  ### 2. Cognition is simultaneously powerful and easy to use and navigate, it's helped our team tremendously

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael D. | Systems Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Cognition Compass MED?**

Cognition has made organizing our documents incredibly easy and makes for a simple to navigate repository for our team. I've been very happy with the features implemented, it's easy to link and trace documents across a project and there hasn't been any trouble sending documents to the team for viewing/approval. The team is very helpful and responsive, they've been more than willing to help me figure out the software in any place that wasn't immediately intuitive. Transferring documents over into Cognition was a breeze and we've been happy with our continued use as we develop our product!

**What do you dislike about Cognition Compass MED?**

I would look forward to a desktop app integration, if only to make offline file storage easier

**What problems is Cognition Compass MED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The FDA requires certain documentation to be maintained for medical device approval, Cognition is making it easy for us to store and maintain that documentation for future approval.

  ### 3. Compass used to submit technical documentation of a medical device to US FDA

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antonio D. | R&D Developer Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Cognition Compass MED?**

I met Compass when I needed to submit the technical documentation of a medical device to the US FDA and it was a success: this was possible thanks to both the structure of the software and the excellent technical support that supported me throughout the learning phase of the platform.
Coming to the structure of the platform, Compass effectively and solidly addresses the three large key areas related to the development of a device, namely the definition of requirements, the risk analysis and the verification and validation phase of the requirements.
I find that the use of the platform is made clear by the structure that has been developed with the needs of developing a medical device in mind and this makes it easy to use.
A feature that I particularly like about Compass is the traceability matrix that is automatically generated between all the design requirements: User needs, Design input and Design output. In the same traceability matrix, next to each requirement, the relative verification or validation test is linked and this makes the whole picture of the project very clear and easy to explore.
Furthermore, Compass is also very well suited to customizations and the technical support has always satisfied our needs.

**What do you dislike about Cognition Compass MED?**

I haven't found any negative aspects of Compass so far.

**What problems is Cognition Compass MED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compass solved the problem for me of creating a complete picture of all the project requirements, performing the analysis of all the possible risks, creating the verification and validation protocols and presenting all this information in a clear and concise way through the traceability matrix.

  ### 4. A refreshing Design Controls management tool.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Terence C. | Lead Engineer, Systems, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2024

**What do you like best about Cognition Compass MED?**

My favorite thing about Compass Med is the ability to link critical Design Control attributes to requirements. With Compass Med, it's easy for me to Create a product feature, create requirements, create test cases, and show those relationships to other engineers.

**What do you dislike about Cognition Compass MED?**

One thing I dislike about Compass Med is the platform's connectivity to other applications. Increasing the tool's capability to use other engineering-related tools will improve Compass Med.

**What problems is Cognition Compass MED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compass Med will help Think Surgical by allowing engineers to automate the process of mapping from product concepts to requirements to tests and design. Compass Med will allow THINK to accelerate its Verification and Validation cycles, accelerating our market time.

  ### 5. Cockpit review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard P. | Senior Engineering Project Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Cognition Compass MED?**

Considering we came from using spreadsheets to using Cockpit, the capabilities are very helpful. Auto scoring Risks and identifying BRA for residual risks is extremely helpful considering we have been doing this manually for years. I also like the links of risk into the design files. Previously we had to do this manually, but with Cockpit the system makes this easier for us.

**What do you dislike about Cognition Compass MED?**

Teaching people how to remove items that are consumed in multiple documents has been challenging. Overall, some older employees struggle with the user interface.

**What problems is Cognition Compass MED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Moving from spreadsheets to database and the resultant organization changes. We now have the opportunity to go from document ownership to data ownership that spans accross multiple products.

  ### 6. Great flexible requirements management tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Cognition Compass MED?**

Great degree of flexibility and customization - Compass has a lot under the hood. It provides a great basic setup if you want to keep it simple, but it can grow with your organization and give you many options for making the tool into what you want it to do.

Excellent technical support - Any time there's a problem the technical support team responds quickly and directly to help me with ay issues I encounter.

Maturity - Cognition has been refining their requirements tool for many years and has come up with a tool that simply provides everything needed for good traceability.

Wholistic - Compass is more than a requirements tool, it has the ability to document and trace tests, defects, and a particularly comprehensive risk implementation. It not only traces risks, but has the ability to uniquely trace and reuse hazards, harms, hazardous situations, control measures, etc.

