I've been using Comet for about a year now, I administer it for my clients so I'm in it weekly to check on backups and perform updates. Comet backup stands apart in it's ability to offer the end user a simple and effective backup/restore solution with very little complexity. From an administrators point of view, the installation was simple and well packaged. Updates are well documented and they offer two tracks to use. Customer support was quick and effective when I needed to ask simple questions regarding restoring to VMWare. I would have liked to see an option to restore backups from a central panel to a custom location. Currently you need to isntall the backup client on a machine and login with an account that has access to the backups in order to restore them. We had the goal of hosting a backup solution in a central location and reducing the amount of equipment we needed to deploy at a clients site, Comet fixed that for us. The tool itself is super helpful and runs reliably and quickly. The upload and download are quick and the few times I've needed to do a restoration operation, it has worked great! Installation of the self-hosted option is pretty rough if you're unfamiliar, but the included documentation helped get it all done the right way. That said, if there are issues, you're sort of on your own. I have only had a few problems since coming on board, but the few things I have had to deal with have been a little like pulling teeth to get solid support from the team (between different time zones and long ticket response times). The flat rate pricing and ability to provide your own object storage and backup server make it very appealing from a cost standpoint. It's also super easy to set up and manage. The interface is a little bit outdated, graphically, but that's not really a big deal. Updates for the self-hosted version of the server could be slightly easier to deploy or automated. Comer Backup is a platform tha is based on the backup of information in the cloud increasing the security and information of the company, is a platform easy to handle, contains a support that is active 24/7, is a tool compatible with various operating systems such as, Windows, Linux and macOS automation funtions simplify the work of data storage and clients in the cloud reducing the work to users so that they can focus on other functions. What do you dislike about Comet Backup? the only weak point that Comet Backup has is the generation of repots to the clients about the backups that ir carries, however in the internal management it provides more information about the backups expanding the information provided by this platform, otherwise it does not present any other weak point. Comet Backup offers a versatile dashboard interface that portrays visibility on various storage buckets, users, devices and boosters. It periodically checks the status of our devices and provides real-time notifications in case the device becomes outdated or offline. We can conveniently perform deduplicate backups from multiple accounts which can be mapped to a specific storage vault. We can also prevent the visibility of protected items once we categorize them under Private view. What do you dislike about Comet Backup? One drawback encountered is as we upgrade our Comet version, we can't revert back as downgrade compatibility isn't present at the moment. Hence, we need to evaluate the versions properly and determine before each version upgrade. It would be nice to have a downgrade functionality as our business use cases change from time to time. Version control is very useful for our organization while working with the Comet Backup platform. It ensures that all shared resources adhere to the same version and provide alerts if there's a version mismatch. Using its customer web portal, we can comfortably take a backup from remote locations, modify its protected item settings, mention the storage vault path & analyze the job history. Another feature that is of great help is its Backup Algorithm which efficiently splits data, performs compression & encryption and then uploads it. While working with incremental loads, it actively checks whether the data chunks are already present in the server or not for preventing re-uploads and disk space wastage. The process is the same as upgrading instead of using an old installer. However, there have been a couple of changes in Comet's history whereby making a downgrade was difficult, i.e., when a subsystem has been upgraded and decoupled from the install, such as a database schema update.
