We monitor around 30,000 services with it, including physical servers, virtualized linux and windows, and networking hardware. It's also pretty easy to deploy service checks! The agent bakery (Not included in the Raw edition) is a life saver when managing as many agents as we are. **What do you dislike about Checkmk?** The UX is a bit rough until you get used to it. The vast number of prebuilt plugins has been impressive, I never dreamed I could get the level of information from devices like Azure, storage, backups, etc, typically items that the vendor restricts what you can gather. They have done a good job of giving you the ability to take the monitoring at default levels, or if you want to spend more time, you can get in and tweak your settings and what information is important to you at what time. I'm a tinker so I love the ability to tune checkmk and dig into the logs and plugins to understand how it works and make the monitoring a perfect fit for our organization. I have opened a few support cases and received good responses and quick resolution. We also utilized their professional services, Anastasios and the team were very helpful and I was impressed with their depth of knowledge. Really, I cannot say enough, I'm glad we discovered checkmk and that it lives up to the monitoring needs that we require. **What do you dislike about Checkmk?** I dislike that I don't have more time during my workday to spend time with checkmk :) In all seriousness, the only items I dislike are this way by design. There aren't any deployment options to distribute the checkmk client, so migrating to this software can take a bit of time upfront to get it deployed, but this can also be a good thing as it limits what abilities checkmk has for accessing your endpoints so there is less privileged access. Outside of that, I have enjoyed our experience and look forward to continuing to integrate checkmk in our environment. **What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our previous monitoring solution was unstable and could only do the basics of up/down and resource levels. There were still a bunch of applications and software that I needed to monitor manually which is very time-consuming (certificate/password expiration for Azure registered applications, SSL/TLS certificate expiration on servers, Citrix licensing, Microsoft 365 licensing, load balancing virtual servers as a few examples). Check_MK has a very strong community here the opensource idea is still lived and you get great support. **What do you dislike about Checkmk?** It happens that some rules are based on others and it is not always transparent which ones they are - and sometimes there are similar or the same rules and it can happen that you first end up with the wrong one. e.g. file group monitoring - I first have to make a file monitoring Rule1 then a group - Rule2 and then I still need limits on this group - Rule3 - here you could make a connection to the others in the rules that would simplify the configuration at this point. If you really want to maximize the usefullness of it, you can tweak basically everything to your needs. The CheckMK has also a great community that is highly likely to help. If you are short on Budget you can easily use the free version first to get an impression and later on move to the enterprise version for even better support (from CheckMK directly) and some more tools (like automatic agent updates etc.). **What do you dislike about Checkmk?** So far i didn't really encounter any major downside to using CheckMK. The only real one i could see is the somewhat tedious job to adjust the notifications to your needs. Using only the default parameters does indeed a great job but for some machines you need some extra rules to avoid getting "spammed" by their notifications. However this also depends a lot on your servers that you monitor. **What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?** CheckMK gives us a single site to check on the status of all our server. We can see in a few seconds which server have a problems or need attention. In cases of troubleshooting we can also check graphs over the last few days to see if the problem was just approaching slowly or if it was one major hiccup all of a sudden. Embedded performance trend for discovered services is really usefull. **What do you dislike about Checkmk?** I found difficult to understand the relationd between service groups, rules, notifications and so on. A veneral picture in the documentation would be usefull. Sometimes WebGui navigation is not clear but it's getting better with time. **What problems is Checkmk solving and how is that benefiting you?** Checkmk is easy to implement, especially using the Ansible automation. Our automations install agents and plugins, enroll agents on Checkmk Master, put hosts in correct folders and apply to them tags and criticality. You can integrate all kinds of devices and the agent runs on almost every OS. It also provides good default values for all metrics, so you will instantly get meaningful checks and alerts. What I especially learned to love is the Business Aggregation tool, in which you can integrate all the dependencies and relations of a complex system like E-Mailing. **What do you dislike about Checkmk?** By the nature of the product, it can look quite complex at first to someone not familiar with monitoring.
