Checkpoint NGFW is the "next generation" DOE. Its device is similar to UTM . UTM ( Unified threat management ) is a universal device that provides comprehensive protection against network threats. This technology has become a response to non-standard attacks that conventional options could not cope with. UTM combines many security related functions.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

On the “ Policies ” tab, it was not easy to configure policies in the following main areas: “ Access Control ” access control functions; functions related to intrusion detection; recognition and control of applications “ Application Detectors ”; file management; decryption of SSL traffic and others.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkpoint NGFW is set of modules that make up the core of any security system based on Check Point products . In addition to firewall functions based on the patented Stateful Inspection technology , it supports user authentication, address translation, content access control and auditing. ### 8. Checkpoint as Genuinely next generation firewall

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sofia E. | Content Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The name speaks for itself - next generation firewall. This concept appeared much later than UTM. The main idea of NGFW is deep packet inspection (DPI) using built-in IPS and access control at the application level (Application Control). In this case, IPS is just what is needed to identify this or that application in the packet stream, which allows you to allow or deny it. Example: We can allow Skype to work but prevent file transfers. We can prohibit the use of Torrent or RDP. Web applications are also supported. Or we can allow facebook.com but not the games. Essentially, the quality of an NGFW depends on the number of applications it can define. Moreover, the security gateway itself, which is usually placed on the network perimeter and performs the functions of a firewall, streaming antivirus, anti-bot, IPS, etc.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

I expected more from smart console which is a client console for connecting to the management server (SMS). Typically installed on the administrator's computer. Through this console, all changes are made on the management server, and only after that you can apply the settings to the security gateways (Install Policy).

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its Network protection tools have been used in the construction of security systems. The main difference between next-generation network devices is the ability to work with network traffic at different levels of the OSI model, including layer 7 - applications. Check Point NGFW assisted us n data security as well.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The study material and training need to be improved and more accessible to security engineers working with Check Point.
Advanced troubleshooting and configuration might get a bit too complex for regular engineers compared with easy administration.
Encountered a few limitations when trying to accomplish simple tasks required by Customer, like changing a Domain name inside an MDS environment: missing function in the database which removes the domain object completely from the database.
Plenty of bugs not documented or with too generic error messages

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Check Point solution has improved the way the customer organization functions.
People work within the organization worldwide, across NALA, APAC and EMEA regions. Having Checkpoint as a security vendor made it easy to assure people to access the resources all over the place, from offices, homes and across the globe, especially during the pandemic.
E.g. one of the last implemented projects is replacing obsolete Client Auth solution with Identity Awareness, including integration to AVD.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The setup is a little bit rough and requires some technical expertise however this is expected with a solution as complete as a firewall and specially a checkpoint one.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our main benefit was the elimination of a server/vm on our datacenter and the usage of a cloud solution.
Having all the features on the cloud was also a benefif because some products when migrated to cloud solutions lose some features but not his one

  ### 21. A good all-in-one Firewall solution

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Till R. | System administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

We've been using Check Point Firewalls for about 15 years, from the early Nokia boxes to the most recent OpenServer architecture. Next year we're finally going to upgrade to an appliance directly from Check Point. All in all, I'm delighted with their security solution. Making configuring numerous layers of security policies easy to use was always one of the things I liked most about their Firewall solution. You have multiple security layers that build upon each other, from the traditional security policy that is IP and port-based to application security, intrusion prevention and their latest sandblast Cloud-based malware detection. And everything is easily managed through their "SmartConsole" dashboard.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Sometimes debugging is a hassle. We've had issues with VPN debugging in the past, but in the more recent versions, later than R80.10, this seems not to be an issue anymore. This year we tried to debug performance issues of the gateways, which was cumbersome. When we finally found the performance bottleneck, it was a licensing issue. Check Point uses CPU-based licensing for OpenServer, and buying more licenses helped. However, this is the reason we're upgrading to Check Point appliances next year, as OpenServer becomes pricier every year and Check Point pushes their customers to use their appliances.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Check Point firewalls are one of the most easy-to-use complete firewall solutions on the market. They protect our LAN against intruders, offer VPN for site-to-site connections, and haven't had a major issue in about 15 years. While not being cheap, their pricing models are competitive.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

