## About Clever
Clever was born of co-founder Dan Carroll’s frustration as a school tech director in Denver. His plans to use technology to save teachers time and personalize learning were stymied by countless CSV files and forgotten passwords. Dan recalls, “I wanted to be an innovator, but I got stuck being a human API.” Software has the potential to empower teachers and create new ways to learn. But one thing must happen first. Everyone must be able to log in—quickly and securely. To solve Dan’s problem, we built a single sign-on portal that now helps 95,000 of U.S. K–12 schools spend more time learning and less time logging in. Dan and all of us at Clever believe that technology is a powerful lever that can make education more equitable and engaging. Since the beginning, we’ve seen that when great teachers are supported by great technology, it leads to incredible learning outcomes. More than 95,000 of U.S. K–12 schools use Clever, including 97 of the largest 100 districts. That’s 60% of US students logging in with Clever monthly! We are proud to work with the education community to bring a lifetime of opportunity within reach of every student.

## Clever Reviews
  ### 1. Clever Makes Student App Access Fast and Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Trishelle B. | Digital Learning Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Clever?**

Clever makes it easy for students to log in to apps and access the programs we use in the library. It’s also simple for them to learn how to use Clever, which helps them get started quickly.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

Sometimes it’s harder to use with younger students, since they have to log in with their email and password if they don’t have badges. At the beginning of the year, it’s fine for me to get everyone logged in, but more recently we’ve had to log in again at different points throughout the year.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Clever keeps everything easily accessible for my library classes and students. With the app photos on display, they can quickly choose the apps or programs they need. It helps class time run more smoothly and keeps everyone on track.

  ### 2. Effortless Student Data Sync, Minor Initial Setup Hiccups

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Clever?**

I like how Clever saves hours of work by syncing student roster from PowerSchool to various education apps, eliminating the manual export and upload process to each app individually. I appreciate the feature of setting it up once and then only needing to check it once per semester, along with the auto addition of new students, which removes the need to manually add new transfer students to each app. Setting up Clever was easy, and this simplicity adds to its value.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

The initial merging process with 3rd party apps can be slow, especially if we already have old accounts from previous years. The onboarding process kind of depends on the responsiveness of the 3rd party app's Clever-sync support team. Some apps I was never able to sync properly due to lack of support from the 3rd party team. It's just hit and miss depending on the 3rd party vendor. When they are responsive, then it's great.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Clever saves me hours by syncing student rosters to education apps automatically, eliminating manual CSV exports. I like that I set it up once per semester and it auto-adds new students, which was tedious to do manually with each app before.

I really like the ease of having all the logins in one place for both students and teachers with Clever. It's also great that students can use QR codes, simplifying their access. **Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael C. | District Instructional Technology Coordinator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Clever?**

Clever really makes it easy to get your students connected in the classroom! It's also a very simple way to make sure that all of your district's instructional technology is accessible and in one place! Their customer service is top notch as well - very responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

The only thing that I did not like about Clever was it's messaging portal, which has since been restricted. It wasn't very teacher friendly and did not allow certain items to be included in a message, such as PDF's and images. We have migrated to ParentSquare, but of all the things that Clever is great for, messaging was not one of them

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

10-15 minutes of each class was devoted to signing students into their educational technology. Clever eliminated this waste of time but allowing students to sign in once to get to all of their curriculum

My students can easily navigate clever, accesding it with. QR code. Once in CLEVER, I can arrange content for them to engage in by placing the apps we use regularly into categories of use. SO EASY!!

I dont like how easily young students get themselves logged out. I wish I could change a setting to whete if they hit a back button mistakenly, they can simply hit the forward button to get back in without having to log back in.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 9. An all-in-one option for users

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chad F. | Instructional Technology Coach, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2022

**What do you like best about Clever?**

Clever's option to have all of your institution's most used links on one webpage provides a unique opportunity for those that don't want to have a cluttered interface online. The page is managed by an administrator that can link your applications to this location to provide multiple options. Where our other SSO application held primarily shortcuts and didn't provide the option of signing in to the applications for us, Clever does offer that ability in a format easy for our users to implement.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

Most all-in-one portals do not always log you in automatically to the applications located on their interface. This same issue also holds with Clever. So the overall name is a bit misleading. There does not seem to be any way that users can customize their screens. Our old option allowed users to move their favorites or even create their own shortcuts to applications they preferred. Because Clever is managed, the only option is to favorite what you may want. This ability would be helpful to our users.

**Recommendations to others considering Clever:**

The portal offers an easy to use option for those looking for a SSO portal for students or teachers. Provide training if at all possible to users even though it's easy to use.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At the K12 district I work in, Clever offers an easy way for IT to distribute the applications needed by students. This management makes it easier to send students to online locations rather than just having managed bookmarks. The applications entered into Clever also are ones that have the ability to integrate with the actual login option to make it a truly single sign on.

