What do you like best about Check Point IPS (Intrusion Prevention System)?

IPS protections in Check Point Next Generation Firewall are updated automatically. Updates for signatures ranging as old as 2005 to as new as today can be found in the protection packages offered by CP. What do you dislike about Check Point IPS (Intrusion Prevention System)?

Resource utilization increases significantly when IPS is enabled which can lead to devices not performing as well as what one would expect after paying huge amounts specially when in testing mode(detect).

What do you like best about Check Point IPS (Intrusion Prevention System)?

I like that the security profiles, or protections in terms of Check Point, are constantly updated - their dedicated team works on adding the new threats 24/7!

It is also easy to activate the right profiles for you particular environment - all of them are grouped. We enabled profiles only for software and platforms we use (e.g. all the Linux, but none of the Microsoft etc.). The activation on the Gateways is done with the simple security policy installation. What do you dislike about Check Point IPS (Intrusion Prevention System)?

I have nothing to complain about - my experience with the Check Point Intrusion Prevention System software blade has been only positive, e.g. no performance issue or support cases to the vendor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Check Point IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) solving and how is that benefiting you?

The Check Point NGFWs is the main security solution we use to protect our company's DataCenter located in Asia, and the Check Point IPS software blade activated on the firewalls among the other security blades. In my opinion IPS is the most important feature to build up the modern Next-Generation Firewall solution, and what the Check Point provides is just right. The software configuration is simple and understandable - you don't have to be the security expert to enable and configure it. The number of profiles is amazing, definitely in top-3 on the market, if not the 1st. The Gateways doesn't suffer from the performance decrease - the CPU/RAM consumptions is almost the same after IPS activation - just make sure you enable only the profiles you really need. What do you like best about Check Point IPS (Intrusion Prevention System)?

1. I think the number of the IPS protections provided with the Check Point IPS is the highest among the solutions in this area.

2. All the IPS protections are tagged by software/products/solutions, so you may find and enable only the ones you need.

3. Constant updates of the IPS protection from the Check Point ThreatCloud - we have it scheduled on our Management Server to perform the updates every day.

4. Ability to make the exclusions of the files to avoid scans (whitelisting) - we use is to avoid scanning of the Kubernetes images uploaded to the public clouds, which may be big in size.

5. Flexible IPS policy - we have more strict rules for DMZ, and more relaxed one for Internal user VLANs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Check Point IPS (Intrusion Prevention System)?

Sometimes I see that the Management Server can't connect to the Check Point ThreatCloud and obtain the updates for IPS, Anti-Bot and Anti-Virus databases. I think it's caused by not sufficient resources for this system on Check Point side due to the big amount of the customers trying to get updated at the same time. Some CDN system should be implemented in between. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Check Point IPS (Intrusion Prevention System):

Don't enable all the IPS protections available - cherrypick only the ones relevant for software/products/solutions you use within the environment. It will help to decrease the performance impact of the IPS blade scans. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Check Point IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use the Check Point IPS software blade on our Next Generation Firewall to perform the additional checks of the traffic besides the basic L3/L4 checks (IPs, ports). IPS blade detects and blocks the attempts to explore the vulnerabilities in the operational systems and software, applying "the virtual patch" to the systems it's configured to protect by IPS policy and IPS protections enabled. For the offices, we scan the user traffic between the VLANs. For the datacenters, we have IPS enabled in DMZ to scan traffic from the Internet to our Web farms, serving in the way of WAF for LAMP stack. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
