## About Checkly
Checkly allows engineers to write their E2E monitors as they write their cloud-native application, as code. Powered by the Checkly CLI, engineers code, test, and deploy API and Playwright-based checks from their code repository. Checkly's programmable Monitoring as Code (MaC) workflow seamlessly integrates with modern development practices, tools, and frameworks, at a fraction of the cost of legacy testing and monitoring solutions. The end result? Detecting issues faster, reducing response times, and shipping code faster with more confidence, resulting in increased efficiency and cost reduction of up to 80% compared to legacy solutions. Founded in 2018, Checkly is a remote-first company, with strong roots in Berlin.

## Checkly Reviews
 ### 1. A Practical Tool for Real-Time Monitoring

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manish K. | Project Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2026

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

What I like most about Checkly is how simple and dependable it feels. It doesn’t overcomplicate anything—you can set up checks quickly and genuinely trust the alerts when they come in. Since I’m managing multiple operations, I really value how much time it saves and how it cuts down on manual follow-ups. The interface is clean and straightforward, and it works well without much of a learning curve, which is a big plus for me.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

Sometimes it feels a bit too technical, especially for non-developers. Setting up advanced checks or fully understanding some of the terminology can take time. Pricing can also feel a little high for smaller teams, and having more ready-made templates or locally relevant use-case examples would make it easier to get started quickly.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkly helps me make sure critical workflows and systems keep running without issues. Before, we either had to manually check things or only react after something broke. Now we receive real-time alerts, so we can spot and fix problems early—before they affect users or operations. It saves time, reduces stress, and gives me confidence that everything is running smoothly in the background.

 ### 2. "Checkly: Test Smarter, Monitor Better"

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** AJAX A. | Test Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

What I like best about Checkly is its "monitoring-as-code" approach, which fits perfectly into modern CI/CD workflows. The ability to write API and browser checks in JavaScript/TypeScript using Playwright, commit them to Git, and run them globally is a game-changer. It feels like an extension of your development process—not a separate tool you have to babysit.

The integration with Playwright is especially powerful—it allows for deep browser-based testing with rich artifacts like screenshots, traces, and console logs. Checkly also makes alerting simple and flexible with Slack, email, and webhook support, so you always know when something breaks.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

While Checkly is powerful, there are a few areas where it could improve. The pricing tiers can feel a bit rigid—especially for growing teams that fall between the limits of Starter and Team plans. More flexible or usage-based billing would be helpful.

Also, while the Playwright integration is great, the learning curve can be steep for teams new to writing tests in code. Some advanced features could use more in-depth documentation or examples.

Lastly, data residency options are limited. For teams with strict compliance needs (especially in the EU), having more control over where monitoring data is stored would be a big plus.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The result is faster issue detection, better visibility into production performance, and higher confidence in deploymentsall with less manual effort.

 ### 3. The best experience with Synthetic Testing on the market!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sayoan O. | QA Especialista | Plataforma QA, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

Checkly is extremely versatile and comprehensive, allowing the quality team to actively support Shift Right Testing through automated scripts being executed recurrently. A modern tool for API monitoring and front-end testing that combines the best of both worlds: test automation with Playwright and continuous API monitoring. It allows testing applications easily and efficiently, with quick alerts via Slack, email, Opsgenie, and more. With test execution from different global regions, it is perfect for ensuring everything works well for users anywhere. The direct integration with CI/CD pipelines and an intuitive interface make Checkly a practical choice for development teams that value stability and performance.

Now we can post-deploy in production to have an execution ensuring feature availability, our best experience is coding and managing automated web tests with Playwright.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

I would like an integration with Gitlab as a code repository, even though we have code snippets, in some cases this approach is not possible, thus generating code duplication.

Looking for something through the page object model.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Availability of features. Here at frete.com, we use it to test micro journeys, thus ensuring that third parties (marketing) or even deployments from our team do not impact the final experience.

 ### 4. Checkly is easy, reliable, and gives us peace of mind

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joachim F. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

It's so easy to set up, categorise, integrate with e.g. Slack, etc, fast customer support.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

No real downsides that I've found! Perhaps I wish the status page was available on the Team plan - but the public dashboard suffices for us anyways. We're very happy with it!

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkly gives us confidence that our APIs are up and working smoothly from across the globe.

 ### 5. Easy to setup and use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Human Resources | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

it is quite easy to use, userfriendly ui

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

honestly nothing, maybe the requested feature could be delivered faster

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Alerting us if something is wrong with webpage

 ### 6. Easily to setup via UI or via Code repository

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

Monitoring proactively my systems and SaaS Product before a user reach us for an incident.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

complete tool suite, need to be well onboarded and familiar with the domain.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Proactively monitor production systems

 ### 7. Developer friendly and forward looking monitoring

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Geir Arne B. | Software Product Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

Rock solid, developer friendliness and forward looking product developent, especially the advances in "monitoring as code"

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

The dashboard/status page and incident /planned maintenance functionality could be more feature rich, to provide better communication to end users during downtime.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Monitoring of our web sites and end-to-end functionality in production environment, running on fully independent infrastructure.
We have close to zero false alarms, so Checkly monitoring gives us a very very good picture of how real and users are experiencing our sites.

 ### 8. Monitoring Made Easy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ash L. | Operations Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

I like that Playwright is very easy to understand and that I can build and deploy checks in code and deploy via our pipelines. Gives a great audit trail for all changes and allows easy rollbacks if we mess up a test. it didn't take us long to deploy and start working from code as well

The UI for the most part is sleek and allowing filtering on tags allows us to organise our tests accordingly.

