What do you like best about Check Point URL Filtering?

Easy to use. Cheap compared to other vendors. You can use it at a separate application URL level as well as inline layer. URL Database is a well-known vendor and is updated regularly. It supports ssl sites and non-standard ports to analyze the URL traffic. It has regex support. Smartevent assists in analyzing the application and url policy. What do you dislike about Check Point URL Filtering?

URL Database is general. Checkpoint has an OEM agreement with 3rd party provider. Updates are not timely. Local sites can not be analyzed properly. You need to use inline layers for proper security otherwise, you can not lock the rule base. External list integration is problematic only R81 and higher supports gui based external lists. Use the latest firewall software to enable it. Entegrate it with smartevent to get the reporting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Creating group, customize categories,dynamically allow / block / limit access to users based on user-roles is completely possible.

What do you dislike about Check Point URL Filtering?

1) The working principle of Check Point URL filtering is far different from all other vendors in the market. It works in parallel with security rules. Every time packet must go from policy lookup into security rules and then for URL filtering. It sometimes leads to a troubleshooting phase.

1) Customers who don't have dedicated proxy servers or WAF can go with Checkpoint URL filtering.

2) With URL filtering, it has become possible to get granular control on the user's web traffic.

3) No need for any additional solution for this specific feature as Checkpoint has excellent control and configuration setup.
