Checkpoint NGFW is the "next generation" DOE. Its device is similar to UTM . UTM ( Unified threat management ) is a universal device that provides comprehensive protection against network threats. This technology has become a response to non-standard attacks that conventional options could not cope with. UTM combines many security related functions.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

On the “ Policies ” tab, it was not easy to configure policies in the following main areas: “ Access Control ” access control functions; functions related to intrusion detection; recognition and control of applications “ Application Detectors ”; file management; decryption of SSL traffic and others.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In addition to firewall functions based on the patented Stateful Inspection technology , it supports user authentication, address translation, content access control and auditing. **What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

As with any security process, there is a learning curve, but Check Point has always had detailed and easy documentation to learn from. The product has always been very stable, and on the very few times it reached a condition where the system had no idea what to do, it would send alerts quickly. We have been using the product since 2000 with no issues.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

There are still some very outlying options that you have to drop to a prompt and run a script on. While I understand that adding a gui sometimes can lower security, the once or twice a year I have to go to the prompt always involves much refreshing and reading before hand.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping the company secure from internet threats while providing a secure and fast onramp to the internet for the company. With so many business processes on remote internet-connected sites, having both security and speed to access those sites is critical.

  ### 10. Checkpoint as Genuinely next generation firewall

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sofia E. | Content Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The name speaks for itself - next generation firewall. This concept appeared much later than UTM. The main idea of NGFW is deep packet inspection (DPI) using built-in IPS and access control at the application level (Application Control). In this case, IPS is just what is needed to identify this or that application in the packet stream, which allows you to allow or deny it. Example: We can allow Skype to work but prevent file transfers. We can prohibit the use of Torrent or RDP. Web applications are also supported. Or we can allow facebook.com but not the games. Essentially, the quality of an NGFW depends on the number of applications it can define. Moreover, the security gateway itself, which is usually placed on the network perimeter and performs the functions of a firewall, streaming antivirus, anti-bot, IPS, etc.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

I expected more from smart console which is a client console for connecting to the management server (SMS). Typically installed on the administrator's computer. Through this console, all changes are made on the management server, and only after that you can apply the settings to the security gateways (Install Policy).

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its Network protection tools have been used in the construction of security systems. The main difference between next-generation network devices is the ability to work with network traffic at different levels of the OSI model, including layer 7 - applications. Check Point NGFW assisted us n data security as well.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mahedi H. | Jr. Network engineer, Computer & Network Security, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Simple installation wizard was helpful. I liked the way it was guiding its user to what to do next. Most of the firewall now have this but in case of checkpoint it was simple and easy to understand. Another feature i liked most was the security report generating. The security report is very informative and makes it easier for the administrator to get a clear picture of the premise.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

i think the log holding capacity of smb series could be improved a little bit although it's quite enough according to the device sizing but some customer always wants more. The device can be integrated with external log server, it's a plus point but as smb customers want all in one product they look for something which is capable of more than what the device can actually hold

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

If we focus on SMB-grade customers, we can see that they always look for an "all-in-one" type solution. In terms of that, the checkpoint has some exclusive models that meet all their requirements. From securing your network to delivering the best service! It centralizes the whole security posture and helps minimize the view. This way administrator gets a clear picture of what is going on with their network

One of the things is the cost of the firewall. Due to the way licenses work in the Checkpoint, we have faced some failed OS upgrades in the past. The licenses part need to be easier.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the biggest benefits is protecting against the Zero Day attacks. By Using MDS, Smart event, and Logging server it's a one-stop shop in the environment with advance IPS capabilities

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rakesh J. | Technical Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Hey, I was started working as a technical trainee 3 years back and during the entire journey I was working on Checkpoint Next Generation Firewall. After learning firewall technology I worked on Checkpoint firewall and experience was really good and helpful to build my carrier in network security field. As per my experience no other vendor can beat Checkpoint Firewalls.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

See while consider a firewall solution there are Pros and Cons. As per my experience I can say that checkpoint should work on add-on exception for threat prevention service like Anti virus and anti theft.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working as a security consultant I have gone through many vendors of Firewall. Every one has a unique highlighter but in case of checkpoint I really like Product stability when customer is concern about product preference.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

