Being a software developer I often have to work with teams and whle working with teams, the biggest problem that I face is a collaborative environment.Everyone is working on their own PC so there is no engagement between team members and due to which the efficiency of the project decreases
But herecomes Codenvy a cloud based IDE which doesnt even require you to install anything extra, all you require is a browser and thats it.
Here are some of the best features of Codenvy in my opinion:
Collaborative Environment: Multiple developers can work on the same project at the same time.
Containerized Workspaces: It utilizes Docker containers to encapsulate the development environments, and thus it enables you to have consistency in the local, staging, and production environments.Being a docker user I find Codenvy to be the best place to implement my knowledge
Supports all programming languages : It supports a range of programming languages and frameworks and provides integration with tools like Git, CI/CD pipelines among others.
Scalability: It can work with teams of all sizes, starting from an individual to large enterprises.I have worked various projects on this along with my team and each one of us is highly satisfied with the work outputs.
Easy to use Interface : The best point of Codenvy is that its beginner friendly , only a few steps and u are ready to start your development journey
Lastly this is cloud based so there is no need to worry about storing data on local storage everything is stored on the cloud and can be accessed from any part of the world Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There aren't a lot things that i dislike about Codenvy but still there are some areas that need some improvements like -
Lagness - While working on some heavy projects i faced some issues like slow execution/compiling of code and even sometimes the page would get "not responding " error.
Lot of things to learn - Since its a cloud based environment so for people who have been working their whole life by storing data on local storage , they have to learn a lot about cloud and therefore their usage.Although this is not a problem but still i had to face while working with a elder age group person.
Pricing -Although its free for upto 3 users but while working on larger projects or more complex use cases may require a paid subscription. The cost can add up, especially when scaling across multiple team members.
This is all about my experience with Codenvy Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- Best thing is, it is easy to use for development
- We can give access to other developers as well
- Deployments can also be done though the Codenvy so it becomes one stop solutions Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- sometimes it is bit slow for the deployment, speed can be boosted a bit.
- We should have more shortcuts of keyboard to search in project and do other things quickly Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Everything in technology is based on cloud nowadays. Since codenvy provides cloud-based deployments, it is the best platform for a developer. Very easy to code and debug. More built-in options makes easy to use.
Good support from codenvy team to make it flawless, if there is any issue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Certain statements or commands are not executed properly sometimes, which might cause delay in the process. And it is not open source.
If the codenvy IDE becomes open source, then many users can use and give reviews. The reviews can be considered and included in the new version releases to make codenvy a best platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I like most about this is a cloud-based platform with great built-in options/functions and is very easy to access. It is very much robust as it supports many programming languages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
So far very good for programming; as it is based on the cloud, we require a good bandwidth internet connection. Sometimes it becomes irritating when gets hanged due to low bandwidth connection. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The best thing is it's provided as PAAS so no need to worry about any installation, just connect to the server and you are good to go. And is the same as any conventional IDE with code completion and other features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not many cons with the IDE as it's in the cloud and making your app available be like little tricky and require lots of integration effort and git integration is also a bit tricky. Overall service can be improved by proper training. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I had been used the Codenvy software for creating many projects for a learning point of view. The Codenvy is totally cloud-based software means you no need to worry about the infrastructure setting. It has supported a large number of programming languages which makes this tool more robust. It also provides 3GB free memory for running and testing the project on the Codenvy premises. Furthermore, with the help of Docker functionality, the developer can easily develop code. The main benefit which I supposed this tool is provided which is very important for any developer that is portability. In case of any issue, your code is automatically saved in the Codenvy hosted environment. It is a fantastic tool for learning different types of programming languages. I need to mention here some areas of improvement required for the software for example user interface should be appealing, and sometimes during development software halt(because of the low internet connectivity issue, the tool should be capable of handling this situation). Simple, Fast and Can easily access the root directory of the machine Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
hang and session expiration happening fastly. Not fit for android development etc. But backend development or for any small projects super best fit. After RedHat bought lot of changes Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It seems to me an essential work tool has very good built-in functions and pre-designed options ... it is compatible with environments such as php java among others which makes it very versatile and useful when undertaking a small or large programming project in the company ... being based on the cloud you can easily work as a team which greatly reduces the load and makes the programming of a project much more efficient Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
the only bad thing is that you need to have a good internet connection and if for some reason the internet goes down the team project can be seriously affected ... otherwise it is a highly recommended software Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I am a heavy user of the Cloud 9 IDE and a big fan of the complete cloud based coding environment. So, I was very excited to give Codenvy a whirl. I must say that I was not disappointed. I'm always wary of products that claim to be developer tools that do not do a good job catering to the developer community. Right off the bat, Codenvy does a great job at that. Their free offering is at par with Cloud 9. They do not give clear specifics on upgrading their services, which I find a bit off putting. The starting 512mb of ram that they give is not adequate for much beyond a bit of prototyping. To really work on a full scale app requires allocation of more resources. I'd rather not have to speak to someone in sales just to upgrade my workspace to a high tier. One thing that I am excited about is how they offer a paid version offsite. Cloud 9 is also based on an OpenSource project and so you can easily run the C9 engine on your own servers, but you lose a lot of the features that they have coded into their product offering....the fact that I can run an Open Source version as well as pay to run the full version in my own environment is a nice feature. Bottom line, I do not feel that this is a mature a platform as C9...but that is a fault that is easily cured with time. But they do have a great product, and certainly with the ability to code and use eclipse plugins, makes this a GREAT choice for an Eclipse shop. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