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Clever?**

Clever is really a wonderful program for us teachers/students/parents because it allows us to integrate multiple systems without having to go to a bunch of different web pages because it is all in one!

It can be finicky sometimes and now allow for the students/parents/teachers to log in. It is a complex interface at first if you do not know how to read but there are major dislikes.

I have had encountered any major issues with Clever Portal. It is accessible from school or home which is a great addition to distance learning for our students and parents. Clever is a wonderful one-stop portal for many platforms and works well with Google! As a school with 1:1 Chromebooks, having Clever makes it so much easier for students to sign-on with one ID!

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

Clever can be somewhat limited in the apps that are supported but the more common ones are available.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problem with students working in the digital space is that they have to access a multitude digital platforms; Clever Portal solves this by allowing students and teachers to sign-on to different digital spaces from one place. It's a central building that houses rooms that can be access with one click of a button and works well with Google! One of the main benefits that I've realized is that students get less frustrated when signing-in to platforms. Also, Clever Portal has various functions and tools that make it more than just a place for hosting links/apps, they also have a Messenger function, favorites function, and much more!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yang W. | Postmaster, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2020

**What do you like best about Clever?**

We use this clever portal for my kids' online learning courses. It's a portal with multiple apps together, just feel it's easy to manage all of the apps that my kids online learning. Our current school zone is using the app, which has the most important app called "Schoology", it includes all the links that my kids class uses. Like the teacher's zoom links for online learning, teacher's updates for each class, other teachers' webpage that my kids can check as well.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

(1) It's not that user-friendly, every time I have to log on again when restarting my computer.
(2) Besides, there's no way to turn in my kids' homework by phone, too much trouble when I try to submit my kids' homework. Every day when I try to submit their homework, I have to take pictures of their homework and then send to my email address, download from the computer and then submit. It would be great if I can submit kids homework by cellphone.
(3) Another parts I don't like is it's said that people can manage multiple accounts through one page, like family accounts, but I haven't set up successfully yet..

**Recommendations to others considering Clever:**

Yes I will recommend, still a good app.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Just manage my kids' online learning class as a parent. Benefits are some school apps are all installed in one portal, so that it's easier to use on class.

  ### 30. The Clever Portal is a One stop Shop (When it works)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James G. | IT Technician, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Clever?**

The Clever portal works amazing when it works. The best parts are that all of the students' information and links are in one single page. This is also the same page they use to login to their Chromebooks, so it makes it super useful for little kids.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

The problem with having a one-stop-shop like this is that if there is an issue with it on the user end or the clever side it could be catastrophic for users. In this case, the users are small children so it can make some problems that are simple becomme very large issues.

**Recommendations to others considering Clever:**

The customer service seemed non-existent at some times. Expect to be setting this up on your own. This system is not the easiest to set up either. It requires some pre-planning, forethought, and an expectation that if you get it wrong, you will have to fix it yourself. I along with another person were able to get it running but there was some delays initially.

You have to weigh the positives with the negatives. If you have little children that are one-to-one with Chromebooks, this is a nice solution that will help them and their parents not feel confused when logging into your devices or websites. But you need to have the planning and forethought to get the system set up ahead of time to plan for some unexpected delays and issues that may arise without any warning. When we made this decision, we decided it was worth it to the students, parents, and staff. Because of this, we went along with the system and have been using it since.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem we solve with this is the ability to have small children login to their computer and other systems like reading eggs or math seeds using their single clever badge. It definitely better than having kindergarteners memorize a password.

  ### 31. Clever is Easy for both Teachers and Students

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lauren W. | Head Swim Coach, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Clever?**

I love that students can log onto Clever with several different methods. They can use their school email, their student ID or even a unique QR code that they hold up to their laptop to log on. We can even help them find their passwords if they forget them. Clever also holds lots of different applications and home screens for all of their teachers. Almost like a virtual classroom.

For example, in my homepage, I have the apps listed for them to easily access their student textbook online, their Vocabulary.com practice site, Canvas (Where they turn in online work), and other useful apps. Their are TONS to choose from.

Students can also message you on Clever directly if they need help (Only to teachers).

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

There is nothing that I really dislike about clever. Clever is amazing and is the integration that we need during distance learning! The only thing that I can suggest for improvement is sending alerts to our email when a student messages us on Clever. That probably already exists, but I haven't played around in the settings for very long.

**Recommendations to others considering Clever:**

Highly recommend using Clever, you can see when your students have logged on last and interacted with Clever, which apps they used and how long they been inactive, giving you and your administrative team clear targeting goals.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It links applications together that need to be seamlessly connected to an account and makes it easier on the students (and the teachers, and tech workers in our district). For example, we can sync our classes with Canvas, Newsela, Vocab.com, and SO Many more!