- plays a vital role in preventing security incidents, preventing malicious attempts to infiltrate the organization while quickly adapting and reacting to any attempts, like a few months ago Log4J vulnerability.
- easy to administrate and maintain,
- very granular Logs & Monitor section, also intuitive to use,
- good control and visibility over users identities and actions,
- provides central policy management, easy to manage and maintain,
- great performance tuning features, like SecureXL, CoreXL, HyperThreading, Multi-Queue

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The study material and training need to be improved and more accessible to security engineers working with Check Point.
Advanced troubleshooting and configuration might get a bit too complex for regular engineers compared with easy administration.
Encountered a few limitations when trying to accomplish simple tasks required by Customer, like changing a Domain name inside an MDS environment: missing function in the database which removes the domain object completely from the database.
Plenty of bugs not documented or with too generic error messages

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Check Point solution has improved the way the customer organization functions.
People work within the organization worldwide, across NALA, APAC and EMEA regions. Having Checkpoint as a security vendor made it easy to assure people to access the resources all over the place, from offices, homes and across the globe, especially during the pandemic.
E.g. one of the last implemented projects is replacing obsolete Client Auth solution with Identity Awareness, including integration to AVD.

  ### 20. Excellent and robust firewall technologies

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David G. | Network Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

I like how involved CheckPoint TAC has been involved in helping myself and my colleagues with troubleshooting OS or firewall blade issues we've encountered. I like how in-depth their logging technologies have come, as you can get pretty granular with log entries. I also enjoy how easy it is to create rules and cross-reference them to see if there are any conflicts, as I've made rules where there were multiple conflicts. I love their knowledge base and training courses, which helped me a LOT to gain my CCSA certificate. If you're looking for a company that specializes in state-of-the-art firewall technologies, I highly recommend CheckPoint products.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

If I had to choose one thing I dislike, it would have to be waiting for the next revison code to fix issues, as that can sometimes take too long. It would also be nice if we always got our cases reviewed as a priority as it's built into our contract, as we've had to wait a bit on a few of our cases.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CheckPoint is helping us solve issues we've had with our management server, as it has sometimes become quite taxed. It's also helping us be more aware of what is on our networks, allowing us more control and making things easier for our Information Security department.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

In older versions (< r81) installing policy was very slow, since we still are with r80.x build we still have to wait for some minutes for installing policy. Also the fact that not every feature are in the smart console they need to merge more features.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkpoint NGFW is helping us to protect our entire network from internal and external threats. It also permits us to connect to our organization with VPN with SSO from azure ad.

The log size for reporting is much bigger and takes much time to open. Also, inbuilt VPN is not as easy to use.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CheckPoint Next Generation provides a unified threat management tool for incoming and outgoing connections. Upgraded cloud secure remote system and unique user dashboard are also very easy to use.

  ### 23. Stable , Scalable and Feature rich

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

1.IPs/IDS Implementation - Initial implementation is straightforward with updates from checkpoints. Prebuilt security profiles are well defined and can be used out of the box with few tweaks and exceptions.
2.Reporting - Ease of creating reports on audit , IPS , and Firewall rules . Information presentation is presented in graphs and charts is easily presentable to top management.
Other functionalities like compliance reports that review your rule base with industry standards and report how well your organization does.
3.Feature rich - From basic network policies , application control , VPNs both site to site and remote access , application control and URL filtering.
Advanced features like sandboxing.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

1.Complexity in Upgrades - Currently upgrades are quite cumbersome . I would prefer the click of a button and process upgrades.

2.Pricing - The pricing is quite high as compared to other industry firewalls(cisco , Fortinet)

3.Documentation - I believe they have to improve on providing more documentation and examples for certain features online . In other sections it feels shallow and could use more information and examples.

4.Complexity in System Tweaks - There could be some knobs that need to be tweaked at the configuration files on the CLI which can be considered complex.

**Reviewed by:** Nijat S. | Project Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

I really like to use IPS in order to identify this or that application in the packet stream, which allows me to allow or deny it.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The fact that everything is combined within one UTM solution, which is easier in terms of integration, configuration, administration and monitoring, and this, in turn, has a positive effect on the overall security of the network.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I wouldn't say that it does me any good. But during work, if there is no time, it helps to reduce it.