If you're looking for an enterprise/ robust NGFW, consider CheckPoint for its end-to-end solution & performance

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Check Point offers end-to-end solutions, the pricing is higher than other brands/ competitors in the market. However, reliability & visibility will cost you, hence CP proved it too

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Support cases take longer than expected and often find the need to escalate. Hardware-wise on the appliance, there are no issues. Licensing costs are high and doesn't feel like much of a ROI for added blades

  ### 27. CheckPoint NGFWs

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

It is one of the first firewalls to implement stateful inspection as we know it today, so we know that they have perfected this concept as years have gone on. It has always been a reliable solution backed by dedicated support teams and an incredible community of certified engineers.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

As much as the company is old, the ways of upgrading and applying hotfixes haven't changed. It is a tiresome process that could fail easily if all the steps aren't taken in an exact order.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides complete protection for a network. Comes with all the possible blades that could be needed in a working environment making their deployment pretty quick and easy.

  ### 28. Simplified Network Management And Powerful Network Protection Of Your IT Assets

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2021

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Good experience with overall configuration, implementation and troubleshooting. Implemented VSX solution and completed full network segmentation by provisioning a firewall context (VSX) for every security zone (LAN, DMZ, VPN, Management, UC, etc...). This provided a high level of protection and visibility of traffic

Firewall manager makes it easy to group firewalls based on their security zone (DMZ, VPN, etc..) and push policies in bulk to them. Additionally, using VPN communities, FW manager simplify VPN deployment and building Site-to-Site Mesh connectivity between our corporate offices.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

In some cases, some services can drive up CPU and cause performance issue. Also during our security team's Penetration Testing, some firewalls would generate alarms about packet loss and high CPU.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- It facilitated network support, discovering root causes of different issues, and general troubleshooting.
- Provided security segmentation for different network zones (DMZ, Wifi, UC, LAN, Border, etc...)
- Centralized/simplified management by using Firewall Manager

  ### 29. Secure next generation firewall

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Right from deployment, the checkpoint provides zero-trust security. The antivirus profiles are very powerful and they work well as we want. The throughput of the device after applying security profiles is also good compared with other firewalls. The defencing options of the checkpoint firewall are top-notch.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The command line of the checkpoint is difficult. We need to install other extra applications to manage the firewall . The cost of the checkpoint is expensive.

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

Recommended for high-budget organizations.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We checkpoint firewall in the head office of one of our clients as standalone mode. We were able to form a tunnel between checkpoint and firewall and another branch firewall to collect the logs from the branch through the IPsec tunnel. Users were able to connect the head office gateway using the checkpoint SSL VPN. The throughput of the firewall is good even multiple SSL VPN users connect.

  ### 30. MAESTRO & Virtualization

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The scalability of the MAESTRO system combined with the virtualization feature. Also the possibility to mix different hadware branches in one MAESTRO cluster (security group)

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The Checkpoint NGFW OS is a historically grown OS. It has been on the market for long time and many releases. So it is a very complex system. All features are done in software - no extra hardware chips are installed. Because of this, the NGFW OS is very prone to bugs - and the occurence of these bugs is a bit too often. They have a good support, but the bugs are very deep in the system - in 80% of the tickets I needed the L3 Support in Israel/USA.

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

If there are bugs - hope ;)

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are now in position to expand the needed ressources nearly in time. With the MAESTRO solution you are able to add different hardware types (since R81.10) to the cluster and let them act as one system. All load sharing and hardware reservation is done automaticly.
With the virtualization feature you don't need 5 hardware firewall instances anymore. You can manage them from the same Management Console and the ressources of your firewall cluster won't idle - they are always there, where you need them.

