Apart from its ability in allowing one's creative abilities to flow, the software caters to just about any real-life situation where there's a need to be met or a problem to be solved. FileMaker is a database for small to medium sized groups - ideal for a little business. Straight from the box, it does the boring, necessary stuff: invoices, packing slips, bill of goods, etc. Easy to customize to our specific needs: layouts customized to our specific business.

Startup was quick: we just chose their invoice system, and then over the years, customized it to our needs.

With this tiny business (just me, doing everything from warehouse to packing to postage and shipping) Filemanker does all the daily, monthly, and yearly paperwork. Over twenty years, I've written about 500 short scripts, each handling a little job (add taxes to this job; check to make sure each package gets delivered; add up quarterly sales taxes; show which items are running low stock)

FileMaker has been around for decades and has a massive community of developers at every stage. The product gets better year after year and is much than any Microsoft product I have used. It is adabtable and developers who have just a little knowledge can do anything with it. You can make an app that functional and looks very smart quickly and easily. You can experiment as you are developing. While the traditional schema based layout is clunky limiting, the fact you can integrate things like SQL and JSON means you can do pretty much anything easlily and quickly.
