  ### 3. Monitoring done rigth

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

After using and administrating different monitoring systems like Nagios, Zabbix or PRTG, I always came back to CheckMK.
The integration of new systems, the associated variance of monitoring, are so intuitive compared to the competition, also with regard to the user interface, that there can be no other decision regarding a software solution except CheckMK.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

Even if the documentation is extensive, especially compared to other software vendors, it may be that just the one case, which is particularly critical, is not documented.
Fortunately, you can rely on the community here.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CheckMK is giving us a effective overview over current and past, lets call it, events.
With those information we can't firstly analyse errors and prevent them in the future
und secondly we can generate future projections of possible situations and inform or warn the affected teams.

  ### 4. The most complete monitoring software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

Checkmk is a comprehensive and helpful monitoring software that excels in monitoring applications, servers, and networks both on-premises and in the cloud. It is way more complete than our previous moinitoring software based on Nagios.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

I dislike the UX of Checkmk, it is so complete, it has so many menus and options it is sometimes hard to find the thing that you want easily. Fortunately, the search engine in it makes the search easier, and the team is working on make the UX better.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkmk really helps us to industrialize the supervision of our IT department, whether virtual machines, databases or websites, checkmk is efficient and allows an automation of configurations which, once they have been done, are reducing greatly the time of addition of new supervised elements.

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

We can monitor host down alarms when any server goes down. And along with this we can monitor server's service alarms like memory, filesystem usage and power supply status and interface status etc.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

Need to install agent on servers. It is somewhat time taking process.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With this CheckMK , we are able to monitor ser host down alarms and the server's service alarms

**Official Response from Christian Reiser:**

> Dear Lakshman,

  ### 6. A highly customizable and widely available monitoring solution

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clemens T. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

Checkmk is highly customizable and allows us to monitor all our IT infrastructure devices. The company (Checkmk GmbH) does really care about their costumes and tries to improve Checkmk for the costumers needs.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

Because of the highly customization it's not very frendly for beginners. Furthermore there are some rules and features for example business intelligence that are very complicated to setup and edit.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkmk provides a central place for all your it infrastructure and makes troubleshooting much easier. Additionally it provides many checks/services out of the box so there is no need for manual integration of service checks.

**Official Response from Worathiti Manosroi:**

  ### 7. Easy to expand on once understood

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dragoș D. | Junior System Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

I really like the ease of which Checkmk allows to manage multiple monitored hosts, for existing and growing IT networks.
It's also easy to integrate multiple services into monitoring or develop local checks and plugins, based on your needs.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

I'm not really inclined to see a strong negative here, because my default state of mind is to work around and issue.
One thing I can mention is that Checkmk needs to be understood at the core, for it to be flexible for your needs

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problem alerting and statistics. Ease of host management and also notifications with alert handlers.

  ### 8. CheckMK - the best monitoring tool for our company

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Uwe J. | IT Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

Our company has been using CheckMK in our own company and with our customers since 2014. The main advantage for us is the wide range of options for monitoring IT systems and being able to flexibly adapt this monitoring. If we have problems, we get quick and uncomplicated help and support from the competent support team at tribe29. CheckMK's update and patch management is very good.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

There really isn't a single negative point.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CheckMK enables us to monitor all of our customers' IT environments. In this way, our 1st level support colleagues can identify problems quickly and efficiently and tackle their solution. Furthermore, we can offer our customers the opportunity to monitor the status of their own IT environment themselves via dashboard.

  ### 9. After using 6 years still "Fascinating!"

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marcel S. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

I like how easy it is to start with checkmk. After a few minutes you monitor your first host and you want more and more data. Everytime you dive deeper into checkmk you will find more ways to get a overview over your infrastructure.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

There is no big point, at the beginning there is a lot to do to define your structure because it can be hard to restructure later

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We get alerts from the monitoring of the WAN-connections and the VPN-connections before the customers call us

  ### 10. Best monitoring platform for our needs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ahmad Siddiq Mohd Adnan . | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

Simple, great budget wise and also feature-wise monitoring system available out there. Most of our needs are obtained in the platform without needing to purchase additional modules

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

It does its job well, but if it can be expanded to accept for example, netflow data natively it would be great. Also pricing should be documented transparently without asking sales

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkmk is able to monitor whatever my VM have. Simple and effective. We can also expand it using custom scripts if our requirements cant be fulfilled by native plugins.

  ### 11. Fantastic Monitoring Solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael M. | Senior Linux and IT Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

The biggest positives here are the number of things CheckMK actually does natively; for instance, I run Nagios for my alerting currently, and then Cacti for my KPI graphing and reporting; CheckMK is able to replace both of these platforms giving me less to maintain over time.

Couple this with the ability to pair remote engines to a central console for all your assets behind a single pane of glass (Something Cacti does today, but Nagios Core does not), so not only did this solution allow me to chop my tech footprint in half by combining everything I need under one application, but it significantly simplified asset management as my NOC no longer has to rely on multiple front end UIs for asset management.

The biggest plus by far is that while CheckMK does have an enterprise license tier, everything I listed and am using is available under the Raw or Community (Free) version of the product..

In 30 years of managing IT infrastructures, this is undoubtedly the best end-to-end monitoring solution I have ever used.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

Really the only 'negative' I can even think of is the enterprise licensing is (IMO) somewhat confusing to understand, but I almost cannot even call that a negative because, again, every bit of core functionality listed in my review is available for free, which means (As the licensing is based on services monitored, not hosts as I would expect) instead of having to try and figure out what that number is for service checks, I can set up literally everything using the free edition, and then if we decide we do need to upgrade to enterprise I can have the console tell me how many services I am monitoring as it would be a "lift and shift" at that point.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CheckMK has allowed me to seamlessly combine what Nagios Core, and Cacti were doing for me before while also simplifying alerting and management for my NOC staff!

