## Canto Reviews
 ### 1. Efficient DAM Platform with Easy Navigation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sheena W.

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Canto?**

I really appreciate Canto's robust DAM platform with its AI metadata tagging, which makes organizing and managing content easy. My favorite features are the portals, which save me a lot of time and make it so I don't need a team of people to manage everything. I also switched to Canto from another product because it's much easier to navigate. The initial setup was very easy, which was a big plus.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

I would love if there was a way to mount Canto to a desktop to make uploading and downloading more streamlined - so I could create automations for moving files.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canto is a robust DAM platform that offers AI metadata tagging and makes content easily accessible to clients. It saves me time and reduces the need for a team to manage everything, providing an easy way to organize and manage content.

 ### 2. Good Asset Management with Room for AI Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa T.

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Canto?**

I use Canto for managing our company's product images and marketing materials. It provides one place for all of our assets, which is really convenient. For the most part, I think it's pretty easy to use. The initial setup was fairly easy because my boss and I had used it at a previous company.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

A lot actually. The AI does not work at all for us. Are images are mainly stuffed animals, and AI does not recognize them at all. It created problems for us and we actually turned the AI assistant off. It also lags. When we upload images, they don't often show up in the album we put them in. That can be frustrating.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canto to manage our company's product images and marketing materials, giving us one place for all our assets.

 ### 3. Canto XI Makes Asset Management Easy, But Upload Permissions Could Improve

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amy W. | Applications Support & Project Analysis, Non-Profit Organization Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

What I love about using Canto is the ability to easily configure your digital asset management library in the best way for your end users. Their recent release of Canto XI has made finding and downloading assets easier, and I'm excited to continue our implementation and roll out these features to our organization.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

The only limitation we've seen with Canto is the requirement of power user seats for uploads. They do have the upload link option for "guest" uploads, but it's not very scalable for managing large amounts of upload personas without Contributor licenses.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have assets all over and with no organization -- no one knows how to find things. We know we're losing assets that could be good, and we have difficulties with "democratizing" access to our assets.

**Official Response from Reagan Cola:**

> Hi Amy, we spent a lot of time on Canto XI to deliver tools and features that provide the best user experience, and we’re happy to hear it makes finding and downloading assets easier for you.

We also appreciate your feedback on upload permissions and will be sharing this with our product team. Thank you for being part of the Canto Community! – Reagan

 ### 4. Useful for Content Organization, but Setup Challenges

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrea M.

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Canto?**

I like the tagging and facial recognition features in Canto. The AI works fairly well.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

The facial recognition process is a little more complicated to use than Google Photos. It can’t do facial recognition well from video, which is annoying when video is the only content I have of that person. The initial uploading process was pretty rough, with crashes partway through, requiring restarts. The setup was not easy with initial uploading failing multiple times and needing a lot of Canto support.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canto for storing, organizing, and sharing photos and videos. It helps me organize and find content more easily, maximizing existing content.

 ### 5. Cloud storage is great, but content separation and Connector issues hold Canto back

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Canto?**

The fact that we don't have to take up memory on our own servers with this data.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

We have more than one team using Canto, and it's difficult to separate our content without making folders private...and making folders private is often problematic on the app because it will delete things. Also, the Canto Connector is far from perfect. We've had multiple issues with it: losing connection, corrupt files, difficulties sharing a file from one computer to another.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's allowing the sales team to share project photos with marketing. Helps when we are in need of new images for our marketing assets.

**Official Response from Reagan Cola:**

> Hi there, thanks for sharing this. We’re glad to hear that moving to cloud storage has been helpful for your team.

The challenges around content separation and the Connector sound frustrating. Issues like file behavior and connection stability shouldn’t be getting in your way, and that’s important feedback for our team. If you’re open to it, our support team can take a closer look at what you’ve been experiencing at canto-support@canto.com.

Appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! - Reagan

 ### 6. Setup Challenges Mar Accessibility Benefits

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian V. | Director, Web and Digital Marketing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

I find Canto to be beneficial in my role primarily due to its ability to help identify and locate assets quickly. This feature is particularly valuable for our team as it enhances our efficiency in accessing files. I am also optimistic about the future potential of Canto to be very valuable to our team once we create dedicated portals for partners and internal departments to access files, which would streamline our operations significantly. Moreover, I appreciate the filter features in Canto; however, it does require correct tagging and labeling of assets from the beginning to function effectively. Despite the challenges we face, I hold a favorable view that once Canto is fully set up, it would stand as one of the better options for digital assets management.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

{"I find bulk uploading of assets in Canto to be challenging, as it seems to require a manual process without support for bulk uploads.","I dislike that there is insufficient support or resources from Canto to assist with the setup and uploading process, making us consider hiring additional manpower.","The platform is labor-intensive, particularly when it comes to labeling and tagging assets, which affects the ease of asset retrieval.","I am concerned that there is a discrepancy between what was promised and what was delivered with Canto, as my team felt we weren't aware of this limitation until after purchase.","I find it difficult to create unique portal experiences due to a lack of support, which limits our ability to effectively share files with partners and internal departments."}

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Canto beneficial for quickly finding assets and believe it will be valuable for team collaboration once portals are fully set up, despite current setup challenges.

**Official Response from Reagan Cola:**

> Hi Brian, thanks so much for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m glad to hear that Canto is helping your team quickly find assets, and that you can see the value it can bring once portals are fully in place for partners and internal teams.

I also appreciate your honesty about the challenges with uploading, tagging, and setup. Our implementation and customer success teams are here to make that process easier, whether it’s helping structure metadata, organize your library, or streamline how assets are added. Tools like Canto Connect can also simplify bulk uploading, so you don’t have to manage it manually.

As you continue to build out your library, features like our AI Visual Search and AI Library Assistant can also help make finding and managing assets even smoother.

We’ll reach out to you directly to understand your needs more clearly and make sure you’re fully supported moving forward. Thank you again for sharing your experience and being part of the Canto community!

 ### 7. Effortless Sharing, But Folder-Specific Search Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

The feature I like the best is how easy it is to share folders and albums with others. Using Share Links to quickly send photos to others is VERY helpful.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

The searching can use some work. My biggest dislike is the inability to search within a folder. Example: we have a folder titled 2025-26 and I can't limit my searches to just within that or the 2024-25 folder. When I search for Teachers / Students etc I am constantly getting results from 2017 etc. The search can also be buggy too and get bogged down. Sometimes I need to shut my browser down then reopen to get it to work. Using low resolution preview files can make it a challenge to know if images are good. When viewing a thumbnail in Canto it may look out of focus but when I download it I can see that it's perfectly fine. My BIGGEST dislike is that during a search you cannot open an image or an album in a new tab. Say I search "Bus Driver" and scroll far down, I see one that looks interesting so I click on it. Then I want to see the album it's in in case there are others. If I want to go back to the search results and continue where I left off I can't, the search page reloads itse'f to the top, that can be aggravating. Another dislike is the Galleries on mobile view. Most people are viewing photos on mobile and the gallery is VERY clunky on phones. If I'm a parent and I get an album with 100 images and I want to quickly scroll through to find my kid it is not the easiest process. It would also be helpful if there was a way to password protect portals. Our workaround is password protecting a folder but it'd be nice to have that for portals too.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A cloud-based service to store and search photos

**Official Response from Reagan Cola:**

> Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback. We’re really glad to hear that sharing folders and albums with Share Links has been so helpful for your team.

Your insights about search, navigation, previews, and the mobile gallery experience are incredibly valuable. We’re actively improving the new Library experience, and feedback like yours helps guide those updates.

Just to clarify, folder-level search is available today, and we’d be happy to walk you through how it works if that would be helpful.

We’d love to continue hearing your feedback as these improvements roll out. If you’d like to learn more or share additional thoughts, please feel free to reach out to your account manager or email customerfeedback@canto.com.

Thanks again for being part of the Canto community.

 ### 8. A solid hub for shared company assets

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Canto?**

Makes digital asset management easy across departments and improves collaboration.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

The biggest downside is adoption. Canto works best only when everyone consistently uploads and uses it (not desktops/shared drives).

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canto gives us one centralized place for portal access to news media, internal digital asset management, and shared assets across departments, so teams can quickly find, download, and use the correct, approved files without chasing links or digging through folders.

