"Great all-in-one for client management, weak on project management, IMO."
4/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

Having everything in one place. Before Canopy, I was juggling four different software tools to run my bookkeeping practice. Now my engagement letters and contracts, invoicing, payment collection, and all of my client information live in a single platform. That consolidation alone has saved me time and cut down on the mental overhead of switching between systems and reconciling information across them. It's made the client-facing side of my business dramatically simpler to manage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The built-in project management. I still run my actual project and task management in Notion, partly because of how I already have it set up, but mostly because of how tasks work in Canopy. In Notion I can see and edit all of my tasks from one screen. In Canopy, when I click on a task, it pulls me out of the task view and drops me into the client profile — so I lose the bird's-eye view of everything on my plate. For anyone who lives in a single task dashboard, that navigation gets in the way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Efficient Management and Communication with Room for Improvement"
4/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I like how Canopy keeps everything in one place and the workflow is consistently in front of me via the dashboard. What I like most about Canopy is the email insight feature where I can see my firm’s emails for all of my employees and staff, and they can reply as me as needed. I also appreciate the fluidity of the email into the calendar. It saves us time by combining services and streamlines everyone having to be in each other’s email. What do you dislike about Canopy?

I would love the ability for a meeting notetaker where I can copy everything over to other systems or modify it. The meeting notetaker has enhanced it by linking to the specific client, but I need the ability to modify it or add and delete things. The initial setup was a lot of work because the workflows in Canopy weren't as extensive as I expected. I would like the option to share workflows from other firms. "All-in-One Solution with Room for Improvement"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I think that Canopy is an all-in-one resource management system, and I don't have to use three different pieces of software to do everything. It keeps track of all my documents and provides a place to send secure live files to clients. I also appreciate the secure document uploads and downloads between clients and the secure electronic signatures, which help me get my tax documents from clients and send their tax returns back securely. It's great that I don't have to email anything or have a separate secure email system. The initial setup was easy for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The QuickBooks integration could be improved. I would like to be able to just have to enter an invoice in one place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Centralized Hub That Streamlines Our Tax Practice"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I really like that Canopy centralizes nearly every aspect of our practice onto one platform. The secure client portal is extremely intuitive, making document exchange straightforward for both our team and clients. The straightforward electronic signature process speeds up turnarounds, allowing clients to sign documents from anywhere, which helps us file returns more quickly. The workflow tools give us clear visibility into the status of each client return or project, aiding us in prioritization, task assignment, and deadline management. I appreciate that client communications, invoices, documents, and tax returns are all linked to the client's profile, making finding information quick and efficient. The process improves organization and the client experience, enhancing our service efficiency. Canopy helps us stay organized and efficiently work through our tasks and projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

Overall, Canopy has been a very valuable platform for our firm, but there are a few areas where I believe it could be improved - and I don't doubt for a second that Canopy won't improve them. Some workflows require more clicks than necessary, and there are times when navigating between different sections of the software isn't as intuitive as it could be. I'd also like to see greater customization within workflows and reporting so firms can better tailor the platform to their specific processes. Occasionally, performance can feel sluggish, particularly when working with larger client files or moving between modules. Continued improvements to speed and responsiveness would enhance the overall user experience. Additionally, I would appreciate more flexibility in automations, which would help reduce manual tasks and further streamline our workflow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlined Client Management and QuickBooks Integration"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I really like that Canopy is easy to use and integrates directly with QuickBooks Online, which is incredibly helpful. It also offers a ton of different training modules and options, making it great for onboarding new employees or clients with its fantastic database. The integration allows new clients added into QuickBooks to automatically sync with Canopy, which simplifies my workflow. It's been extremely helpful for automating and maintaining name conventions when hiring new people. Additionally, I find invoicing through Canopy much easier for tracking and keeping clients updated without extra downloading, making the whole process time-efficient. What do you dislike about Canopy?

Sometimes the templates and being able to copy things have been less than user-friendly, especially if it's specifically assigned to a client. Another issue is having different engagements go out that aren't attached to billing, as we don't use billing within Canopy or payments, which has been trickier than we would like. The fact that the tax organizers are not modifiable is less than ideal. We've had to create custom templates outside of Canopy and integrate them in, which is like doing double the work. It would be easier if you could modify the tax organizers directly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"User-Friendly with Secure Client App"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I find Canopy very easy to use. Adding files is extremely easy, and it really simplifies coordinating with clients, especially with the app. The secure portal makes my clients feel good about submitting their information. The clients like being able to share easily by clicking pictures and directly uploading. I also like to trial on the beta when things are available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The only thing I don't like about Canopy is when you add clients' files, and you click on the visible box, a huge box pops up, and you have to move it in order to click on each one of the files. I liked it when the box was smaller and easier to navigate around. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"User-Friendly All-in-One Platform That Keeps Our Team Organized"
4/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

One of my favorite things about Canopy is how user-friendly it is. It brings so many different functions together in one platform, making it easy to manage client communication, document sharing, e-signatures, tasks, workflow, and billing without having to switch between multiple programs. Having everything in one place saves time, keeps our team organized, and creates a much smoother experience for both staff and clients. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

Overall, I've had a great experience with Canopy, but there are a few areas that could be improved. Penny, the AI chatbot, hasn't been very useful in my experience and often doesn't provide the answers I'm looking for. The platform can also become slower during the busiest parts of tax season, which can impact efficiency.

I also wish there were a more transparent process for submitting feature requests and tracking product updates. Some requested features seem to take a long time to be implemented—or never make it into the platform at all. While I'm happy with what Canopy offers today, I'd love to see more communication around customer feedback and the product roadmap. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Boosted Efficiency with Seamless Integrations and Helpful Training"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I really like with work flow that increases efficiency. They really take the time to teach you how to utilize the product. It integrates with some other programs that make it seamless and easy to use. We switched over and our organization and efficiency has increased Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

It is something that I like and something that I dislike all in one. Canopy is constantly updating to keep up with the enhancements that are suggested so sometimes I have a glitch. Generally it is fixed very quickly and thier customer service is very ontop of assisting if needed. So its a plus that they actually listen to clients and update as needed. "Comprehensive Solution with Stellar Support"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

I use Canopy for storing documents and collaborating with clients, and I appreciate its communication feature, which makes linking our email a breeze. The new monthly close feature in beta is another aspect that we're excited about. The Canopy portal is incredibly easy to use, and we find that clients comply with it well. I've tried a lot of different software as an accountant, and Canopy really stands out as all-encompassing. Between practice management and file sharing, it's a solid choice if you're looking for something that can do just about everything. I really like Canopy's clean user interface, which makes it easy for my staff to pick up even without training. The community support is fantastic, with webinars and classrooms that foster a sense of shared success among users. Their team was incredibly supportive during our transition too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

If they could improve this closed module during the beta to something that could compete with Double, we would be so excited to add that on and move our entire advisory team over to Canopy. Right now, it's just our tax team that lives in there, and our advisory team has to live in two different systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive, Highly Customizable Platform That Fits Our Firm’s Needs"
5/5
What do you like best about Canopy?

Canopy is very intuitive and easy to customize to fit our firm’s needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Canopy?

The Notes section needs some real improvement. The features and audit trail there are lacking. Also, the fact that it doesn't integrate with outside apps but instead tries to bring everything into Canopy itself is frustrating. If something already exists, I would prefer they have an open API to allow us to do what needs to be done instead of waiting on Canopy to choose to develop it themselves.
