I’m most impressed with the RO system architecture and the centralized management on this platform, which is very easy to use. The locked partition that contains the operating system adds an extra layer of security, since malware is less likely to persist. If needed, a reset brings the device back to a verified clean state. On top of that, I can deploy rigorous security policies, disable hardware ports, and remotely wipe devices in seconds through the Google Admin Console. However, the operating system does have notable limitations when it comes to advanced or specialized software. Because it relies heavily on cloud infrastructure and containerized web apps, we can’t run native, resource-intensive desktop applications such as legacy network analysis tools or certain local hypervisors. The Linux development environment helps bridge some of this gap, but it can still suffer from performance lag and occasional compatibility issues with more complex security scripts. ChromeOS solved a major operational headache for us when it came to device tampering and configuration drift between training batches. In the past, students would accidentally change deeper system settings or leave behind junk files, and our team would end up manually re-imaging every laptop before the next class. Now we use ephemeral profiles that automatically wipe all local user data on logout.
