Area 1 Security has been protecting our organization for almost 2 years now. As our security team has grown, Area 1 has been our partner. They assist us in integrations with new tools, as well as keeping us abreast of any new features they come up with. Their pay per phish cost model turns implementation into low risk. We installed it behind our existing spam/phish filter with the understanding it would only catch what the other systems missed. Since there is no long term lock in, it allowed us to test out this new service with very little risk. We negotiated an acceptable maximum yearly cost to the service and have so far found that the overall blocking rate is worth the additional cost of the service. It doesn't catch everything, but we have seen significant improvements over the past 6 months of usage.

Area 1 does a great job and understanding the difference between phishing and BEC use cases and breaking them out and filtering them from user interaction. The granular reporting capabilities of the data via the API are also well done. As with any newer offering and organization there are a number of opportunities to improve that will likely come with time. Improvement of the overall detection capabilities will come with time and data gathered. Improvement of the portal to allow an end to end reporting experience without need for API usage also will require some improvement. Still see some phishing emails undetected by Area1. A few of these definitely look like they should have been caught. Some of the trickier phishing emails usually evade detection. For example, phishing emails with a link to a malicious document hosted on a legitimate service such as DropBox aren't often flagged. However, I do see a steady improvement over time. Accept not substitute. Area 1 has done a fantastic job at blocking phishes, malware, and other malicious emails. When something new is found, they adjust quickly and I never even see the messages. Their support team is very responsive and helpful too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Sometimes it is confusing to the untrained user to understand just what kind of threats have been intercepted. I would like more thorough and detailed explanations about HOW a certain email or threat was developed and where it originated from.
