Lack of behavior data for those in SpEd.

Class Dojo eliminates the paper and pencil home note regarding behavior and events, as you can track behavior, reinforce behavior, and communicate with parents via dojo.

i like that i can not only see my kids 'points', but also see school-wide and class teacher posts, and even communicate with the teachers directly via in-app messaging.

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

if a teacher is less on top of the app, it may take time to get connected since they have to confirm your kid in their class....

making communication with my kids teachers direct and easy

I like that I can reach the teacher whenever i have a question or concern

Nothing that I've encountered as of yet!

This allows me to see what what my son's progress in is on a daily basis, the teacher can share moments and photos with the entire parent community of the class, and we can all feel connected.

I like the ability to connect with students and their parents. In this free application, I had 180 students I could communicate with. This is one stop shopping for communication. 

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

I like basically everything about this app except for the fact that I get so many messages!

Great tool for communicating with students!

I am communicating with students and parents around behavior so that off-task and disruptive behaviors can be at a minimum in the classroom.

**What do you like best about ClassDojo?**

I liked that parents could monitor their student's progress and would have data that day about the child's behavior.

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

That the characters were very elementary; it worked great for elementary, but the characters were a bit juvenile for my middle school classroom.

**Recommendations to others considering ClassDojo:**

For an elementary school classroom, this technology is fantastic to maintain consistent communication between families and students. Younger students loved the little "monster" characters they were each assigned. There is a free version I was able to use in my classroom, but since I worked in a team setting with not everyone using the same program, consistency was challenging. I feel this product would be an excellent asset if all teachers working with a student/group of students used the same system.

Consistent behavior management. I liked that students knew where they stood as well as their families.

I like the accessibility of the app. I use it on my phone, PC and iPad.

Sometimes the app freezes and it makes it difficult to connect to parents, give points, etc. There are also occasional lags.

It's a great way to connect to parents and students.

There aren't any business problems this app solves but it does make teaching and management easier.

Point and demerit system, great for younger kids to keep them aware of what is going on in the class and to learn good and bad behavior. 

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

Too many options for behaviors could limit this to have a simpler flow, or maybe the ability to type in your own rather than choose from the specified set. 

**What problems is ClassDojo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Definitely benefits teachers to keep different classes organized, especially when they have many classes, also convenient for communicating between teachers and parents.

I love how excited my kids get when they earn a dojo point. But most importantly I love setting the expectations and goals along with my students. 

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

There is not much to dislike about this tool. The student is held accountable and able to take their own learning and behavior into their hands.

Decreasing office referrals, decreasing negative behaviors by reinforcing positive ones.

**What do you like best about ClassDojo?**

I loved many things about Class Dojo. It was user friendly, fun, and very applicable to my job as a teacher. I also liked I could have it on my computer, my phone, and my tablet so I could update student points no matter where we were in the building. I also liked that the students could take ownership of it and got to customize their character.

Not having a place to explain behaviors in more detail.

LOVE this!! The teacher tools (noise meter, group maker, etc) are very helpful and simple to use. The software itself is an app and is almost like a Facebook for the classroom. My kids love using it and sharing pictures, achievements, school work and more. 

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

The app was a little much at first because there is just so much to learn but I don’t know that I would say it’s a negative!

**What problems is ClassDojo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the biggest things that has come in handy has been the message translator for my Spanish speaking families. It helps us all feel connected even when language would normally be a barrier.

The behavior management part is wonderful. I love that I can update points and parents can see right away if their child is having a good or bad day. I also love that I can message parents privately without having to give out my phone number. 

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

I dislike that videos cannot be added from the student site. My previous program allowed uploading of videos and it was very simple and easy.

I am able to communicate with parents so much easier than through phones or emails. I can see when a parent has read a message and know to expect a reply.

I dislike the fact that parents expect an answer right away. It is also not practical to expect that parents will want a update every time a child is talking throughout a school day.

There is very little that I dislike about class dojo. If the teacher does lots of updates, the alerts can be frustrating but that is easily turned off.

It is an interesting concept - funneling parents and teachers into an app instead of email to facilitate communication and accountability.

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

Since there is no way for an end user to track behavior beyond a two-week window, the app is completely worthless. Communication is better served going through secure, school-owned channels instead of a third-party app that could go away at any time.

The challenge of getting parents that are not participatory in their child's education plugged in. I would also like the ability to show a guest log-in for substitute teachers.

It's intent is noble as a method to communicate class information from teachers to students and their guardians.

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

The behavior monitoring/discipline systems seems like big brother and teachers can use it for over-reporting any misstep or sniffle or out of turn talking that students do.  These behaviors would be addressed teacher to student in class 10 years ago, and that'd be the end of it.  The very reporting and near synchronous communication systemically over-emphasizes behavioral problems, causing all interested parties (teachers, students, guardians) to over-analyze and over-react.

Keep in mind the psychological effects of the behavior management system.

I like School Story, as it shows what’s going on to families and community members.

I’m not big on the points system for rewarding students, as it seems a lot less tangible than physical in-class rewards.

My students liked the little characters a lot.

