## Coderbyte Reviews
  ### 1. Candidate testing and selection made easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom P. | Head of IT Operations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 19, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The ability to take off-the-shelf coding exercises and fit them into our technical assessment was easy and straight forward.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

some skill sets were limited (more focus on terraform and ansible required)

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It made our technical assessment stage of interviews very clear cut and straight forward

  ### 2. Tool cost me more time than it saved me.

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacob D. | Software Technical Lead and Engineering Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

There's a decent amount of curated code test challenges.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It's not obvious what the test cases are for the code tests so I feel like candidates aren't be treated in a fair way where they understand all cases they're being evaluated on. However mostly I signed up for this to do coding projects and there's no library of coding projects to hand out. This is effectively a CMS for coding projects rather than a library of vetted material. The vetting of material is what costs me an enormous amout of time and laying out webpages and emails is something I can do in my sleep. I also found the interface somewhat clunky and buggy for something fairly new. My main criteria for a tool like this is: does it save me time. It failed to do that.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is supposed to solve the problem of screening and evaluating coding skills.

  ### 3. Great product to speed up technical assessment.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alicia P. | Senior Talent Acquisition Partner - Engineering & product , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

I like how easy is to send to the candidate and receive the outcomes. Super simple, easy to generate new projects, nice visuals. Also good experience for the candidate. Also the outcomes they come in in a very nice way to understand if the person is good or not.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Nothing so far honestly. It really makes my life easier. Everything works very well, there is nothing I do not like at all, the product is very well done.
I need to use it more maybe to see areas of improvement.

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

It is a very good tool to run a prescreening, and make sure the candidate has the basic skills before moving them to the tech team.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Assessing technicals skills faster. It allows moving faster in the process, fewer emails back & forth, fewer questions. Easy to evaluate candidates. It is great coz I make sure candidates are good technical before the tech team puts time into interviewing.

  ### 4. Good and Sophisticated Platform to Evaluate Candidates

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ujjwal A. | Lead Ml Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Candidates Screening With Proctoring with Anti cheating and plagiarism detector.
Reports post-screening is an excellent way to get everything in place and a sharable format.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I can't make notes of candidates traits in between interview session which led me to forget some of the things happened during the interview.
TestCases in the Coding is not too hard on time complexity or Space Complexity.

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

Please go for it. This is the best-sophisticated platform you can get at this pricing.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The major problem is to align the hiring process end to end. So using Coderbyte helps us solve these issues.
1. Descriptive Report after the screening Round is beneficial to assess Candidates on several different parameters.
2. Live interview sessions help us to do pair programming and get to know candidates on a personal level even more.
3. Customised challenges is a great help to set your firm level expectation and assess candidates on key points your firm is looking for.

**Official Response from Nis Frome:**

> Thanks, Ujjwal.

You've given us a great idea about taking notes during interviews, and our product team is currently working on making this possible.

As for code complexity, we're happy to hear that you find this capability so informative. Because BigO is somewhat of a theoretical property of a function, we don't think it's fair or practical to automatically score based on it. However, we're always looking into smarter scoring techniques.

  ### 5. Very good!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Renan P. | HR Business Partner, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Simple and assertive way of evaluating candidates.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

The fact of not being able to create our own tests.

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

It is very worthwhile to hire the platform. Solved my problems testing tech talent.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speed in hiring talent.

  ### 6. Ease of use and UX with coderbyte

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rahul M. | Vice President Of Engineering - DevOps Practice Head, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Ease of use.
Video of candidate solving the problems

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

There is a lag somehow when we watch some of the videos of coding challenge

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

the best part is i get to know the candidates thinking while solving a coding challenge even if the answer/output isw rong

  ### 7. Amazing Experience with SQL based interview

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

User-friendly and playback interviews with notes

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

UI could be improved there are minor glitches

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They solve setting up customized interviews for coding languages like SQL which is not so common when it comes to coding interviews, this helps us to find the best candidate with live coding for SQL

  ### 8. Highly recommended for coder screening and assessments

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris W. | Technical Director

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

We use Coderbyte for all technical candidate screening and assessment. We've tried and worked with several alternatives, but Coderbyte combines some key features that we've not found together in other products:
* Assessments can combine code tests, open questions, multiple-choice, etc.
* Any combination of technologies, at various levels of difficulty, can be included in an assessment
* We can try out any test before including it in an assessment - this is super-helpful
* Replay candidate actions and test results
* Candidates have the means to write code, provide test data and run predefined tests without any installation or time-consuming setup

