The WAF and DDoS protection give solid peace of mind without needing to build custom security infrastructure, and setup is straightforward even for projects with limited DevOps resources. Performance improvements from caching and edge network distribution have been noticeable across different project sizes, from small side projects to larger production systems. On the backend it can be tricky to setup and you need to know what you are doing and understand how it works, how to add allowed email domains, tunnelling, split tunnels. Once you have learned how to do it all correclty, they make an update to the admin interface and move everything around so now you have to hunt for the tunneling, split tunnels, allowed email domains, so learned knowledge and experience takes a hit until you can find where everything is again. We needed a reliable way to stop DDoS attacks and bad bots from crashing our site or eating up all our server bandwidth. Cloudflare just sits in front of everything and filters out the garbage. The main benefit for me is peace of mind -- our site stays online, pages load fast for users no matter where they are, and our hosting bills have actually gone down because we aren't processing all that malicious traffic ourselves.
