When I face any issue in Sophos Firewall, or any networking problem, VPN error, or configuration doubt, I first explain the problem to ChatGPT in simple words and it gives me step by step troubleshooting guidance. Many times it gives me a direction that I did not think of myself, and that saves me a lot of time compared to searching randomly on Google or going through long forum threads. Documentation work is another area where it helps me a lot. Earlier, writing network reports, incident reports, or SOPs (standard operating procedures) used to take me hours because I am not naturally good at writing long formal content. Now I just tell ChatGPT what happened or what I want to explain, and it converts my rough points into a proper professional document. This has honestly cut my documentation time by more than half. What used to take 2-3 hours now takes less than an hour. Email writing and replies is something I use daily too. Being a technical person, sometimes I struggle to write emails in a proper professional tone, especially when replying to clients or management. ChatGPT helps me correct my email language, make it polite and clear, and sometimes even suggests better wording. This has actually improved how my emails are received by seniors and clients, I get fewer follow up questions now because my explanations are clearer. Another big use case for me is learning and interview preparation. Since I am in the networking and security field, there is always something new to learn, new attack types, new firewall features, new compliance rules. I ask ChatGPT to explain difficult topics in simple language, and it breaks down complex things like BGP, VPN tunnelling, zero trust, or firewall rule logic into easy to understand points. When I was preparing for interviews, I used it to practice mock questions and answers, and it helped me build confidence before facing real interviews. An unexpected benefit I found is that it also helps me with small daily doubts that I would otherwise feel shy to ask colleagues, like basic Excel formulas, PowerPoint formatting for reports, or even how to phrase something in a meeting. It is like having a patient teacher available 24 hours who never gets tired of my questions. I also use it for comparing products, for example when I wrote my Sophos Firewall review, I used ChatGPT to organize my real experience into a proper structured review instead of writing it randomly. What do you dislike about ChatGPT? Even though I depend on ChatGPT a lot, there are a few things that I feel could be better, though these are not big enough to stop me from using it daily. The first thing is that sometimes it gives information that is slightly outdated, especially for very recent product updates or very specific version based technical details, like a new firmware update in Sophos Firewall or a new feature just released. In those cases, I still need to cross check with the official website or community forums. This is a genuine limitation because it cannot always know the most recent changes happening in real time. Second, sometimes when I ask very specific technical configuration questions related to a particular device or software version, the answer is a bit generic and I have to ask follow up questions to get to the exact solution I need. It would be more helpful if it could sometimes ask me clarifying questions first before giving a long answer, so that I don't have to correct it later. Third, for very deep technical troubleshooting where logs and screenshots are involved, it becomes a bit limited, because explaining a complex firewall log purely in text takes time, and sometimes the back and forth conversation becomes long before we reach the actual solution. Fourth, regarding pricing, I feel the paid plan is a bit costly for individual professionals like me, especially in India, considering the currency conversion. I understand the value it provides is high, but if the pricing was slightly more affordable for personal professional use, more people like me would upgrade comfortably. Before I started using ChatGPT regularly, I used to struggle with a few real problems in my daily work life. I was not very confident in writing, I used to take a long time preparing documentation and reports, and whenever I faced a new technical issue that I had not seen before, I used to spend a lot of time searching multiple websites and forums before getting a clear answer. We struggled with slow documentation work, but now I can complete the same reports in almost half the time, which has resulted in more time available for actual hands on network and firewall work. We struggled with unclear or unprofessional sounding emails, but now my emails are more polished and clear, which has resulted in better communication with clients and management, with fewer misunderstandings and follow up clarifications. We also struggled with slow troubleshooting for new or unfamiliar issues, but now I get a starting direction almost immediately, which has resulted in faster resolution time for many small to medium network and firewall issues, sometimes cutting my troubleshooting time by almost 30 to 40 percent for common problems. On a personal level, before using ChatGPT, I used to feel less confident about my English writing and communication skills, especially since I come from a technical background and not from an English medium education background always. Now, because I get consistent help in correcting my language, I have slowly improved my own writing and communication skills over time, which is a long term personal benefit beyond just using it as a tool. It has also helped me a lot in continuous learning, since networking and security field keeps changing with new threats and new technologies.