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

We have had a couple of projects with slightly 'exotic' technologies not represented in existing tests, Scala being an example. On balance, though, I prefer the quality of assessments, and in this instance, we were able to make up with some Java code assessments and more focus on algorithms, etc.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We don't have one-size-fits-all coder assessments; instead, we use assessments created and tailored for specific roles, experience levels, etc. Coderbyte has significantly increased the effectiveness of assessments, with a massive improvement in the efficiency of creating and setting them.

  ### 9. Nice Tool to save time on technical screening

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Pharmaceuticals | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

I would typically spend a lot of time just checking the basic programming skills of any developer before moving to the next round of interviews. It is costly as any candidate you ask. If they know the program, they would answer a YES by default, but only 1 out of 10 can fluently write the basic syntax.

What I like
- The recording of how the coder proceeds
- How many times did the coder leave the screen

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Notification of any candidate clears or gets more than a certain % directly to my chat app. In the case of Medly, we use Slack.
OR
custom notification that I can configure myself, so I don't have to log into the app to check what is happening.

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

use it for technical screening for basic skills. as they are important to build on top of.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I now don't have to spend any time screening for basic coding skills.
I am now able to focus that time on getting the best of the best candidates.
In the past, due to time constraints, we would not have been able to check for more than, say, a couple of candidates. Now I can do screening for 10's to 100's of them.

**Official Response from Nis Frome:**

> Thank you for the helpful review and feedback. We have found that many of our customers love our screen recording integration with SessionRewind.com!

As for custom notifications, this is possible with our Zapier integration: https://help.coderbyte.com/knowledge/how-do-i-configure-a-slack-integration

Enjoy!

  ### 10. Not perfect but very useful

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

- the ability to send compensation to candidates easily

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

- the workflow for editing and setting up a Project was a bit unclear
- for a Project with an open-ended time frame/no limit, it seems like there' s no way for the candidate to get back to the form they opened from the invite email, so none of them yet have used the actual, intended submission flow — they just email us that they're done with a link to the repo. I think if they close the tab they can't be back to that page w/ the submission process? As a result, we have a bunch of candidates listed as "In Progress" who have actually completed the project, but there's no way for me to manually change their status. I'd also like to manually remove candidates like my teammates, who we added so they could help review they whole UX that a candidate experiences.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're making sure candidates can work competently in core technical areas for which we're hiring, and getting some useful extra info to help plan what to ask/discuss in their interviews.

  ### 11. Great product, support and people!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It's automated, so very little need for me to do anything to be able to get better-qualified candidates into our pipeline.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

1) I have no official way to benchmark my internal people so that I can ensure I hire similarly skilled people or hire for my weaknesses
2) I cannot tweak exercises to have different tests, scores or weights. C# is more important to my company, I'd love to give that a 70% weighting towards the score
3) A candidate can change their email when I send a link, this causes problems with our ATS system when they use an email we don't have on file
4) I don't know what an "average" score is for the industry
5) I can't mark update people with information gained later in the process. It would be valuable to learn that people who score on average 63%-67% fail a later stage and so we should raise our bar for passing slightly
6) Some tests are too stringent, a certain React test will score 0/10 if the candidate prepopulates data in the wrong place. The rest of their code may be functional, but one mistake causes them to get a very bad score. Ideally, we should be able to add/configure/weight test cases for what we find to be valuable.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We hire better with CoderByte.

**Official Response from Nis Frome:**

> We're happy that you're getting so much value from Coderbyte and appreciate your feedback.

1. That's a very interesting point. We recommend inviting your own engineers to Coderbyte as candidates to benchmark the difficulty of your assessments.

2. We're working on improving weighting and customization for scoring. We appreciate your patience.

3. If you use private instead of public invite links, candidates will not be able to change their email address. https://help.coderbyte.com/knowledge/how-do-you-invite-candidates-to-an-assessment

If you use our Zapier integration, it will automatically send private invite links. https://help.coderbyte.com/knowledge/coderbyte-api-access

4. You can learn more about average scores here: https://help.coderbyte.com/knowledge/benchmarking-statistics-graph

5. This is a very interesting idea and we're talking to our product team about it.

6. Unfortunately certain test cases can cascade so that if a candidate gets something critical wrong, all subsequent test cases will fail. We're always looking for ways to improve scoring though.

