## About CKEditor
CKEditor 5 is an AI-powered rich text editor built for modern applications that need a reliable, enterprise-ready editing experience. It combines a fully customizable editing framework with built-in collaboration, AI writing assistance, and document interoperability features such as import from Word and export to Word or PDF. From advanced document editors to lightweight email and messaging experiences, building with CKEditor gives you full control over the UX and backend integrations. It supports scaling up as requirements grow, without needing a new editor. CKEditor supports a wide range of writing and review workflows, with configuration options that help teams tailor the experience to specific audiences and use cases. Setup tools, including an online builder, help teams assemble editor builds and adjust feature sets more quickly during implementation. It is designed to fit into existing product architectures, with APIs and integrations that support both frontend and backend customization. With 300 plus features, teams can assemble a feature set that matches their users needs. This includes capabilities for structured document work such as document outline and pagination support, as well as productivity and governance features like accessibility support and restricted editing, alongside a wide range of formatting, content structuring, and productivity features. CKEditor AI supports brainstorming, drafting, reviewing, and refining content directly in the editor. It includes chat based generation and quick actions such as rewriting, summarizing, and tone adjustments. AI generated changes can be delivered as suggestions in the content, helping teams review and accept edits within existing approval workflows. Collaboration supports both real time and asynchronous review workflows with Track Changes, Comments, and Revision history. Real time collaboration enables multiple users to edit the same document at the same time while using these review tools, supporting content creation and feedback cycles inside a single application. Content conversion helps preserve structure when importing or pasting content from Word or Excel, and supports export to Word or PDF while maintaining formatting. This includes keeping review context such as suggestions and comments where applicable. File and media workflows can be supported through integrated tools with CDN delivery for serving assets at scale. CKBox provides a centralized file manager for uploading, organizing, editing, and delivering files, while Image Optimizer by Uploadcare focuses on image specific workflows such as uploads, optimization, editing, and consistent delivery across different environments. CKEditor works with modern tech stacks through maintained integrations with frameworks such as React, Angular, and Vue.js. It can also be used in environments like Electron or mobile applications depending on implementation requirements. Deployment options include cloud hosting, self hosting on premises, and hybrid setups depending on architecture, security, and compliance requirements.

## CKEditor Reviews
  ### 1. A useful tool to save time and simplify processes

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Games | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2025

**What do you like best about CKEditor?**

I actually like the fact I don't need many windows open since I can handle my content editing via the editor directly. Got introduced to it by a friend and it works like a charm for what it's supposed to do.

**What do you dislike about CKEditor?**

I don't use it very often, so I didn't find yet any drawback.

**What problems is CKEditor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solved the problem of having to open multiple software, windows and/or tabs in order to do content editing tasks, which removes the "boilerplate actions" and allowing to focus on the content itself.

  ### 2. Good editor

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rohit R. | CEO, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2024

**What do you like best about CKEditor?**

Stable and works in nearly 100% of the cases. Never faced any challenge.
Customer support has been quick to respond whenever I had a query.

**What do you dislike about CKEditor?**

It's heavy to load. We use multiple modules, but it's heavy to load in the browser.

The React sdk could be improvised so the integration is smoother.

Priced slightly higher.

**What problems is CKEditor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CKEditor has been helping Docupilot to offer an online WYSIWYG editor to build document templates.

  ### 3. Fit for purpose

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2024

**What do you like best about CKEditor?**

Competitive features compared to competition

**What do you dislike about CKEditor?**

Cost is probably the main detractor for CKE

**What problems is CKEditor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In product WYSIWYG

  ### 4. Good and easy to use, but bad for backward compatibility. Not preserve input code

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2023

**What do you like best about CKEditor?**

Easy for users to use, and easy implementation, rich features, easy to integrate to any project. Great customer support.

**What do you dislike about CKEditor?**

Poor backward compatibility from CKE4. If preserve content is important, you will hate CKE 5. Our team was flooded with angry customers' complaints for changing data.

**What problems is CKEditor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allow customers to put formmated content.

**Official Response from Ludwika Słowikowska:**

> Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly appreciate your insights, and we'd like to address your concerns.

First and foremost, we want to acknowledge your observations regarding the backward compatibility between CKEditor 4 and CKEditor 5. You're right; there have been instances where content preservation and compatibility have posed challenges during the upgrade process, especially for users with extensive legacy content or those who heavily rely on features like source mode.