  ### 12. Pretty early adopter - still there

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simon B. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

CheckMK is rule based - if you understand this concept it is easy to scale and very powerful.
Also the software keeps learning new tricks with every release.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

Not much - maybe a bit steep learning curve for new colleagues - but thats it

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Best case - it helps me to avoid problems. And that´s the case.

**Official Response from Sara Garifullina:**

> Dear Simon,

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide your feedback. It truly means a lot to us. We're thrilled to hear that you've been with us for a while and that Checkmk is meeting your expectations.

I like to be able to see the console in my mobile phone as well.
In addition I tested SAML authentication and it works like a charm

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

server status

  ### 16. Good and powerful monitoring solutions

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

CheckMK is a user-friendly and easy-to-set-up monitoring system.
It already offers a large number of built-in checks for monitoring with predefined measurements.
This makes it easy to get started with system monitoring. In addition, there are many short instructions in video form from the development team, especially for the beginning.

CheckMK is very adaptable, own checks can be integrated quickly

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

Many adjustments are made via rules. Rules can be made in different places, centrally, at the host or at the individual check
This can make it very confusing.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

one centralized monitoring for several teams. We can adapt that all teams get only the alarming they need.
The tool allows us to proactively detect problems before users report them .

  ### 17. Powerful and excellent value

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2022

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

Checkmk is one of the most powerful Nagios-derived systems available. The navigation avoids fashion in favour of simplicity, and the enterprise version is one of the cheapest monitoring and alerting solutions on the market. On top of that, there is an excellent API and it is straight-forward to create custom extensions.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

The documentation remains a work-in-progress, but has improved over the last 18 months. There is a rather steep learning curve, but less so than many comparable products.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is providing us with extensive infrastructure monitoring across two countries and also allows a degree of triaging of events. This gives us advance warning of infrastructure issues before they fail, at a fraction of the cost of other products.

  ### 18. The CheckMK conference is always a pleasure

  ### 19. Checkmk

**Reviewed by:** Attilio V. | Cloud Presales Consultant , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

Checkmk is easy-to-use, comprehensive, and scalable IT monitoring and management solution that helps proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact end-users. Its advanced alerting system, comprehensive monitoring capabilities, and integration with other IT management tools make it a popular choice among IT teams.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

Complexity: Checkmk is a powerful tool that offers a lot of features and customization options. However, this can also make it complex to set up and configure. Some users may find the learning curve steep, especially if they are new to IT monitoring tools.

Resource-intensive: Because Checkmk monitors a wide range of IT infrastructure components, it can be resource-intensive, particularly when monitoring large environments. This may require more powerful hardware to support the tool, which could be a potential disadvantage for smaller organizations with limited resources.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkmk is solving several problems related to IT monitoring and management, including:

Proactive issue detection: One of the main problems Checkmk solves is the ability to proactively detect issues before they impact end-users. Checkmk's advanced alerting system helps IT teams to identify issues in real-time and take quick action to resolve them.

Comprehensive monitoring: Checkmk provides comprehensive monitoring capabilities for a wide range of IT infrastructure components, including servers, network devices, storage devices, applications, and cloud resources. This allows IT teams to monitor the entire IT environment from a single platform, reducing the need for multiple monitoring tools.

Centralized management: Checkmk provides a centralized management platform for IT infrastructure, allowing IT teams to manage all aspects of their IT environment from a single console. This simplifies the management process and reduces the risk of errors.

For us is a very important tool, because we propose this tool for monitoring some envirometns in our clients.

Multi sites GUI. We have multi sites with one central GUI.
We can monitor Hardware, Systems (Windows and Linux), can check with SNMP and agent.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

The ammount of cummunity developed plugging and checks can be a bit overwhelming on what works on which version. Also there are many ways to achieve the monitoring you want, and to find the best one could need some trial and error

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkmk is our go-to overview of general status of hosts, services, infrastructure and events. It bridges our need to keep an Ops centre in 24/7 monitoring and a solid background for incident escalations for our SoC

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

The best thing about Checkmk is its simplicity and elasticity to monitor a huge range of products.
Moreover, APIs are very useful to automatize some procedures.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

It could be fine to integrate some functions like email configuration, updates and backup directly from the console also using the tool installed on a VM.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All good for the moment

  ### 33. A powerful monitoring system for IT-infrastructure

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

I like the way it covers monitoring for the modern IT-infrastructure.

Checkmk has come so far in terms of having integrations built in to other important systems. Also it has come a long way for the automation part, because of the new rest-api.

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

No way to delete multiple rules, and doing notification testing is demanding as it takes time and you have to be fast to click the fake check in order to see the result.

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkmk is doing it easier for us to automate data to our needs, so it suits our organization.

It also gives us an accurate realtime data on how our systems health are.

  ### 34. Unmatched scalability and customisation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 20, 2023

**What do you like best about Checkmk?**

It's rather easy to set up distributed monitoring to scale your monitoring infrastructure and manage the cmk sites from a central (master) setup. Also, every request I've received could be implemented thanks to the numerous out of the box checks, and if all else should fail, a self written custom plugin and check can definitely solve the issue. The docs are also great!

**What do you dislike about Checkmk?**

There's no piggyback data transfer solution in place yet (but it's already under development).

**What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Almost every monitoring related tasks are handled with checkmk. It's not an issue to connect every host in your infrastructure, and the bakery makes managing agents an easy job.