  ### 12. A good system for candidate management with many important features

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The ability to replay the candidate's screen, thus to witness their thought process and copy-pasting.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

The UI took some time getting used to (some URLs look like they will open a new tab, yet instead, they redirect the current page)

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy monitoring of all the candidates and their progress. Q&A management.

  ### 13. Easy to use for non tech recruiters

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

If you are a non technical recruiter hiring for a tech role coderbyte is easy to setup and use

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

There's no grading for recruiters for coding inputs for technical interviews

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy to deploy assessments and interviews. Kept my hiring costs low

  ### 14. Best software Easy to use Meets all expectations

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Umaima S. | Data Scientist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

1. Coderbyte is having a very good UI to create and manage the tests
2. The assessment of students is so easy that we can easily segregate and sort the students.
3. Rating of the coding round questions and providing the complexity of the solutions is really appreciable feature.
4. Identifying the copiers is very easy as we are getting information about each and every movement of the student.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

1. Need to have bulk import functionality in the custom questions tests option.
2. Sometimes found no information about the student's movements
3. The ultimate solutions for coding round questions need to be shared with the recruiter. this will help the recruiter to cross verify the coding round solution of students.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used Coderbyte for hiring the python developers. Coderbyte helped us to create custom assessments, auto-calculated the student ratings, marked the coding round questions, and provided the details about code quality from solutions. It also helped us to identify the copying, plagiarism, cheating candidates.

  ### 15. Affordable code assessment platform for screening, interviews, and take-home projects

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael B. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The fact that Coderbyte is an all-in-one solution with code screening, interviews, and projects for just $199/month is an unbelievable deal. Not only that, but the platform has some killer features that can’t be found elsewhere, like candidate compensation, Google search within the code editor, and subscription plans with unlimited candidates.

As an early-stage venture-backed business, it’s great to be able to avoid having to pay up for bloated enterprise software alternatives.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It would be great if Coderbyte had SSO and an open API, but I do appreciate how simple they’ve kept the product despite all the other functionality.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We’re growing quickly and need to be able to interview technical candidates of all levels throughout the recruiting lifecycle. Coderbyte has enabled us to become more efficient and effective at finding top talent without wasting time on unqualified candidates.

  ### 16. Easy to understand for employers and applicants, both

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Garima K. | Talent Acquisition Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It is very convenient to create a new assessment or edit a previous one.
Easily accessed by the candidate/employee whoever is taking the assessment.
The insights of the performance are reliable and dependable.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Sometimes, due to the candidate's failure to meet the criteria for opening up the assessment, the employer has to provide other options or alternate email addresses.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For screening new employees, checking if they are a good fit to be a part of our team at Primathon. Depending upon the results from Coderbyte, we have hired new people.

  ### 17. Worst experience ever

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hershey R. | Talent Acquisition, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

I think the only good thing here is that it's cheaper compare to other assessment tools.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

There are so many things to mention, and I would not recommend this tool to anyone!

1. It is not recognized as a valid assessment tool in most ATS including Smartrecruiter
2.There is a limit on the number of applicants you can invite per assessment, I think 50 applicants is a low number if you are hiring for Developers
3. If you ever plan on having an add- ons feature, please be prepared for unlimited email, chat, follow up- only to remind the team that the upgrade is still not working.
4. we cancel our subscription last July 23 and we are expecting that the service will be up until the next billing cycle, BUT NO. The cancellation of your subscription will be immediate.

We have tried a lot of software assessment tools and by far this is the most dissapointing.
If you can adjust your budget for 50-100 USD, better to spend it on Hackerank or test Gorrila,

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

Please use other assessment tools. This is not worth it.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nothing.

**Official Response from Nis Frome:**

> Thank you for your detailed review and feedback.

1. Per our website, we integrate with ATS platforms via Zapier (https://zapier.com/apps/coderbyte/integrations). That includes top tools like Workable and Greenhouse.

