Celtx is arguably the best *free* choice for screenwriting and project management. It formats scripts intuitively and allows you to use the index cards and storyboard features for free as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Simply put: the paywall. All the best features, like offline use, are blocked beyond the expensive paywall that forces you to pay annually for a whole bunch of other features you don't actually need. Have more than 3 scripts you'd like to work on? Paywall. It's an annoying hindrance to really making use of the platform even as a beginner. Also, the free apps you can download for iOS suck, there's a separate one for each section of a project (Script, Index Cards, Storyboard) and they all glitch, constantly. Celtx is a great and consistent screenwriting software. Even the shift to the online-based Celtx from the previous hard drive program isn't too different. Users can easily save their scripts in progress and share and save them to their computer. The yearly membership prices aren't too expensive and they vary based on the user needs. I think, when you writing on celtx you feel like you are flying with your word. Feel like very smooth and best thing is when you stop writing celtx save your words automatically. Highlights words, story to Screenplay, props list, storyboard, convert into PDF format, add your comments, share with your friends, add your name and also watamark, lots of things I love. I dislike that they have (in the past few years) moved from an all in one approach to a multi-app cloud based design. There used to be a lot more functionality to break down your script, attach notes and storyboards, character descriptions, scheduling, and much more. I used to Celtx as my production management software, and it worked great. I wouldn't mind paying to have all of that functionality, but they broke it all up and took a lot of functionality away.