  ### 31. Checkpoint NGTX firewall review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jose Manuel G. | Network and security administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Centrally managed devices from one device, so ease of configuration
One of the best protections on the market with reasonably good price
I like the logs and reporting in Checkpoint. It have a lot of information that other vendors don't have

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

SMS normally is an application not web app so you have to install it in compatible devices (windows machines)
It's quite complex to understand some terms when you have no knowledge about the product

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are protecting our users against known and also unknown threats.
We are also using VPN blades to have remote connectivity to our datacenter via our users and also Site2Site VPNs with other parties.

  ### 32. Superior holistic management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2021

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Management integration is holistic as centralised management has been core to the solution for decades. Where other vendors have bolted management on over time, Check Point has always made it central to everything that they do.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Lack of local, in-state support. Competitor vendors have a strong presence in the Adelaide Market, but Check Point has always been limited with its commitment to staffing local technical resources.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work for a systems integrator and have designed and deployed solutions over many years with Check Point components. Problems solved with Check Point NGFWs have included securing the edge, data centre segregation, SWG replacement, Remote Access and many others.

  ### 34. Checkpoint NGFW Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

First of all, Checkpoint SmartCenter 80.40 has an excellent GUI. You can find about anything you want just at first glance.
Secondly, it has a great API structure and documentation. I use APIs a lot for batch rule generations, etc. We had some issues with
Identity Aware rules initially, but then, with the help of the Checkpoint engineers team, it got solved. Checkpoint's NGFWs are easy to use,
high functioning, and relatively stable products.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

We had some issues with Identity Aware rules, but thanks to support engineers at Checkpoint, the issue has been resolved. Other than that, Checkpoint NGFWs have some minor bugs compared to their peers. However, those bugs usually affect very specific traffic and do not cause major trouble in the environment.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it in our bank perimeter and in multiple layers. We have also been using IPS, SandBlast blades. Because it is the biggest private bank in Turkey, we do care about high-functioning and stable firewalls. Moreover, Layered Access control Rules are a great way to prevent unnecessary CPU loads. You write a general rule then layer the sub-rules under this primary rule. So that if traffic does not go through this main rule, it does not go through whole sub-rules which are not relevant to the main rule in vain. In that way, you skip maybe 1000 checks for a simple connection packet.

  ### 35. Using Check Point Application in a security policy

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2021

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Check Point App Control Software Blade is at the center of the Next Generation firewall.
The number of apps recognized is impressive : more than 8628 applications (as of October 2021).

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

It is not a dislike per se, but it should be noted that without HTTPS Decryption, most of App Control recognition features will be made useless, as everything is encrypted, so far.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deploying a comprehensive security policy in 2021 makes the Check Point Application Control software blade and the HTTPS decryption feature, mandatory.
It allows the network administrator to classify network usage and optimize bandwidth.

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The ease of management through smart dashboard with additional features like SmartLog. VSX functionality with which the device can support multiple virtuals. To add to the FW capability, all the additioal features to make it a Nextgen FW.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Some of the additional features are resource intensive and consume a lot of CPU and we have had a few outages with the device failing. Though we like to have more features, the focus should still be on stability and performance.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Checkpoint NGFW as the perimter security FW with multiple VS to support the different environments we have along with support of BGP. Checkpoints do a wonderful job with its VSX capability and is able to work well with Cisco Swicthes/routers when it comes to BGP.

  ### 43. Overall CP is good, however from past years I am seeing that the stability of the tool is not good

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The major positive of Checkpoint NGFW is its OS stability, unlike other Firewall OS, it's more stable and provides more visibility for configuration.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The more disliking factor for Checkpoint is still hard to configure.