2. Yes, there is a limit to ensure that our servers don't crash. 99% of our customers never come close to the limit, but 1% who are running professional bootcamps and certification programs otherwise would invite 10,000+ candidates simultaneously which no platform in the market would allow. You successfully assessed 1,000+ candidates over four months.

3. We apologize for the bug and fixed it within 48 hours.

4. That's our bad, and generally doesn't happen. If you choose to return to Coderbyte, your first month will be free.

  ### 18. Coderbyte is an amazing platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dalli Gangadhar R. | Technical Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The library is good,
choice of languages is good,
platform is easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I donot see any downsides as such. Will definitely post if i find any with future use.

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

Its a good platform. Use it.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hiring from colleges where we had to screen a large number of candidates at a given time.

  ### 19. Human Resources Manager

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 25, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

I liked the usability of the website. It was a plus for me that I could customize the email templates. The candidate compensation feature is also very convenient.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I would like to see a way to blur/add backgrounds on the interview tool to enable more privacy.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's very beneficial to have a robust platform for candidates to view and complete tasks in the screening process.

  ### 20. Python Junior Developer

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It is simple to create tests, they have a nice variety to choose from

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I had to ask about some features that I didn't realize they were there, but they were

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to evaluate the condition of the selected hires in the language that was evaluated

  ### 21. Great tool for vetting developers candidates

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Code challenges database is extensive and good enough for our usage. Their online IDE runs smoothly in any coding language and compiles as expected, as well as alerts when the developer pastes code.
The overall status of each candidate is also helpful.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Tests inputs on the code database are usually minimal. Video call from the app didn't work for us (we used Zoom and developer shared screen for live coding). Could have better pricing for smaller companies, the unlimited per month seems good for more prominent companies, but not so good for 1-10 people companies.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Coderbyte helps well in the hiring process, is designed for developers, and allowed our company to filter candidates quickly.

  ### 22. Highly recommended

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Medical Devices | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

We've used Coderbyte to set up multiple challenges for multiple types of roles and technical skills (ML, SW Eng, QA Testing, DevOps) and can't recommend it enough. When we've had issues and/or questions come up we've reached out and have received guidance immediately. Candidates have had no problems navigating the process and it effectively has helped us screen candidates in/out for such technical roles. We can invite as many candidates as we need to per assessment which has been another plus. Would highly recommend.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It requires hiring managers to create assessments and be very thoughtful when doing this, not too easy or too hard. We've used it to establish a baseline and make sure the fundamentals are there to move forward in the interview process.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Confidence in the candidates that move forward in the interviewing process. It's saved us hours of work. Instead of interviewing 6 candidates to get to a hire, we interview 3 to get to hire and skip one technical interview. For us the benefits are concrete and measurable.

  ### 23. Great Tool To Make Hiring Effective and Simple

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanbir S. | Data ScienceMentor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

• A strong question bank
• Clean and easy to use interface for both interviewers and interviewees.
• Plagiarism detection and videos of screening tests.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

• The test cases for some questions are too easy.
• Would appreciate native support for colab or jupyter notebooks (useful for data science hiring)

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

• Simplifies the testing process.
• Helps prevent cheating.
• Helps on-board new recruiting mangers.

**Official Response from Nis Frome:**

> Amanbir, yes! We're launching Jupyter notebooks by the end of the year. Can't wait for you to check it out :)

  ### 24. Excellent Candidate Interview Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

One of the only platforms that actually has support for React and other standard languages like Python. It was always reliable and proved to be an easy platform to collaborate on a prompt with candidates.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

There was one bug where the console (javascript) was not capturing a simple console.log(), however after reaching out to their support they promptly responded and implemented a quick fix.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were solving the problem of wanting to have a full, live coding interview session with remote candidates, but instead of whiteboarding, we wanted to actually see the code run end to end.

  ### 25. If you have a small team and/or a small budget, Coderbyte is the best option in the market.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas C. | Tech Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The cost, since it's the best in the market considering all the resources included in their package.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Unfortunately, the API integration has to be bought separately, and the question pool is not so great, primarily because of duplicates.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're using it for our hiring process, and it helped us make it quicker than before and use it as a candidate database since we have detailed reports of their performance.

  ### 26. Helpful for recruitment process. UX can be improved.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Lots of examples of different tests.
Simple to send home assignment to candidates.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Was not clear how to manage live test, where I can see the live coding of the candidate and edit what he sees.
Was not clear how to add custom questions to a test.

