We appreciate that Caspio can't have totally variable licensing features offerings - but some capabilities, such as being able to select and create a "PDF", rather than a print stream, for a target record, would be very valuable. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are creating a 'first of its kind' information system to help a non-profit Foundation collect, manage, and share historic cemeteries' decedent information with the public and researchers. Caspio tools enable non-IT personnel and consultants to do rapid design, prototype, refine and deploy of the initial Cemetery Information System, and quickly enhance the platform while it is being used every day by Administrators and the Public. Caspio is hands down my top choice for low-code solutions. The platform works very well which is of course important, and the ability to do advanced customizations makes it so that Caspio can handle almost any project I can envision. What really sets Caspio apart, though, is the quality of the support experience, which is the very best of the various software companies I work with. Every single one of the technicians I've spoken with has been knowledgeable and helpful and friendly. It seems like several of the support staff aren't based in the US, which in other companies might be a challenge due to language barriers, but not so with Caspio - everyone I've spoken with speaks perfect English and they are all very bright and capable. Shoutout to Luis and Mary and Christian and Carlo and Volodymyr and the other techs I've worked with - top notch support!!! I'm super impressed with the speed of response, too - within moments of starting a chat session I am working with someone to resolve my issues. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** The platform uses something called datapages, which is a uniquely Caspio way of doing things, and it took a little getting used to. Now that I'm more comfortable with it, I find that I actually prefer it in many ways to other tools I've used. Certain advanced database features aren't available, such as UNION queries, but that's probably a good thing from a speed perspective. It does make you reimagine how you're going to build things, and what I've found is that there's almost always a workaround that allows you to move forward, probably even better than what was originally intended. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** I've used Caspio to build some full-fledged business management applications for customers. For example, I got a call on a Thursday evening from a men's homeless shelter with an emergency need. Their previous software had gone down and was unrecoverable, and they were now unable to keep track of their guest checkins. By Monday morning I had a new solution developed, and by Thursday morning. less than a week after getting the initial call, I was able to put the new system in place, tested and with all their previous data imported. They liked it so well that they had me expand it to accommodate their Women's Center, and then I added on a whole new Point of Sale functionality to manage their Thrift Store as well. The whole project cost less for them to have developed using Caspio than what their annual support cost them for their previous software. ### 3. Fast rollouts of updates for your users. Endlessly customizable with javascript and css and a REST api that can connect to the outer internet. Lots of helpful features beyond the basic database and its forms and reports (scheduled tasks for data, import/export data, Stripe and PayPal integration, AWS and Zapier integration, etc.). Caspio is a fully featured platform that can be as easily or complexly developed as your needs require. The company: Excellent account and technical support (at least for corporate accounts, which is my only experience). I feel like Caspio is part of my business's team--I can count on them to quickly address issues as they come up and find solutions I'm sometimes unable to see myself. Their ticket support is the best I've seen on any platform. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** There's not a lot to dislike, but I do wish the pricing was more flexible, depending on what kind of business and app is used. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** Caspio makes it possible to create a fully realized web app with paying customers, with minimum investment. CASPIO seems to work best when deployed via a hosted sight. I got started in Quickbase years ago and liked their built-in dashboard options. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** Caspio allowed me to ditch the multitude of Excel spreadsheets used when I joined the company I work for now. Excel is a great first step, but CASPIO allowed me to take our client services to a higher level. I have coded from scratch in the past but don't have time to build full data structures myself. As a small service business, I have been able to build a completely custom operating system for our company...all while still operating our business. Caspio helps me reduce my time to market by giving me standard tools to work with but still allowing quite a bit of flexibility. I also really like Caspio's support lately. It's amazing to be able to chat with a really knowledgable agent and get real answers quickly. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** The only thing I wish Caspio would improve on is some of their UI components. A stronger card based interface and tables that have a more modern look-n-feel would be a welcome addition to their current offering. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** Caspio helps me standardize my data structures and provides simple ways to deploy new features in my application. One of the things that is super beneficial and that I overlook often is the fact that using Caspio technologies essentially means that my software has no bugs! At the time, there were few options for someone with very limited IT and no coding experience. Caspio was affordable, offered the platform and informational tutorials that allowed me to do that. That database is still being used. There have been modifications over the years but it has been very reliable with no issues. Everyone at Caspio has always been friendly, willing to help and knowledgeable whenever I have had questions. Their kindness and patience in explaining things at a novice level was and is very much appreciated. I recently contacted customer service, Kurk was prompt, eager to help, answered my questions and went the extra mile to assist me. The database was unusual as it involved the biological classification of fish parasites and the fish species affected. The database had to allow the incorporation of fish samples and their location in the UK, so a complex system. Throughout the design and subsequently, the team at Caspio have resolved any issues speedily. Most of the issues were of my own making, and concerned my poor knowledge of database systems. The search engines which have been incorporated into the design are brilliant, allowing a search for parasite species, the fish hosts, size of parasites, location. This is a fantastic tool, accessing data for research purposes. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** There is nothing I have disliked about the Caspio build of my database, I'm very happy with the service I've been given. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** Until the mid-1990's knowledge of fish parasite distribution was undertaken by publishing in a variety scientific journals, which resulted in the information being widely distributed and with limited access. The use of an electronic database allows historic and current records to be located on a single, accessible platform. The ability to easily add data, drill down on information on either parasites or the fish hosts is fantastic. The database is providing information that will be used to understand the distribution of non-native invasive species, provide a base line for the native parasites. The information will provide the basis for further research projects. ### 39. We've done some highly complicated UX stuff with it - not as much complex DB stuff but it has all the expected SQL functionality. There is a REST API which we are just starting to use. Overall love the product. We were able to bring on inexperienced developers and get them up to speed very fast using the Caspio community forum, help documentation and online chat support. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** 3 things. 1) the pricing for the HIPAA compliant environment is a little high and may price smaller projects out of the market. 2) Their professional services stay in their lane and what I mean by that is they have some really cool stuff but they want you to buy their services instead of sharing their insights, if it were my company I'd offer that as an incentive to use the product. 3) Security is by 3rd party cookie (as is almost everyone else in this space) - they'll need to figure out a way to adopt that as Google Chrome moves away from supporting that. I think (hope) that Google continues to drag their feet. Apple already does this on Safari so to make use of native Caspio you have to instruct Safari uses to explicitly enable 3rd party cookies. **Recommendations to others considering Caspio:** In reading this forum, I noticed a lot of you looking for knowledgeable resources. The Caspio platform is quite similar to other low code environments and we had no trouble finding both onshore and offshore talent that could quickly become proficient in Caspio. We did not use many of the graphics functions but we did have extensive UX requirements across various screen sizes. The open coding structure allows easy integration of custom css and JS so we were able to make the platform work for pretty much all our specifications. The out of the box examples are just the beginning of what you can do with Caspio as a framework, but remember to document that custom code well (as you would do on any platform). **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** We've built a business application that tracks medical procedures enabling a large practice to better comply with HEDIS standards. We built a couple of different scheduling apps - some of them requiring HIPAA level privacy. We built a complex provider selection application that supports a group of businesses that self-insure. This enables their employees to get discounted surgical, imaging, lab and PT services. Saves money for both employer and employee. The big benefit for us was economically building applications. We think we saved over $1M in labor costs building out 6 applications over 2 years if comparing to a similar quote on a native cloud platform. ### 41. If you are not an SQL whiz they got you covered with powerful click & drag elements that allow to build pretty complex SQL commands. We have never had a problem with deployment on our sites and it provides fast DB access. Just be sure to normalize your database! The ability to embed JS and HTML within HTML BLOCKS has been a tremendous benefit for us as well. With these options there really is very little you can't accomplish within your datapages. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** Caspio's trigger and task development environment can be challenging when you begin to develop beyond basic DB tasks. We have found that variables are not your friend in this environment as they tend to really "bog" down the performance of development. Caspio places limits on how many cascading "triggers" can occur within each script and this has caused us some headaches in working around this limitation. An update to the task and trigger environment last year improved performance tremendously but subsequently, there are quirks now in the interaction of the canvas. For instance - after working within the trigger or task canvas for a while a shadowy blur will begin to cover areas that you have worked on. While this does not prevent you from continuing it is very distracting. Regarding the overall management of your assets, you cannot create folders for any of your assets except for datapages. It would be beneficial to be able to organize all of your assets into folders as larger apps will encompass dozens of tables, views, localizations, styles, etc. You also cannot create dynamic global variables. They have to be static only. This means you cannot set a variable in one trigger and access it from another. This could be a limitation of SaaS development but for us, old school developers, it has been frustrating. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have developed a Scheduling and Resource management system for the medical industry using the Caspio platform. While it has had its challenges we feel this platform was a good choice for us even with its sometimes head-scratching limitations, as you really can get things done quickly. it is a low-code environment and those imitations do get in the way sometimes but we have been able to work around most of these. On the other hand, it is the low-code design that has allowed us to get many functions completed much quicker in addition to having less experienced developers assisting us. Once you get used to the concepts and get over the realization that you have to develop within a very structured environment, there is very little you could not accomplish. Support - While the user community support forum is hit or miss on getting assistance, Caspio's support team has always been very responsive with the exception of just one issue that they keep telling us "they are working on". That issue is not affecting our development efforts, however. Product Management is responsive and pricing, while cleverly designed to get the most $ out of you as possible, is still reasonable IMO. ### 42. We can make changes to data pages with ease, preview them, and see if the change we did works, and then re-tweak it to make sure it's correct. It is reasonably fast and doesn't seem to bog down much at all. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** It is hard to find developers who understand all of the ins and outs of Caspio. While the basic stuff has a very small learning curve, finding where to do things *, i.e., lookup tables*, calculated fields, and some other platform nuances, are unique and challenging. Even 'seasoned' and experienced Caspio developers have issues at times that are frustrating to resolve. The Caspio support is helpful in most cases, but sometimes they are not as thorough as they should be. In our particular case, we had a unique authentication issue. We had written support and got a very dismissive and vanilla answer to the problem. Our three developers could not resolve it for the life of them, and it was causing issues with registering our users. As our business is growing dynamically, this is problematic. Luckily for us, we got a new account rep, and she just happened to 'check-in on us' when taking over for a colleague. She was AMAZING. She tasked a senior developer who did a screen share with us not 24 hours later, and we resolved a HUGE issue in less than an hour. Overall, it is a great platform, but even those familiar with it are not completely familiar with it, and at times you will need to find a good support liaison to solve some issues. Caspio is great in many ways. One more thing that is a bit disappointing is their front-end tools/widgets. IF Caspio could integrate something like JOT FORMS front end-user tools, it would be hands down the best solution ever. You can use javascript for some of these things, but that typically brings in yet another developer. Ugh.. **Recommendations to others considering Caspio:** make sure you are prepared to have your developers experience a learning curve with the nuances of the platform. If they are the type that doesn't like to ask for help, you will struggle. Mightly. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** Health care-related EHR systems issues and patient management. It's HIPAA compliant and, most of the time, very easy to get something working very fast. ### 43. We don't need to be programmers with Caspio, just reasonably-good database users. We have created several client-facing applications and internal systems for management tasks. Features such as workflow and email automation gives us the ability to deploy high-quality, high-functionality sites and instantly make changes. If we were paying a developer for this work, we could not afford it, in terms of time and dollars. Caspio has an amazing set of features and has just improved every year in the 8 years we have been using the system. It is our "go-to" application for any new ideas and we are constantly amazing ourselves with the flexibility and functionality of Caspio. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** A bit of a learning curve to get up to speed, but it is not too bad. If you have good Access skills, you can generally figure out Caspio. To build advanced functionality, it helps if you have some JavaScript experience. Caspio does not document ALL that you can do, however, the online community is very supportive and helpful. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are managing data collection and presentation sites for our financial benchmarking products. We are a small organization and do not have full-time web developers, but Caspio gives us the ability to do the work ourselves. Turnaround times are rapid, and we can deploy professional web applications without requiring external resources. We could not afford to hire out to get the functionality that Caspio provides. We have also created a process management site for working with an all-remote team to control our processes. Caspio's workflow capabilities help us ensure that our processes run automatically with no manual routing. The most significant benefit from Caspio is that once we started using the system on a small task, we could see more cases where we could use Caspio to expand our business. We now look for how we can leverage Caspio to create new products for sale to our clients. ### 44. I was able to get up and running within a couple of weeks of training. Online videos and how-tos were beneficial. I looked at several other options and am happy with my decision. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** My only issue is how it is integrated with the web front end. It does not work well with content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, etc.). They recommended that I use straight html rather than a CMS; however, this does add some overhead. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** I need a rapid development tool that does not require extensive coding experience. I did not want to hire developers to accomplish what I needed. I built a solution within a couple of months, and I can build POCs rapidly. ### 46. I have to do a lot of copying and pasting (if I am not doing an import). There is also a lot of scrolling across the screen -- I want to be able to hide columns in my tables when working on the backend tables. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have been able to create searchable databases for internal company information using various dashboards. We have been able to easily do reporting on large amounts of data. Adding and removing users is very easy as well. ### 47. I do not have experience with competitors, but after working with the platform for a year and a half, I have no interest in seeking other solutions at this time. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** There are a few drawbacks, such as triggered actions not functioning with bulk imports, however this is something that I believe is on the horizon. Import automation is a bit clunky but I imagine the Caspio team is working to improve this portion of the platform as well. **Recommendations to others considering Caspio:** Some data modeling and DB administration concepts are helpful, but truly anyone can begin using this product. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our organization's entire DB structure lives in Caspio, as well as our internal portal. And can easily be integrated into a published website. I like the fact that there is a huge amount of training, and how-to videos. Caspio is pretty intuitive and any time I run into an issue I have been able to get customer support to help me through the issue in a reasonable time frame. **What do you dislike about Caspio?** Lets say you need to add a question to a form. It automatically goes to the bottom of the form. Then you have to click the up arrow to move that question up one row at a time. On long forms this becomes really redundant and cumbersome. If I could easily add a question to the middle of a form by dragging and dropping that would be great. Or if I could select multiple questions at once and move them all at once that would also be great. **What problems is Caspio solving and how is that benefiting you?** I needed to rapidly build a database that people could sign up to and enter various types of data. I needed to do this with no other team members and for very little overhead. I have been able to do that.