Over the past few years, the CKEditor team has been diligently working to improve this situation. While we understand it's not yet ideal, we've made significant strides in enhancing compatibility between the versions. We've introduced new plugins and features that aim to better preserve your content during upgrade and make the transition smoother. We're committed to continuing these efforts to provide a more seamless experience for our users.

Regarding your specific experience, we'd like to help further investigate any compatibility issues you've encountered with CKEditor 5. It's possible that some known workarounds or optimizations might be available to address the concerns you've raised. To assist you more effectively, we encourage you to reach out to our technical support team. They can work closely with you to identify and address any specific compatibility issues you're facing. Plus your further feedback will be invaluable in helping us refine CKEditor and ensure it meets your expectations.

Once again, thank you for your feedback, and please don't hesitate to get in touch with our support team.

Best regards,

The CKEditor Team

  ### 5. Free* and collaborative web page rich text editor

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2018

**What do you like best about CKEditor?**

The built-in spell checker functionality is extremely useful! It's a small detail, but it's one I appreciate quite often. The real-time collaborative editing is one of the primary advantages to using CKEditor. It's available for free, but does come with ads not unlike many other free web-content generation services.

**What do you dislike about CKEditor?**

I don't think CKEditor 5 supports Internet Explorer 11 yet, but it is compatible with Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.

**Recommendations to others considering CKEditor:**

It takes some time to overcome the learning curve. It's worth getting some time on it on the free version before buying for this reason alone.

**What problems is CKEditor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is basically Google Docs for web page editing. A big plus in my book is that CKEditor is available under open source licenses.

**Official Response from Gökçe Tosun:**

> Thank you for the review and glad you enjoyed CKEditor 5. However, there is some misinformation here that we would like to clarify.

CKEditor 5 is available under GPL 2+ Open Source license and does not have ads. This could be due to CMS/Framework it is integrated into or the 3rd party plugins you're using. (for e.g WProofReader)

CKEditor 5 Collaboration features are unfortunately not available for free. They, including real-time collaborative editing, are premium features. However, there is a 30-day free trial. We also do our best to help out startups and fellow Open Source projects and have special programs for them. Please contact us, if you'd like to purchase CKEditor 5 Collaboration features and also we would love to hear about your use case.

  ### 6. CKEditor is a good WISYWYG option!

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 30, 2018

**What do you like best about CKEditor?**

Classic editor is what most users should be learning off of to associate with a rich text editor — they have a great toolbar with an editing area placed in a specific position on the page, usually as a part of a form that you use to submit some content to your company's server.

**What do you dislike about CKEditor?**

I'm not a fan of the toolbar. It's visible now, but it's always visible when the user scrolls the page down. And it gets annoying.
The editor content is now placed inline in the page (without the surrounding <iframe> element) — it's harder to style.

**Recommendations to others considering CKEditor:**

Get used to the tool bar it's not going anywhere.

**What problems is CKEditor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has helped us with our rich text editor for all the documents and content that we have.

  ### 7. CKEditor 5 is Okay

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Colleen M. | Americorps Member, Non-Profit Organization Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2018

**What do you like best about CKEditor?**

CKEditor has changed a lot over the last few years. They have been good about listening to the community to make it a more complex Text editor and to make it more user friendly.

**What do you dislike about CKEditor?**

I think it still has a lot of growing to do. You may as well just get a more well known product, as there are not may options or tutorials out yet for CKEditor 5.

**Recommendations to others considering CKEditor:**

I think at this point, it would be best to wait until the software is a little more advanced. It has some good ideas but it is still not as viable, in my opinion.

**What problems is CKEditor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Text Editing

  ### 8. great!

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2018

**What do you like best about CKEditor?**

I like that it helps me get my work done more efficiently

**What do you dislike about CKEditor?**

It could have a better user experience, navigation planes are confusing

**What problems is CKEditor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping us consolidate reports

  ### 9. The best rich text editors in its times but needs more modern implements especially for UI devs.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2016

**What do you like best about CKEditor?**

Mostly for its features and the support documentation. The fact that the editor supports a wide range of add-ons and handle HTML rendering well. It is mobile ready and has table editing capability.

**What do you dislike about CKEditor?**

Mostly for lost of formatting at times especially when working with tables. For modern implementation, I think, iframe is thing of the past when it has to do with rich text editing. UI styling can be challenging when implementing this editor.

**Recommendations to others considering CKEditor:**

For ease of implementing and the availability of the wide range plugins. Also GIT support available.

**What problems is CKEditor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Previously, I have implemented within forum applications in the past which a lot of users were pleased about but I had to switch due to the demand for modern UI implementations.