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

I don't know if any other tool that makes it easier. But sure you're tool can get much better to use more of what it can give.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It make it easier for me to send home assignment to candidates to filter the best ones for a face to face interview.

  ### 27. Great tool for interviews

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

the ease of use of the system and the fact that the challenge questions are good.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I dislike the fact that I can't see the progress of an assessment until the whole thing is done. I would love to see how a person did on an individual assignment before they wrapped it up completely

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

Go for it! It's one of the better tools.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we use it as a tool for interviews and some internal training. It's been nice to weed out candidates before we get them on the phone or at least see if their coding skill matches up with their salary expectations.

  ### 28. Seemless, but restricted.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohamed A. | Software Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Making multiple templates, and including the solving time as part of the score.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Not able to download results in a csv format

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Interviewing people without allocating an interviewer.

  ### 29. Decent screening platform for talent

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

I like the fact that you can create your own questions and that live coding interview is included with an built in IDE

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I wish coderbyte would allow you to create custom challenges that can be added to a screening, if it already does then I haven't figured out how to do it. Also I wish there was a way to automatically score the non-multiple-choice questions.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to as the first screening for potential candidates, the screening we have created have some basic technical questions that anyone should be familiar with to be able to perform in their daily work

  ### 30. That's an excellent first filter!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It's simple to use pre-built tests and assure applicants know about the tools we're using.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Some tests are tricky to use and could be more straightforward. They add unnecessary and strange complexity (such as, in SQL, requiring to return a column with spaces in its name - e.g. "Average Age").

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For mid-level positions it's excellent. We could filter more than 60% of applicants, let us to focus on more skilled people, saving us a valuable time. Interviews became shorter and we could use this time to work in business cases with our applicants, bringing true quality for the hiring process.

  ### 31. A really useful tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vinícius A. | Tech Recruiter, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

CoderByte is very easy to handle and a complete tool. It offers everything to make the hiring process more accurate.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I dislike the lack of Android emulation (e.g React Native). But I'm not sure if this is a CoderByte issue or a browser limitation.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our career pathways. We make some challenges for our employees to get some points depending on their performance.

  ### 32. Coderbyte Unity Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

One of the few platforms available where I was able to automatically assess Unity capabilities. Also monthly subscription with no cancellation fees was very useful!

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Not a lot. Perhaps it would have been useful to have to pre-populated full tests for platforms such as Unity. As no one else in the team has Unity experience, we didn't need to pick and choose parts of an assessmnent.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were tyring to assess Unity capabilities for prospective candidates. They would be the first Unity developer in our team, so we weren't able to look at / assess code ourselves - that platform was really useful for this!

  ### 33. Great for scanning - but pick your tests wisely

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simon S. | Digital Products, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The actual environment for the developers that allows for a very controlled review. Frankly I loved Session Replay to understand what has truly happened while the developer was conducting the test. The selection of tests is pretty extensive and the functionality covers a lot of topics. Will certainly use it again when looking for additional developers.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Dislike is maybe a strong word. I guess it's more the question what did and did not work for use. The actual scores were not very helpful. Something a minor issue kept an otherwise good solution from working. The ones that just looked up the solution and then typed the result in the editor scored often better than the ones that actually tried to solve the problem. Thus often the ones that had a good, but not the highest score were the actual good devs.
It's hard to pick good tests. Which has nothing to do with CoderByte by the way. It's just hard to find something that is a) easy enough to be done in a reasonable time, b) hard enough to see whether the dev is good and c) hard to find when searching for it in Google. CoderByte detects copying and invites people to use the inline-search. But there is just no way of knowing whether the developer just has another tab open and looks things up (and then copies the code).
To really get most of CoderByte you really need to spend a decent amout of time reviewing the results. Use Session Replay to check what they did (there you always see, whether they just copied the solution or not), how did they tackle the problem, what did they try out.
For us it was really helpful, but only because we did spend a lot of time on the results.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Have a possibility to do a quick standardized screening of applicants. We had many, many applications and it's sometimes hard to test the technical competence. Thus before going into a first interview we used CoderByte to get an assessment - also showing whether applicants were willing to do this effort.

