You can start on Community Edition and continue on Enterprise. I almost haven't found a thing I can't monitor. And for those very few things that I couldn't, I wrote my own checks. Also, the fact that almost everything is detected automatically makes it very easy to use and set up. No need to dig into configuration files manually; just click and go. And if I do run into an issue just contact the CheckMK staff. My experience is that they respond quickly and help get the issue resolved. **What do you dislike about Checkmk?** As I did mention, it can monitor almost everything. For new users this can be a bit overwhelming. CheckMK makes the life of system administrators much easier because you will never miss anything that's going on in your IT environment! **What do you dislike about Checkmk?** If you want to write your own checks in python it could be a challenge to understand how the system works. The search for rules is a bit obtuse. Really need a method to search more easily and globally. As this is standard in CheckMK we were able to monitor these. From what we found in these logs we were able to identify and solve issues that slowed down our systems but hadn't noted before. Also we gained more insight on what was happening in our Tomcat servers allowing us to tune them better. ### 17. When we reviewed about a dozen monitoring tools back in 2016, we chose, then, check_mk (raw), because there was very little it couldn't do. It was so valuable to the company that we bought the enterprise produce which comes with even more features. If you want everything monitored, CheckMk is best in class. **What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?** We're monitoring almost 10,000 services across just 170 hosts. That's more monitoring than any other product we've tried. Checkmk helps us to respond proactively to situations before things become critical. It has also found problems that we did not know we had. Because it is fairly simple to add custom local checks and plugins, we're able monitor clear down to the api level, the requests coming into our microservices. Custom graphs, reports and dashboarding allow you to see or get the information you want, however you want. ### 18. For the ~500 servers in our stack, it took me less than an hour to get up and running. **What do you dislike about Checkmk?** The rules definitions are a bit difficult for me to follow. For example, we have most of our servers on a unified port number but there are a few that use a different port number for various reasons. When using ssh as the connection method for the checkmk agent, everything defaults to the unified port, and I can't seem to define it using the excludes or server definitions.
