CaseText seems to always be upping it's game to compete with the big players in this space. They offer great customer support and I really find the coverage to be improving all the time. It would be great if it offered the secondary or supplemental resources offered by Westlaw or Lexis, but those resources are not essential to most legal research. You can get authority from all state and federal jurisdictions. **What do you dislike about CoCounsel Legal?** You must go to the state, and specify exactly what authorities you want to search from, whether it is case law, or statutory law. **What problems is CoCounsel Legal solving and how is that benefiting you?** I had an adversary proceeding in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case. The issue involved conversion of personal property from an estate in Ohio. Another issue involved the law of issue preclusion in Ohio. I was able to easily access Ohio statutes, and Ohio case law using Casetext. I was also easily able to research the federal procedural law in reference to adversary proceedings on Casetext. I wrote two briefs in support of a motion for summary judgment, and was able to obtain a favorable ruling using Casetext as a legal research tool. ### 13. It is easy to navigate, and using the most simple terms used in the search bar can get you on the right track very quickly. I always get a lot of hits, and really like that at the right hand side of case you are reading you can get other instances where what you are reading has been used in other cases. Very straight forward and easy to use. **What do you dislike about CoCounsel Legal?** After reading a case in the list of hits, when I go back to the "results", it does not take me directly to the next case in the list, it usually takes me to the very beginning again, and I have to scroll around and find the case that I had just visited. The other thing, is that lack of ability to download the cases in MS Word (.docx). You can only download pdf files. **Recommendations to others considering CoCounsel Legal:** At least check out the trial. I found it very useful, and will stay a subscriber here, as long as I can afford it. **What problems is CoCounsel Legal solving and how is that benefiting you?** When I am not finding what I want with WestLaw, I can find it in Casetext. I am not stuck working on any particular portion of the law, we work in numerous issues of the law, so I am not always searching for the same kinds of cases. WestLaw at times, causes you to search much longer than you should really need to. I usually use Casetext and WestLaw together. If the prices get too high using either one, I will have to reconfigure. As a Freelance legal Assistant, I cannot afford a lot, I don't have a law office paying my subscription, it is just me. But for the time being, I am very happy this way. I have used google scholar in the past, before Casetext, and I really did not like to use google scholar all that much. ### 17. Enroll in trial period and use it as much as you like. You will find plenty of video tutorials. Don't forget to signup for their free live training as well. Also, don't be afraid of change. Any paralegal or attorney knows how critical that is. For westlaw and Lexis you can do their proprietary "2016 WL 282882" and pincite accordingly on the basis of asterisk-based "pages". That can be important when it comes to submitting briefing. **Recommendations to others considering CoCounsel Legal:** Many of the alternatives (Lexis, West, Fastcase) will provide essentially the same value (a place to find cases necessary to answer the questions that clients and their various needs present). As I understand it, Casetext provides this value at a more competitive price point. Most of the platforms in this space differentiate their offerings from one another on the basis of "bells and whistles," and in this regard Casetext offers a pretty cool "Artificial Intelligence" feature that can perform a proprietary analysis of a given legal document (such as a brief received from opposing counsel) and identify on that basis more caselaw and authorities that may have been missed and that can shed additional light on what the correct answer to the legal question presented should be. Features like that may be the deciding factor for solo and small firm practitioners who must watch their bottom line like a hawk, and in that regard, will appreciate time-saving features made available by legal research platforms that are on the more affordable side. **What problems is CoCounsel Legal solving and how is that benefiting you?** As far as problems being solved, it would be the same problems as with the other legal research platforms: the need for legal authority and a way to efficiently locate it. As far as benefits go, I would also say that Casetext provides essentially the same benefit (a solution to the problem of locating the correct legal authority for a given situation). I would also say that the AI feature is really cool and I could envision a few situations where it could add a lot of value over traditional legal research methods. ### 37.