It's easy to use - SmartConsole management is not difficult to learn. Many answers to questions are available to the public, and they have a dedicated community to support them.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Sometimes it's hard to get the right support engineer to help with the issue. Some tickets requiring a more profound understanding take a little too long before they escalate to the right person.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

URL filtering, IPS threat prevention, detailed logs, among others. I was impressed with the way Checkpoint handled the log4j vulnerability and made it effortless for us to update our IPS configuration to be protected from it.

  ### 27. Check Point, The Most Reliable Firewall Solution!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erdem E. | Technical Support Services Deputy Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Check Point is the most reliable firewall solution as far as I experienced. I already managed 4-5 different vendors and faced with a lot of different problems, inconsistent behaviours, dashboard problems and a lot of bugs and vulnerabilities to be fixed. However, Check Point did not give me a headache so far.
I also like the dashboard and easy presentation of rules, objects and logs.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

I only dislike the routing rule management aspect of the cluster systems. I need to define routes on both cluster members seperately. That's why sometimes I might forget to define a routing rule each both members. So, when I fail-over the system, because of a missing routing rule I have some connection problems.

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

There is no need to look for any other firewall vendor to have an adventure. Check Point is extremely widely used all around the world and these people know what they want.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This firewall vendor invited the stateful firewall terminology. So, it is always on the top of the list of best Firewall solutions. Financially, we have to pay some extra money compared with an average firewall solution. However, at the end of the day the income and benefits which it provides is already much higher than we pay. Our business performance has already been tripled with Check Point.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Sometimes we can face some performances problems. When you open IPS blade, you can loose performance. Maybe routin mechanism can be improved. We have to write route on each gateway seperately. If there is a missing route when cluster switch, problem occurs.

I like its features of intrusion prevention system, anti-virus, anti-bot, and URL filtering. It plays important role in preventing security incidents happened, and preventing it to become bigger problem

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

1. checkpoint NGFW separates the applications to configure the device into 2 applications. That is from web browser to configure network and from application to configure the policy. They should make it simpler for users to configure it.
2. users have to pay more for management module (smartevent)

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

make sure that the initial installation, setup, and configuration meet your actual need

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

After the R80, it underwent a big change. He completed his development in important parts that he saw lacking in himself. Especially after 81.40, operations on mngr are faster and policy install times are much shorter. In the past, we faced f/p situations and our need for opening cases decreased, and it became a more stable product.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

It has a screen called SmartDashboard, and it still hasn't been able to get rid of this screen. There is an impression that CPU spikes happen more often than other firewall manufacturers, but it should be tested in a one-to-one peer-to-peer environment. Dumping on a device with heavy traffic poses a risk to the user.

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

A normal firewall transition without S2S VPN structure is extremely simple and does not take time. It will be useful for you to test it by giving as much load as possible in the POC environment.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The basic features of being NGFW are very good. You can do partial work based on url. You have more options when preparing policy packages. It's nice to be able to do different types of operations on objects. Apart from this, of course, it can successfully meet the standard firewall needs.

We initially started using the checkpoint device for the VPN blade. After using the VPN blade for several months and using the hardware interface we found it very easy to use the unit was powerful and easy to set up. We started using the firewall and Nat shortly after that. Having additional features like the threat prevention that has IPS antivirus antibot and threat emulation we're all added bonuses. This also gives us a piece of mind for the safety of our business.

As a small business it expenditures are always a tough call and hard sell. With every business connected to the internet these days, firewall and threat prevention are very important for any business of any size. Checkpoint small business devices are a great fit for most any business. Including some sort of menu or grouping for VOIP would help the small business area that has limited support. Checkpoint support is very knowledgeable and can also help in this area as they've helped our business evolve as well.

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

Check your requirements and price points. Don't pick bare mins with a firewall, many threats out there and IPS will have many updates.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkpoint VPN has been the most valuable to our organization. Having a hardware solution, that allows our remote users to connect securely to our business extremely valuable. Usually, I may say, it was the Site to Site VPN configurations. There were a lot of settings or parameters to be configured and it's not easy for you to troubleshoot. But that also made it the best firewall. The security and the granularity of the configurations. The benefit I have realized is that, once you were able to familiarize all those significant settings/parameters/configurations, it would be easy for you to have it managed.