 ### 9. Overall a good digital asset management system, although the facial recognition can be a bit picky.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Religious Institutions | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

It is easy to use and the features are clear and well-organized. There are many settings that you can change to customize things to your liking. Canto provides a great number of portal for sharing assets online. Customer service and support, when needed, has been timely and helpful. Overall, I would say that this is a solid digital asset management system.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

I have a few issues with the facial recognition. Because we are using it in an archival setting, we upload a lot of older assets from our collections (late 1800s and early 1900s). The recognition does not work well on these photos. Also, if the initial recognition photo was not great, you'll find that you must contact customer service to have them remove this initial photo. I wish there was a way to fix this on my own without having to contact support.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can search across multiple types of assets in one go. It also allows for a good workflow between different departments (sharing assets).

**Official Response from Reagan Cola:**

> Hi there, thank you for this helpful and detailed review! We're so thrilled to hear how Canto is supporting your team across departments. We’ve shared your feedback on facial recognition with our product team as we continue to improve the platform. Thanks again! Reagan

 ### 10. Great features & usability

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julie G. | Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, Assistant Professor of Communication, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

Our small university was looking for an affordable but flexible tool for digital asset management. Canto checked all the boxes—facial recognition, organization, usability, customer support and more. The implementation process was super easy, and I loved that we had a dedicated implementation person and now a dedicated account manager. The SSO integration makes it easy for us to customize access across campus and we now spend way less time downloading and sending photos to people across the university. We are also now getting way more photos submitted from students and faculty when they travel for conferences, competitions or mission trips.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

One downside is that I wish you didn't have to be a super user to do have full uploading capability. We have a number of student photographers and it was not financially feasible to make each of them a super user. However, the flexibility of Canto provided us a work around by hiring a "photo manager" with super user status that creates upload links for photography assignments and gives those to the photographer.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a very old non-server based DAM system that didn't take advantage of all the new AI powered features. Canto's features save us time we previously spent tagging photos and now we can also identify every student in a photo.

 ### 11. Great Platform with an amazing support team!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennie C. | Creative Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

I really enjoy how easy it is to use, how responsive the support team is, all of the integrations with the other apps we use, and the ability to have multiple customized portals. We are also very excited about the introduction of the PIM system.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

I wish that there was a way to save updated files directly back to the DAM without having to reuplod them and put all of the keywords and tags back in.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is giving us one location to have all of our files available to our team members as well as outside distributors and sales reps.

 ### 12. UI UX experience has room for improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** EMILIO C. | Video Producer and DAM administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

It has great tools to search for assets, download and manage the galleries. The search tool is quite good.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

The experience of uploading assets has issues. The suggestions for TAGS is too aggresive, and the suggestion should not take precedent, especially if it does not start with the same spelling as what was typed.
For example the tag FISH, and the suggestion is ICE FISHING, and we have to redo the process several times to ensure the correct tag is entered.
Pressing enter after adding a TAG, makes the cursor dissaperar and the user has to select the input bar again for every tag. Best practice is that Enter selects the tag and keeps the curson on the same dialogue box so a new TAG can be added.
The Chat bubble is very annoying, it covers the Download Button when the Download window is opened.
When I create a single download preset for a Portal, and no other alternatives existe, Do we really need to go through all the selection process? Can it go straight to download with the preset, just like it does when you download the original?

When sharing a URL to a folder from the main library, with a user who is only in a portal but has access to the same folder I'm sharing, it's a very convoluted process to go to the portal that that user has, and share that URL.
Is there a way to share a URL that will open that folder to all of those who have access? It becomes very tedious to go to different portals, select the URL and share each URL with the different users when working with users who are using different portals.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sharing assets with staff members, and external partners as well as media outlets

 ### 13. Efficient and user-friendly digital asset management platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

Canto's interface is intuitive and visually clean, making it easy to search, organize, and tag digital files. The ability to create custom portals for sharing assets with internal and external stakeholders is incredibly useful. It helps ensure brand consistency and saves time by eliminating asset hunting.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

The search functionality could be more flexible with fuzzy or partial keyword matches. Additionally, some upload processes can be slow for large file batches, and integrating Canto with certain third-party apps sometimes requires workarounds or extra support.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canto helps us keep all our images, videos, and files in one place so we don’t waste time searching for them. It’s easy to find what we need, share with others, and stay organized. This saves time and helps our team work better together.