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

If you feel security is more important than your money, pls go for it.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 46. more than 20 years usage

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Very easy to use, Best user interface and management in the firewall segment. It can be deployed from the small to large enterprises. Pricing is flexible. Innovative add-on modules can be added and activated. Performance is adequate. TP and IPS customization is great. Most of all company has the vision and commitment.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Firewall internal mechanism. Lots of code in the firewall core, As the codes grow by time, finding the problem is really hard. Performance issues especially compared to other vendors. Checkpoint does not use ASIC or special HW of ifs own, HWs are OEM. Especially in real world mixed traffic, counters are peak. 3rd party entegrations are tricky.

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

Start and deal with all the modules/add-on available to Checkpoint NGFWs. Believe ever module is woth to use. Deploy CMA or MDM. Use the latest version and install the layesy HFA. For the HW buy the latest models - GenVx; you will need the HW performance with ever module you'll open

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Main usage is perimeter defence and segmentaion . Audit findings and compliance issues are easily handled with the Checkpoint NGFW. Many deployments we are noy buying additional IPS/TP software, we just enable the TP modules. TP modules give high coverage of defense in terms of client and server protection. Visibility is the additional benefit, gui and reporting give high visibliity from user and traffic perspective.

  ### 47. NGFW provides the solution for the protection of companies of all sizes.

I like that the different blades provide protection for all points of attack and are focusing on protection in the cloud

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Although the Dashboard management console has most of the features integrated, there are still blades such as https inspection, mobile access and DLP that are managed from another console

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

Checkpoint are the pioneers of computer security, and their strength is that their solutions provide integrated tools and specialized support, are easy to manage, and their features provide protection for all points of attack.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Checkpoint's NGFW FWs provide me with visibility from multiple attack points, and the URL filtering feature gives me the ability to be specific in controlling the internal network. In addition, the Threat Emulation and Threat Extraction features are the solution to more sophisticated attacks.

Interacting user friendly Web and smart console interface. It is generally easy to configure and manage using Smartcenter policies management and Also smartlog solution is really helps to troubleshoot to any problem that we encounter. Also standalone zero trust security approach that helps our organization more safer. Smart console is the best gui when compared to other companies it is very easy to use it and it is much more secure when compared to web gui interface

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

Sonless and henge for the high ram utilities, time there is a hardware issues and the cpu utilities goes up and then console got heng, the throput not properly and some RMA on firewall devices(disks, NIC cards and etc), they should solve hardware problems as soon as possible

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

Data plan and every plan having different different ram.
I think that maestro is look like very sophisticated and it is the most important feature in next days, but firstly we should see how is worked and is it stable or not.

  ### 49. A very secure solution but with a long learning curve and missing some advanced features

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gilles L. | CEO // Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The overall security of the solution, most notably the IPS Software Blade, which is in my view one of the best in the market.
There are also less flaws in Check Point products compared to the competition.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The fact that so many tasks require the use of the CLI, especially all SecureXL, CoreXL commands.

The product stays behind in terms of features compared to the competition (no support for TLS 1.3, no ADVPN, no SD-WAN,...)

The pricing structure is somewhat complex to assimilate.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Check Point is best suited for large environements with advanced management needs. Not so much for smaller sites.

The reporting features from SmartEvent add real value to the product.

  ### 50. The best in the development of advances technologies

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David R. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

The use of Threat detection or the sandboxing technology I think that are betters than others firewalls manufactures. They provide scalability allowing multiples configurations of high availability, for example you can configure HA with the standar VRRP, or you can use ClusterXL technology or you can use the new Maestro technology.

**What do you dislike about Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)?**

May be the most traumatic experience with Check Point could be the upgrade process if you need to upgrade from very old versions, although the process has been improved

**Recommendations to others considering Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs):**

If you are looking for a firewall that help you with new threats attacks vectors Checkpoint is one of the best in class.

**What problems is Check Point Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the problem that Check Point are helping to solve is in detection of the unknown threats. CheckPoint can help security administrator to stop unknown attack in early stages preventing expensives damages.