  ### 34. Good enough with some little points to improve

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kevin R. | IT Talent Acquisition, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The facility to get scores from developers

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Some mistakes and the lack of feedback when a candidate fill out the challenge

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

I recommend every organizations to use this resource to evaluate their potential candidates in the development area.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The facility to get the scores and evaluate the candidates, the problem is that sometimes the result is not 100% correct.

  ### 35. Overall great tool for hiring technical talent

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason P. | Director of Business Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

I liked that there were many different coding challenges that assesses different technical skills. I could go through the their extensive set of coding challenges and customize the assessment easily for our needs.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I found the UI of the entire website to be a bit confusing. Since I couldn't 'filter' different coding challenges based on their tags, which could've simplified selecting coding challenges, I had to go through each test manually. There were a few coding challenges where the test results were too polarizing (10 or 0). One thing that could've been helpful was a way to re-order or order coding challenges after selecting them (before and after the assessment was active)

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

If you are looking for a cost effective way to streamline your hiring process, Coderbyte is definitely the right way to go.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a better way to filter our candidate pool as many of the applicants would claim that they have experience and knowledge required for the position. We were able to streamline the hiring process by filtering out unqualified candidates and contact qualified candidates without wasting my time or the team's time.

  ### 36. Easy tool for interviews

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rishabh N. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The left text pane idea is the best. You can update the questions in real-time.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

There is difficulty in accessing it on the low-resolution machine. But yes, it is not an issue.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using this to hire new talents, testing their programming skills. And coding in real-time gives an idea of how the candidate is thinking.

  ### 37. Drastically Improved Our Hiring Process

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joey P. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Coderbyte really helped us screen candidates, get an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, and drastically improved our hiring process. This was definitely our most meaningful programmer hiring process yet!

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I wish there were more options for customizing their pre-made coding challenges. They have some great tests but being able to modify their existing ones would be a huge plus.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Coderbyte is improving our hiring process and giving us a more thorough understanding of our potential candidates' capabilities.

  ### 38. Overall works well for interview, especially for SQL questions

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Easy to use, and I like that they capture the video of the user taking the problem. The report was easy to read. The assessment worked well for Data Analysts with SQL questions.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It has problems catching cheaters and doesn't seem to have questions that cannot easily find answers online. I have a candidate that passed the test, and after failing the in-office interview, admits that he copied the answer to get past the screener question. We want a tool where we can give a bunch of candidates somewhat challenging questions they can't easily cheat on. It would be great to get questions that only Coderbyte has, and it was difficult to find such questions on the sample questions. For SQL question which generally you cannot find the answer online word for word, it is very effective.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Screen applicants and save time from actual interviews. We get many applicants and it is too time consuming to interview all of them. We need a good way to disqualify applicants that do not meet the proper level of expertise.

  ### 39. Very good, I really like to review coding tests on this platform.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alin-Florin M. | Backend Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Really nice UI and it's very easy to review coding assessments.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Would be good to have more insights about the test itself when you review it.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's easy to review coding assesments for new candidates.

  ### 40. Coderbyte has reduced our turn-around time when finding, evaluating, and hiring new talent.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David P. | Delivery Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The bast amount of technologies that it can support

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

It initially requires a good investment of time

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping us be highly agile when there are demand peaks. It also helps have a standardized procedure when selecting new talent. Way fewer interviews are required since candidates are being pre-filtered using Coderbyte.

  ### 41. Just the functionality I need at a very competitive price

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

All the functionality we need at a very competitive price.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

No complaints, we didn't encounter any bugs in our usage.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Over the years, I've found that giving candidates a short and simple code screening challenge saves interview time and sometimes helps us identify very talented junior candidates that may have otherwise been filtered out at the resume stage.

I've tried using multiple code screening products over the years, and Coderbyte is by far the best one I've seen so far. Others are often some combination of bloated, way too expensive for small startups, or hard to start with (one market leader once required that I book two different calls with their reps before getting started). Coderbyte, on the other hand, was self serve, I was able to test it out immediately, is very easy to use, and has all the functionality that we need.