I can direct students to Clever to access just about anything that they need online, and they can easily find it and log on through the portal with just a few clicks.

  ### 32. Makes My Life Easier

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James A. | Business Education Teacher, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2020

**What do you like best about Clever?**

I like that with the Clever platform you can easily sign on to just about any website or application that you can imagine. It has excellent applications in the school environment and almost all educational websites and applications are available to connect with. If you don't already have an account on some websites it will set one up for you, or guide you through a quick sign up process using the information connected to your clever account. I have found this most useful when I connect the websites and applications that I use the most and then organize them into a "class" or group where I can then click the link for a single sign on.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

The only thing that I dislike is navigating to find the apps or websites that you use the most. I think that it could be easier to access these areas of the website. At the moment there are a lot of categories and groups which make it difficult to find exactly what you are looking for unless you use the search tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Clever:**

Give it a try because you might find that the time saving functions of this platform are well worth your school or districts investment.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to log on once and then access all of the websites that I need is excellent. I no longer have the problem of spending a lot of class time signing on to platforms that I use on a daily basis.

  ### 33. Clever Accessibility

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tasha F. | STEM Math Elementary Coordinator Grades 3rd - 5th , Education Management, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Clever?**

The Clever Portal is a one stop shop for teachers and students to easily access the district resources. Teachers and students do not have to toggle through several documents to find the links to district purchased resources.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

The search option isn't as accurate as we would like for it to be. You have to be sure to include the correct name of the product you are searching for in the system.

**Recommendations to others considering Clever:**

Use the Clever options in professional development to ensure teachers know where the options are located.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Teachers and students do not have to look over all of the district resources to access the tools. One simple log-in is all that is needed.

  ### 34. Really Great Service!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sagan Gokou S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2020

**What do you like best about Clever?**

I love how you can get to your website fastest. It has everything that I need, such as SchoolsPLP, plus I got code.org.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

Well, there are some things I simply hate about this website. (1) I can't delete any apps that I don't need, (2) why the heck does Google appear in the apps? You don't need that! Google is just a search engine. If you have Google Chrome, you don't need that. What's the point? (3)

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't currently have any to solve.

  ### 35. Great for students and educators

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Clever?**

I really like being able to set this up once and have all sign in information to all learning platforms in one area. It cuts down on transition time.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

Sometimes you have to log out to log back in, but it rare.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problems that are solved with using Clever are many. Since all of student and staff login information is stored here, it's easy to search for the platform you would like to use and click instead of having students remember username and password for all the different platforms.

  ### 36. The portal that truly is clever!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Clever?**

I absolutely love that Clever allows multiple applications and access to those applications all in one place. This is extremely simple to maneuver and access - whether as a staff member or student! The layout is clean and clear with simple scrolling to and nice and bright icons. Clever allows students and staff to access multiple programs in one area. It allows the staff a central location to gather information and resources the administration or district may provide - limiting the confusion on where to go to obtain the valuable information provided in a timely manner. Students are able to keep their classes together in Clever and access their textbooks, schedules and current homework all in one centralized location. This allows students to stay organized and maintain work in one location - preventing losses.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

There are times when you click on an application and your simple sign in - automatic login - does not follow thus prompting you to reenter your credentials. There is one downside to utilizing Clever with student records and that is grades are not stored in Clever. You would need to import their grades over to whatever system you use for that. Other than that, the program runs smoothly and offers the ease of accessing multiple applications and sharing communications with needed staff in a quick and efficient manner.

**Recommendations to others considering Clever:**

If you are wanting to consolidate your programs you utilize amongst staff - and students if in the education field - Clever is the right portal to use! I recommend all companies that use more than one program - including time card/clock in software - to give Clever a try. It will simplify your work load with the ability to access staff reports and work and it will simplify your staff's time as they are able to utilize one source for production, resources, and information.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Clever is used in my environment for easy access to staff resources and programs needed throughout the day. Applications such as: time card reporting, trainings, professional development, district wide news and updates, student assistance services and more! The benefits that clever provides in my day to day work is the simplicity to access all programs I need with the click of a button. I do not have to log into multiple locations in order to get into the one program that I need. Everything is at the tip of my fingers. Clever also combines all staff into the one program - whether you are administration, instructional or support.

I love that all of the website I need and my students use are all in one place and linked together to keep things flowing smoothly. I also love that students don't have a ton of passwords to memorize to complete online work.

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

There is some things I still don't know or use in this application. I hate when tips pop up when I am in a hurry and trying to log into a website.

**What problems is Clever solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Forgetting all of students' passwords and even website URLs that we use is a thing of the past! I love it organized for students as well.

  ### 38. Clever Might Not Be so Smart

**What do you dislike about Clever?**

I dislike that it doesn't integrate well with ALL online schooling sites. There are some sites that cause lag and miscommunication between the servers.
