This makes them motivated to behave well and finish their work on time as they get awarded with virtual points. Another thing that is amazing about ClassDojo is their impressive amount of analytics. I can easily see the students progress and see what activities he/she is excelling at. It also serves as a way for me to communicate with parents about their student's performance. I dislike how it is somewhat hard to use ClassDojo. Sometimes, the features may malfunction and the analytics may show false information. It allows me to manage my classroom during the day, but also makes parents aware of problematic (or great!!) behavior before I even have the chance to message them in regards to how their students' day went. This is really helpful for kids that have chronic behavior issues, as it enables their parents to reach out and have a picture of what their day really looked like- and what they can expect from the every day check-in with me to look like that day. I dislike that sometimes the system crashes if too many people are on it at once, which makes the system very hard to rely on. When we switched over to virtual learning, too many people were trying to get on the system at once. This prevented me from being able to communicate with my students and their parents, which led to confusion during the first several days of this online transition. Though it was unexpected that we were all headed toward an online platform for learning and therefore it is not all Dojo's fault, it would have been nice to have the problem resolved more quickly so that teachers would have been able to communicate better with their students and parents right from the very beginning. It is easy to use, and easy for parents to sign up for. It makes it so easy to award points/ take away points based on classroom expectations every day. Students really enjoy watching their "monsters" change shape and color based on the amount of points that they earn. Parents really enjoy being able to stay in the loop! I have really enjoyed my experience with Dojo, and I think that everyone else should experience it as well!! My advice is that it is a great program, and a free app for your phone so there is no reason to not give it a try! I would highly recommend this product to others that are considering ClassDojo. I have realized that there are many benefits to this platform, as the parents are able to stay on the same page with me at all times. This has been very helpful in managing some of the more difficult behaviors in my classroom, and providing parents with a peace of mind that they know how their child's day looked every day. There is an option for parents to see exactly what caused students to gain/ lose points, so that opens up that channel for communication at home when the student returns from school that day!! My favorite feature is ease of messaging to students or parents in a safe and contextualized environment. At it's best, it's an excellent communication tool that allows sharing of pictures and other progress. The group maker is a really handy quick tool for creating small groups. I'll say more about the awarding of points built into the program in a moment, but if used carefully there are helpful ways a teacher can show parents and students where their strengths are and when they are having a good day. There is a strong behaviorist approach apparent in assigning 'points' for students doing well or poorly, and there's a good deal of research on the negative impacts this can have early on. It's like a digital version of the behavior clip up/clip down board, and i personally deeply disagree with this behavioral management approach. This is a software that enables you to give students immediate feedback on their actions, participation and work in real time. For each term you teach, you can build separate classes. There are different character pictures that your students can choose from or pick. My students liked their character to pick. You may also personalize when and why students receive points. You can project the screen to see if students win or lose points. I appreciate your outstanding sharing in classrooms, in message communities, and in post-student events in your unique portfolio. Emails that aren't received in real time I don't like. Sometimes she has notifications too late and parents are irritated not to react. There is the ability to link to parents but I can only use this in a basic form without real student information and parent accounts because of the password and the log-on limitations in my school district.