  ### 42. Coderbyte saves time - It’s good value

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kiran S. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

It was simple to use and offered some useful information to assess candidates, like how many times they left the assessment. Out of all the dev assessments i compared, Coderbyte offered the best value since it has simple all in pricing and they even have a per candidate pricing model in case you recruit less frequently it makes sense.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

I wish there were some more tests, particularly the advanced tests. Also for the per candidate pricing it would be good to offer smaller packages.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping us select developers who will advance to the technical interview round

  ### 43. Meets most expectations

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shripal J. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Coderbyte is the perfect plaform for tech recruitment.
It offers a wide variety of pre-built challenges and questions which focus on evaluating the logical skills of candidates.
It also allows to create custom challenges or ask custom questions, be it objective or subjective.
Plagiarism detection is the most useful feature as it helps us identify truly honest candidates.
Support is quick, we faced a few data issue, but they were solved quickly after contacting the support team.
Coderbyte also filters out candidates based upon their score and highlights them in the summary view which helps us focus on the important candidates.
The video recording of candidates' screen gives us a crisp idea of how they are attempting to solve coding challenges, which is quite helpful in judging the candidates

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Pricing, it seems a bit expensive for India.
Would prefer to pay around Rs. 5000 per month, instead of the current Pro pricing ($199/month which approximates to Rs. 15,000)
UI/UX could be improved, I feel it is a little complex for now.
Their pre-built template challenges and question sets could improve by focusing on more mobile technologies like Android, iOS, Flutter

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

Without a doubt, you should go for Coderbyte if you are recruiting for the tech domain. I feel it is the best platform in the market currently.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating technical assessments and evaluating candidates' scores is a lot less time consuming compared to taking technical interviews.
This helps us filter out the candidates easily based upon their assessment score and the time within which they complete the assessment.
After the candidates meet the threshold score, we take technical interviews. So a lot of our time was saved by Coderbyte!

  ### 44. Talent recognition champion

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Inbaraj, M. | Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

User-friendly UI, it's flexibility to customize

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Nothing in specific. However while rating candidate, unsure if the rating is saved instantly or to go for save BTN click.

**Recommendations to others considering Coderbyte:**

A good and user-friendly tool to find the qualified candidates for the job profile easily

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have used coderbyte to filter candidates for job profiles. We have also used them for internal job movements and assessments. It is very easy for referring to the results later as well.

  ### 45. solid technical candidate evaluation tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert C. | Data Science Practice Leader, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

good tests / problems; straightforward and good interface / management console; good support

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

really, the cost is the only downside - despite being competitively priced in the marketplace, the value still may not be there for smaller companies - wish they had a startup / small business plan one notch lower than the lowest.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making sure potential employees can code well. So many say they can, but it's hard to verify.

  ### 46. Easy to use assessment tool, with room for more customization

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Martín Ezequiel G. | Senior Scala Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Easiness to use, to navigate sections, and create assessments. At the same time, people can work on the exercises in a straightforward manner

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Lack of customization (questions, exercises)

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automate and reduce the assessment time of candidates before joining the company

  ### 47. Very simple but does the job

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pedro F. | CIO

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2022

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

simple but good for screening candidates easily

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

could be improved on the c# editor but it's good

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

candidade screening

  ### 48. Very neat way to clear tech assessments for later rounds

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohammed A. | Software engineering manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

The assessments are easy to create with challenges related to the skills we want to test. The candidates skills are tested close to accurately, especially the fact if they are copying are not.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Can increase the number of challenges for some essential skills. Also testing devops for a specific cloud platform can be tested.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are trying to hire good talent easily. Main issue is candidates copying on online assessments.

  ### 49. Interviewing software engineering position candidate

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Coderbyte interview template was super useful when designing SQL-based questions. I like the ability to upload custom tables to create interview questions that are applicable to the company/role.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

The UI to upload SQL tables is not the most intuitive, and I wish there was a feature to delete tables (or more documentation on how to delete if the function is already there)

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Coderbyte provided us with a clean platform to interview all our candidates

  ### 50. Platform worth investment for remote hiring

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Coderbyte?**

Customization is simple and works great in most common use cases.
Straightforward, practical, and no-nonsense.
Codebyte is most cost effective solution that we could find after lot of evaluation.

**What do you dislike about Coderbyte?**

Default Dashboard is fine. However, I would like to see the ability to make a custom dashboard.

**What problems is Coderbyte solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using fresher hiring via online screening. It is pretty simple for employers and candidates as well. Ready questions on almost all coding platforms are great.