I pretty much have to walk around with it open and in hand, making it hard to use my devices for other things.

I love how I can keep in contact with my parents and that they can see what is happening in real-time at school.

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

Many times students click the wrong one causing me to have to  back and change it. I think this has a lot to do with the device we are using it on too. I have learned that tablets work better than Chromebooks.

I enjoy how ClassDojo can be used by the students. It is so easy to have them input their own dojos, positive or negative, and I believe that reinforces their consequence or reward.

There are only a few small, nitpicky things that I do not like, such as the group setting.

ClassDojo saves a whole lot of time on the teacher's part.

**What do you like best about ClassDojo?**

The student point tracking system is easy to use, project, connect with parents, and gives students real-time feedback for whatever you'd like to track. It may be geared towards younger students, but I've used it as a tool for high school classroom management at school where I didn't get any support outside of the classroom. My students responded to it really well, and I used it for an entire school year. Both the app and the desktop programs are easy to use, and the points are easily customizable. Best of all, it's free!

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

The icons are a little geared towards younger students, and I would like to see options for older students. It would be great if you could connect your roles with other classrooms as well. 

**Recommendations to others considering ClassDojo:**

If you are a teacher using Class Dojo, I highly recommend the ClassDojo Mentor community on Facebook. It's very helpful and people have many creative ways for using this product. 

**What problems is ClassDojo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Classroom management tool! It was extremely useful for tracking behavior in the classroom, or awarding points in a class economy type system.

**What do you like best about ClassDojo?**

I love that I can customize the customize the behaviors that students can earn a positive or needs work dojo for. It is easy to create groups, give whole class dojos, and assign dojos to students who are not absent. It is a an easy way to communicate how a student's day went by looking at their weekly percentage or sending them a quick message. I can also see when a parent received my message. Students regularly ask me about their percentage. Dojos can be updated on the computer or using an app.

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

On the iPhone app I was not able to see student's percentages until recently, but it still requires several clicks which is something I check often. 

**Recommendations to others considering ClassDojo:**

They also have fun little videos that have themes. I do not use the "student story" part of this app, however it looks like it would be fun for the kids.

I use it as a classroom management tool and way to communicate with parents. The less formal quick communication has helped build relationships with families. Students are motivated to make positive choices, monitor their percentage, and are aware of what behaviors caused them a negative dojo.

When I moved to the middle school, I doubted that my students would be motivated by a product designed for "little kids."  Yet, they really like it!  They enjoy customizing their avatars and earning rewards for points.

I wish I could clear students' points without it subtracting from the class points.  It would help me keep track of which students have already earned a reward but allow me to have their points contribute to the class-wide total.

**What problems is ClassDojo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My students are motivated by earning rewards for points.  After earning 50 points, they get a snack or free choice time (usually on their computers).  I also do class-wide rewards (sum of the average of 60 points per student) with the opportunity to earn a party by earning four class-wide rewards.  ClassDojo also has parent accounts that allow parents to monitor classroom behavior, as well as message me.  I only minimally use the class story option, but it seems like it could be a great way of staying connected with parents for the day-to-day fun students are having.

Class Dojo is user friendly and very easy to operate. Set up time is very minimal and two way communication is available. The developers have cleaned the software significantly since its launch. Developers provide frequent updates for the product. Since using the software, I can't recall any major crashes. The software does not require it's user to know a lot of in depth information to operate it. It is quick, effective, and efficient. The software provides realtime information and is accessible throughout the day. 

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

The model is very limited. Users at this time can't access the software offline. If a user doesn't have access to wifi or on a carrier network, Class Dojo doesn't update on its on. 

**What problems is ClassDojo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

First the platform is easy to operate and shows a range of behavior/conduct over a period of time. Class Dojo increases communication between parents and educators. The software allows parents to directly message teachers and vice versa. It also embraces technologies. Everyone is always on there phone now. Class Dojo gives parents the opportunity to inquire on their child's progress throughout the door. Additionally, this software allows teachers to make students accountable for this actions- rewarding food behavior and penalizing students when they are off task. My son absolutely loves to see a list of acceptable behaviors his teacher recorded him doing throughout the day. In addition, if certain behaviors show up frequently as a parent I am able to address the behaviors at home. Most behaviors are covered in the software.

Class Dojo has an excellent interface and is well-designed to allow me to enter behavior data very quickly from all of my iDevices. It also facilitates seamless parent communication in real-time; I don't have to remember to email so-and-so's parent about an incident or missed assignment when I finally get a free minute. 

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

The model itself is inherently flawed. I want my students to internalize good behavior, not be shamed into it. I also think that there are some privacy concerns here- you are accumulating a LOT of data on students in a very short amount of time. And it creates divides in the classroom in that it is much more effective for students whose parents subscribe than students whose parents don't. 

**Recommendations to others considering ClassDojo:**

The platform is excellent but the way the system is set up may not be philosophically in line with how you run your classroom.

I think the main strength of this app is that it allows very efficient, accurate communication with parents. It also collects an enormous amount of behavior data on students that can be useful to track patterns and trends over time.

