Chargebee is a good product that fits just what we needed. I appreciate that it allows us to send quotes, and clients can directly pay there. It's really useful for our software as a service company as we use it to consolidate billing and collect all payments, making it easier for us to understand the finances of our company. They do not respond to my emails. Their billing department doesn't get back to me, and they shut down my account access without giving me a notice or a phone call. We have been using Chargebee since 2018 and have a pretty deep integration with them. Very flexible to build the billing logic needed for your business. It used to be pretty good : quick answers, easy access to knowledgeable people, etc. but bugs have grown more common and the level of support (while our spending has increased a lot over the years) is just not there anymore. Right now I have a ticket open with a button not doing anything. I keep getting an error about a process being unable to run. I met with their Engineering team 3 times and still have not heard anything. Right when you build out a smooth process and everything is working for you, Chargebee upgrades the UI. Chargebee moves their RevRec reporting, and they have suddenly changed retroactively so that "they could be more precise." Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Chargebee simplifies the complex task of managing recurring subscriptions, automating billing processes, and handling various subscription-related tasks, allowing us to focus on core operations and customer relationships. Although they have different billing options, creating invoices with non-standard terms is not very flexible. Their only option is creating a one-time invoice, but the description is just a one-liner. You can't break out the start date, end date, quantities, amounts. it's just one thing for one total. As a product-led growth leader in a B2B SaaS company, I've had high hopes for Chargebee, given its positioning as a comprehensive billing solution. One thing I genuinely appreciate about the platform is the range of integrations it offers with other software services. While Chargebee touts itself as a powerful tool, my experience with it hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows. Frankly, I've found Chargebee to be a pain in the... well, you know. I'll break it down into a few key points. First the complexity. As someone coming from a background using Stripe Billing, I was astounded by the steep learning curve and time-consuming setup required for Chargebee. It demands significant effort to configure and maintain, which translates into resources that we could have allocated to other growth initiatives. Second, the user interface leaves a lot to be desired. The dashboard feels cluttered and convoluted, making locating the functionalities I need difficult. In comparison, Stripe Billing is a breath of fresh air with its intuitive UI. Lastly, the pricing structure can be pretty unfriendly. It seems like extra costs are lurking around every corner. Add-ons, month-to-month billing, and even some essential functions add up quickly, often to a discouraging total. I can't give Chargebee more than a 4/10 when recommending it to friends or colleagues. Unfortunately, in seeking simplicity and ease of use while also tackling the complexities of billing and subscriptions, I believe there are better options for B2B SaaS companies. What problems is Chargebee solving and how is that benefiting you? 1) Subscription management: Chargebee streamlines the process of managing various subscription plans by providing a platform where you can create, modify, or cancel subscriptions as needed. This can help organize subscription tiers and handle customer subscriptions with minimal fuss, but as I mentioned earlier, it comes with a steep learning curve. 2) Invoicing and billing: The platform automates invoice generation which, in theory, saves time and reduces human errors. However, as previously mentioned, the complex setup and UI can hinder the efficiency of this feature. 3) Tax management: Calculating taxes for different countries can be a real headache. Chargebee offers an automated tax calculation feature for global billing, which considers different tax regulations and rates. This is a notable benefit and one less burden for our team, yet it doesn't overshadow the platform's overall complexity and inefficiency in other areas. 4) Reporting and analytics: Chargebee provides insights and reports on revenue, subscriptions, churn rates, and more. This can be valuable for tracking business performance and guiding data-driven decisions, but the same information can often be obtained through other platforms—platforms that may be less cumbersome to navigate. In summary, while Chargebee does address some essential challenges in the billing and subscription space, the benefits it offers, in my experience, have been overshadowed by the complexities and frustrations of using the platform. Since the whole point of adopting a new system is to streamline processes and achieve efficiency, I find it challenging to appreciate the platform's benefits entirely. To add them you have to pay extra. The sales people are very rude when you ask why you should pay for something that should be in the basic plan. The Chargebee API and SDK. It was so easy to integrate the javascript SDK in to our app - took us literally a day and most of that time was spent configuring package options / pricing tiers that we were going to send to Chargebee. We also utilised the API to auto setup customers that had signed up and keeping that information up to date. Also, allowed us the flexibility to have Stripe and GoCardless without needing to change any code on our site. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Chargebee? The Admin UI can be a little clunky on times but once your used to using it you don't notice so much. Some features in the top pricing tier of Chargebee didn't seem to warrant such a big package - we upgraded just so we could have Quotes. The support for Chargebee is literally non-existent. I logged a support ticket with them on the 3rd of Feb - was told a customer success manager would contact me. I've chased numerous times and I'm still awaiting a response... Recommendations to others considering Chargebee: I highly recommend Chargebee if your looking to streamline subscription management and integrate with multiple payment gateways. What problems is Chargebee solving and how is that benefiting you? Chargebee allows us the flexibility of integrating with multiple payment gateways - Stripe and GoCardless. We only need to do one integration with Chargebee so if we ever decide to change payment gateway or if the payment gateway change their API, then I don't need to worry about it. Chargebee can handle it all and my code stays the same. Dunning management is a really handy feature of chargebee - auto retrying a failed payment card rather than us manually intervening.