**What do you dislike about Cognition Compass MED?**

The flip side to customization is that it can require a bit of a learning curve to administration and setup. There is plenty of supporting documentation, and the staff is very willing to help but it can be a challenge.

They have made, and continue to make, great improvements in the tool usability some tasks are not intuitive for users to perform.

**What problems is Cognition Compass MED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Compass allows me to establish full end-to-end traceability of requirements, tests, and risks. The structure allows me to easily reuse requirements and information between projects, saving lots of project time from reinventing the wheel. The change history function has been incredibly useful for generating a log of revisions as well as tracking down changest when users have questions during reviews. I've seen risk management in several other requiremetns tools and I don't think any others come close to the level of detail and completeness that Cognition has put into their tool. This has been an excellent tool for requirement management that has enhanced our design controls.

  ### 7. Compass Med is a well thought-out SW product

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bijan E. | Principal, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2024

**What do you like best about Cognition Compass MED?**

Flexibility and convenience. You can customize the SW to your liking, or just use the built-in functionality to meet most of your needs.

**What do you dislike about Cognition Compass MED?**

The navigation panel was not very intuitive.

**What problems is Cognition Compass MED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I tested Compass Med in the capacity of medical device risk management. I found Compass Med to be well-aligned with ISO 14971 with many nice out-of-the-box features, which allows a user to start with a very good basis. If the user wants to enhance the built-in templates, and forms, it is easy to do so.

  ### 8. Cognition Cockpit

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Cognition Compass MED?**

I am relatively new to Cockpit, having only joined the team this year, but the main thing a like about the software is the re use of data and the amount of data you get for 'free' when creating content within the software. It saves having to duplicate information and work. The linking of data and realtionships between one template to the next is also hugely beneficial and evertyhing is traceable which is nice. I think our user base needs to have a greater appreciation of these benefits and the advantages the software can bring as opposed to the old way of workingwith Excel files.

The support we recieve from Cognition is always timely and they will endeavour to help and assist to resolve any issues we are experiencing

**What do you dislike about Cognition Compass MED?**

The user interface of Cockpit can be difficult to get used to. It is not very user friendly in my opinion. There is loads of data and information avaialble but it can be difficult to navigate to or to understand where to looks for it.

Also there are many ways of executing the same function, which can also lead to confusion and frustration. Some of these methods behave slightly different to others.

Recently from working with project teams, they are very frustrated when it comes to removing data and trying to break relationships between templates so it can be removed. Sometimes it works ok but depending on what is to be removed it can prove difficult. In order to remove data in certain scenarios the user needs to have a very good understanding of the sytem to know where the data is rooted in order to remove or delete it at source. Some of this is down to configuration possibly and we are currently working to resolve these issues.

**What problems is Cognition Compass MED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cockpit is allowing Cook to have one authoring tool for all Design and Risk related requirements. It allows us to build a database of information for Design and Risk documnetation and allows us to reuse this data, save on duplication and ultimately make the authoring of documnets more efficient for the engineer. We are still early days with the use of the tool in Cook, but as more projects are on boarded, the befits of the software will be realised greatly.

  ### 9. Cognition user for 7 years

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Cognition Compass MED?**

I have used Cognition software for the last seven years. The user interface is a lot easier to use than DOORs, and it's great that you can create the documents you need while embedding the uniquely identifiable parts required. The software is very customisable, meaning you can develop a solution no matter your process. The UK and US customer support is super. They are always willing to help and recommend how to make updates to improve processes or ease of use.

**What do you dislike about Cognition Compass MED?**

The biggest difficulty we have had the last few years is managing multiple projects at once using the same design stack. I just wish there was the ability to have revision control at the uniquely identifiable level (requirement, Test, Risk Item) so that you can have multiple developments happening at once.

**What problems is Cognition Compass MED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cognition provide us with our comapny ALM system.

  ### 10. great support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Cognition Compass MED?**

The Cognition team brings expert knowledge both on configuring their product but also on the design and risk processes for medical devices.

**What do you dislike about Cognition Compass MED?**

It has been disruptive to our spreadsheet world. There is a lot to think about in transforming away from document-centric design files.

**What problems is Cognition Compass MED solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cognition has helped us in connecting data across documents e.g., from requirements traces into risk analysis, and in keeping this content consistent across many deliverables. As requirements and assessments change, it was a pain to find all the instances of this data. Cignition's tools have made this much easier.