Customer support has been great so far, we have used slack for most of our communication with them but will occassionally have service calls with them.

Checkly is used daily within my team and we've even adopted using the synthetic monitoring to power our Statuspage via PagerDuty.

Checkly are very open to feedback we've found so far especially around suggesting new features.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

Some elements of the UI could see some improvement, specifically for me around clicking into errors. I would also prefer it if we could see a video of the last successful test run before a failure for additional context. We have raised this and I believe it is being worked on.

My other biggest gripe is reporting, however this scenario is likely limited to how we as a team operate. Currently we can only get 4 hours worth of reporting though we have some custom scripts that allow us to pull 24h worth of data for our morning report as we like to discuss test failures in our daily morning meetings.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Synthetic monitoring to simulate user journies on our website as well as checking our APIs are up and running, as well as recently powering our statuspage to report any downtime in our API suite. It is one tool in our plethora of monitoring we use

 ### 9. Great experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amer A. | QA Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

I love how easy it is to set up and manage end-to-end tests, good documentation and great communication with users.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

Pricing can be somehow high for smaller teams or startups.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automated browser checks simplify the testing process, saving time and effort.

 ### 10. A disrupter in QA space.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shashank S. | QA Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

Checkly has given me so much free time to think about the actualy qa automation scenarios instead of worring and managing the runtime servers and reporters. It has revolutionalized monitoring for me and integrated it with playwright so qa can run their automation suits and monitoring.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

nothing really. checkly has been literally a life saves for small teams.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Hosting my playwright automation suite
- Hosting my API automation suit
- Hosting my monitoring tests
- Keeping a well maintained UI to get historical and future trend analysis

 ### 11. Checkly for next.js project auto-linked to github

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

Whenever, we push a code update to github. It runs the configured necessary test for the project health. It gets auto-configured & linked to our github account for continous monitoring.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

While we're using checkly in all of our (4) next.js projects. We haven't got anything to dislike on it with our minimal use cases.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps in downtime and runtime montioring of the site for us.

 ### 12. All-in-one monitoring

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

Checkly is our default tool for any monitoring task. Its ease of use, flexibility, and feature breadth make it the perfect tool for all kinds of monitoring (API endpoints, Web apps, CRON jobs execution, etc.).

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

Honestly, there isn't anything we can complain about it.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Unified tool to monitor various services uptime and latency (public, private, HTTP, cron jobs)
- Public Status page

 ### 13. Nice CI/CD Tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wahid A. | Freelancer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 04, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

It is easy to implement and have clear documentation. Work well with the majority of platforms. It is integrated into my majority of projects.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

It has its learning curve for adding advanced features.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It made my Devops easy and saved me lots of time.

 ### 14. Versatile and Responsive

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

They updated and deployed code changes on the fly to include parameters that we wanted for certain checks. They also have very generous plans that are adjustable for the types of checks you need. It's also nice to have the option to use cmd line or a UI, and is extremely customizeable.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

They are on the West Coast, which means they are sleeping while we are starting the day. We haven't had an emergency, but it's good to know that there's a time difference for live support.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Right now, we have basic checks set up to monitor that applications are up. We are moving to check functionality, but for now, it gives us a good view of things that may be happening when we are focused on other things.

 ### 15. user-friendly API and browser checks that are easy to set up and provide reliable monitoring.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** sandesh u. | Service Desk - Incident Support Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

The API and browser checks in Checklyhq are very simple to implement and work very well. I was very new to checklyhq and was able to implement these pretty quick by following checklyhq's tutorial video. The reliability of these checks has given me peace of mind, knowing our thirdparty SaaS application are consistently being monitored.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

Nothing so far. I am new to checkly and exploring it more. Have just started with it and was suprised to the user friendly interface. Have already setup checks and created a dashboard as well to monitor SaaS application health which my team supports.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We leverage the ChecklyHQ monitoring application to proactively safeguard the health of Applications/Tools managed by my team. This ensures optimal user experience and minimizes disruptions. Checkly's alerting system notifies us via email when any health check fails. This allows us to swiftly address potential issues and mitigate the impact on our users.

 ### 16. One of the best decision of our Tech Stack

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gaurav N. | Director of Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

Easy to use
Integrations
API checks are rock-solid
Heartbeats are a great addition

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

Pricing is a bit costly
Also, scaling up is possible only with an Enterprise plan which is not fun to deal with

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the core use cases is when a part of the system misbehaves, either goes down or degrades, we need to page the right time at the right moment. Checkly comes in handy with our engineering team to manage so many microservices easily.

 ### 17. All the production testing tools you wish you had time to build

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chetan M. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2024

**What do you like best about Checkly?**

The basics of automated production monitoring are easy, but the second you build your own (as I have twice) you see all the ancillaries that are hard to get right. Multiple test locations, testing multiple environments, dedicated dashboards, UI recordings for easier playwright debugging. Just awesome id id t have to build it all.

**What do you dislike about Checkly?**

Easy way to run locally via the CLI without setting up a remote location would be nice.

**What problems is Checkly solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Improved testing on our website and APIs

 ### 18. Chekly: Boosting start up ecosystem in Technology

It facilitates the management of my SLAs while involving the development teams with the CICD pipeline.
