We realized the connection count was quite high was creating latency for legitimate traffic. We logged a ticket with ThreatCloud Incident Response and an Expert was able to help harden the environment and prevent such traffic from bringing the network down. While more features can definitely help to prevent such attacks but I believe other solutions such as WAF can be bought to mitigate those. Needs internet access.
