We are a small nonprofit using an external hard drive to share files between 2 computers in the office. One day it crashed and we weren't able to recover the files. Now we use Carbonite which is peace of mind for me and I love that I can now access files from home--using their mobile app (especially for unexpected snow days). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Carbonite Safe? Initially it put green arrows on all the files that were backed up. While that was helpful to see what wasn't being backed up, it became too distracting. Thankfully they had an option to turn that off and that's been great. Also, occasionally I get a message that the files didn't backup for some reason but its easily fixed. The app has been more of a challenge though. I feel it could be easier to access our files. They tend to be hidden in the file structure that shows up--but that could just be an issue on our end on how we have our folders set up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. The app can go a bit crazy with the notifications. I wish there was a setting to reduce them. The one that's within the program, and I get about 3 pop-ups a day from it. You can basically set it and forget it and if something goes wrong, Carbonite will let you know. I use this for my desktop backups as our primary backup is server only. The best part about this software is how easy it is to set up. You simply choose the folders and files that you want on the cloud, and it will automatically upload them whenever they are changed. It's a nice system, and was one of the first that could back up to the cloud in this way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Carbonite Safe? We have many clients that use various backup methods, so I've worked with many different configurations. I will say that the Mac support is really minimal. The software requires reinstallation sometimes, and backups will not go through for a week at a time until you find out there's a problem. Aside from Macs, the restore process takes way too long. If you use the web interface to restore, good luck - the web page will time you out during the upload, which effectively cancels the upload and you have to start over. So that means if you are restoring large files, you need to click in the window every 5 minutes so you don't get logged off. I haven't restored for a while, but when I did the bandwidth was extremely slow even though on my end it is very fast. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering Carbonite Safe: Look more at other software. Carbonite has a lot of competitors. If all you are concerned with is price, Carbonite may be what you're looking for. But, if you have large files, you may want to consider a different alternative. I like that I can set a timer and that there is plenty of flexibility in the application (i.e. cloud migration) Additionally, I use it for internal cloud backup - it works very well this way. I have not experienced any problems with the software itself, however it can be expensive - depending on the size of your organization.