Class Dojo is definitely worth a shot if you haven't tried it before. It may not work immediately or at all, but it certainly isn't harmful. It's so easy to set up that I think it's worth a chance.

**What do you like best about ClassDojo?**

Class Dojo is a really great way to positively enforce expected behaviors in the classroom.  I teach at a middle school and thought that it was sort of elementary.  However, students in grades 6-8 are motivated by the monster like creatures.  It is also a really nice way to communicate with parents about behavior concerns in the classroom.  I also really enjoy the class story page.  

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

I wish there was a secondary feature that could be used in high schools.  I see this tool as being a powerful way to motivate older students, if they made it look a little less elementary.

Don't be afraid to try it in a upper middle school classroom.

**What do you like best about ClassDojo?**

This is a great tool for teachers who are working with struggling students and a way to improve classroom management. To be able to pick on certain things (raising hand, speaking out, etc) gives the user a way to understand a child's ability in the classroom setting or in the school. Good tool overall and would always recommend to other users! I also think it is great that we can get the parents involved in the sense we can give them access to see their child's progress or things they should be working on with their students. 

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

I really love using classdojo, it just can be hard to adjust in the beginning especially if you are new, but they have tutorials online. It can be time consuming especially when you are in the classroom and with difficult children behaviors. I would advise not to use classdojo with all the student's name because it can become a negative data tool rather than positive. This can also be a hard tool if your school does not have the technology component. It is hard to carry around your laptop to add points. So make sure you can use your phone or can have access to an tablet.

It is a great tool and I would recommend using it in all schools to collect data!

A school is an actual business where we need to collect data. I think this is an overall great tool to understand what the needs of the students are as well as getting parents involved. This will also help with classroom management and to prepare behavioral charts if needed.

I like that students are immediately gratified by their good behavior with ClassDojo.  Instead of having to wait for a reward, they get it immediately in the form of points.  Also, students can collect their points to work towards a long term reward for their good behavior and productivity during class.  Students can get points for a variety of different behaviors with this program.  These are: Helping Others; On Task; Participating; Persistence; Team Work; and Hard Work.  These categories make it easy to encourage students to complete their work with minimum distractions for the rest of the class.  

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

I don't like that this program seems to appeal more to younger ages such as elementary school and possibly 6 or 7th grade as well.  I'm not sure that it is entirely appropriate for high school.  However, if I were an elementary school teacher than I would use this on a weekly basis!

Please be aware that this is better suited for elementary school students rather than high school students.

Class dojo provides a fun, organized, animated way to manage the classroom. Students are able to choose a monster and have a visual of how well they have done each day or areas they need to improve on. Also, ClassDojo allows the teacher and parents to stay in communication by allowing an option for parents to connect on the website as well.

The only thing I dislike about ClassDojo is that there is not more features on the site.

I love everything about it! The real-time feedback for students with specific, teacher created categories for behavior is great. They get to see exactly what they are earning points for and losing points for. I also love that it connects to parents immediately, they can see how their child is performing daily. I also love the app, I can give and take points from anywhere I have my cell phone.

I wish some of the student reports were more comprehensive/easier to read for parents.

This is very useful in keeping constant contact with parents and sharing with them activities in class or student progress. The language translation capabilities are interesting as well. I like the ability to privately message parents to update them should a situation occur with a particular student.

I am not quite sure about the reward system, it could work if done well by the teacher, but you would have to be careful to avoid creating a culture of competition by displaying all scores for everyone to see.

Seems like a solid and safe way to interact with parents. Especially good for classes with younger students.

I think this product does a decent job at allowing you to manage your class.  It allows you to customize your point system to fit your need.  It allows you to change the descriptors to fit the needs of your classroom.  For example, you can change class room disruption to any title you want or create more descriptors depending on what kind of model you want Class Dojo to fit.

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

The Avatars are a bit silly for an slightly more mature audience.  What I mean by this is, I don't see High school students buying into classdojo because of how the avatars look.

**Recommendations to others considering ClassDojo:**

I would recommend using this product if you know what kind of use you want to use it for.  I use it to show rewards, but the tricky part is to keep up with the class dojo and that way it is effective.

This allows the students to understand their point system, it causes you to visualize your results.  Students like seeing their point system next to their names and it is easier for teachers to manage their point system because of the easy interface use.

I love the fact that you can assign your own behaviors. I also love that teachers can share rosters to make sure that the behavior can be tracked throughout the day, or be broken into the specific class for tracking.

**What do you dislike about ClassDojo?**

I wish I had the ability to assign a behavior multiple points (either negative or positive) depending on the infraction or positive action. I also wish you could assign rewards on point value. I also think that it would be great to have students shop for rewards directly from the site/app.

**Recommendations to others considering ClassDojo:**

Perhaps creating a better way to administrate on the school/admin level. As well as creating a better way to reward right from the app.

**What problems is ClassDojo solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In schools, it becomes very hard to track behaviors for reporting while giving incentive to good behaviors. ClassDojo allows for positive behaviors to be tracked and rewarded just as easily as negative behaviors.