 ### 14. Canto image & asset management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alison W. | Graphic Designer III, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2023

**What do you like best about Canto?**

Our team uses Canto to store and organize our photos, branding, and internal image assets. Images in our library are tagged and categorized, and facial recognition is used to identify the people in our photos. This type of image organization has made it easier for colleagues to view, share, and search for photos and assets within our image collections.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

It takes quite a bit of time to organize things, adding information to images, and making the assets information-rich. I have also gotten error messages when uploading images more than once.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before using Canto we had all of our images in several different locations; now, we can promote collaboration by keeping assets in a centrally managed system. We are staying connected with external audiences and donors by using the portals to share images and branded assets after receptions and award events. Canto benefits our organization by simplifying and making our ability to share image resources collaborative.

 ### 15. Canto solved our digital management issues

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antoinette M. | TV and Publishing Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

We were looking for a platform that would be able to house our sermon videos (.mp4 & .mov), audio files (.mp3), lesson outlines (PDF & Microsoft Word), and graphics (PSD, JPG, PNG). We had our files in abou 20 locations (emails, Dropbox, OneDrive, individual computers, servers) and they were not organized. We were looking for a solution that would house everything & allow team members to search for the files & be user-friendly for them. Canto provided this. We created a standard operating procedure for how to enter the data (i.e., file naming procedures, listing of keywords, etc.). It has worked well.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

One of the reasons I selected Canto was because they provided direct URLs and cloud links. However, I'm not able to use these direct URLs on our mobile app or other applications. I still have to download the video & upload them to those apps. So, they are not useful when trying to use them in other applications. They seem to only work well when sending them to others to open the file.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Digital asset management. We're able to have our series in albums & folders & find all the assets associated with the one project.

 ### 16. Great searchability

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

Great for teams that have multiple teams uploading things -- I can search for anything I need and its AI visual search will find it for me. Makes it so I don't have to ask who the right owner is and get led through complex folder structures.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

It would be great if it were easier to upload all of our assets for the initial migration. It's easy enough - just a download then upload - but it would be great if the functionality to link to our existing asset storage was working.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a fragmented selection of assets, so it was difficult for different functions to find the right image. Now we can easily search (filter through metadata or AI visual search) to find the right asset. It's also enabling us to share with external parties (like retailers) easier with portals.

 ### 17. Best program to keep digital assets organized

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

I really like the ease of being able to keep all of our digital assess in one place. Prior to this we were using other programs and it was very difficult to keep organized. We are a nonprofit with a very large number members. Being able to tag pictures and have the face recognition has been super helpful when recognizing our members.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

I don’t dislike anything, but there could always be improvement with the UX. Creating a public link or upload link can be very tedious.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping assists in one place and making it easy to organize.

 ### 18. Getting to Know Canto

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mariana P. | Production, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

What I love most about Canto is how easy it is to create portals and share content effortlessly, without losing the quality of your videos or photos.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

What I don't like about Canto is that it takes too long to upload a file and the excessive amount of emails they send.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sharing content and creating links to share it.

**Official Response from Julie Neumeister:**

> Hi Mariana — thanks for your review! We're glad you love how easy it is to create portals and share content without losing quality. We appreciate your feedback on upload speed and emails and will share it with our team. Let us know if we can help with anything!

 ### 19. Canto Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Canto?**

I like the ease of searching for images with the Indesign plug-in & collaborating with other artist on projects remotely.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

I wish there was a way of making uploading, naming, tagging images quicker and easier.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowing us to have 1 central location to store & name images & access remotely.

 ### 20. Canto is a smart content management tool that has saved our digital team hours and hours of work

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Keissy G. | Digital Marketing Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Canto?**

The AI tools it has to detect and tag content. Also, I find the search tools quite powerfull and accurate. I appreciate how manageable al content is.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

I would like for it to be more flexible, i feel like its quite stiff in some of it´s functionalities. Especially when it comes to uploading assets. I would like a "Drag and Drop" function.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows us to store out digital assets, categorize them and algo find them in quick searches.

 ### 21. Best DAM I've ever used!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikki T. | Senior Marketing Project Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Canto?**

As an experienced Marketing operations manager, I have had to use many internal (and external) digital asset management platforms. Canto is by far the best DAM I've ever used. It's custom portals, sharing capabilities, and smart tagging are unmatched.

**What do you dislike about Canto?**

The only thing I don't love about Canto is when you are uploading large files (for example raw images from a photoshoot, it does take a while to upload and sometimes can fail if its too many at a time.

**What problems is Canto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canto is our internal server for all imagery and assets the company has ever used and will ever create. It is our product information system AND our packaging and product development system.
