## Canopy Reviews
  ### 1. Efficient Client Management with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Naomi S.

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I appreciate Canopy's ability to manage clients, their files, internal files, and communications efficiently. It solves the problem of obtaining signatures from clients quickly and conveniently, ensuring the signed documents are seamlessly integrated into the appropriate client files. This feature saves me the hassle of dealing with physical documents and the associated delays, as I no longer have to search for or wonder about whether a document, such as an engagement letter, has been signed. The efficiency of receiving notifications when something is signed, and having it automatically organized, boosts productivity and ensures that nothing important is overlooked. Additionally, the ability to assign tasks and comment on them within the platform aids in collaboration and keeps work progress transparent. This functionality makes Canopy a valuable tool in streamlining my workflow.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I don't like the email interface in Canopy; it's difficult to search for things and often doesn't work properly. Additionally, it doesn't connect to all of my emails and is usually delayed by a few days. I also dislike the arrangement of templates; it's frustrating that I can't change or organize them, as they only appear in the order Canopy sets them, even before the templates I've created. Another inconvenience is that I can't upload entire file folders to Canopy—only individual documents inside the folders—which makes the process of adding several folders time-consuming, as they need to be added separately.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to manage client files and communications effectively. It simplifies obtaining client signatures and automatically organizes documents, saving time and effort compared to manual processes.

  ### 2. Efficient Billing & Easy Follow up

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Minnie G. | Tax Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I appreciate Canopy's adaptive approach, which aligns well with my needs and enhances my workflow. This flexibility has proved incredibly beneficial. Furthermore, the client request feature with follow-up rules is particularly valuable, as it provides an organized method to manage open items, significantly reducing the effort required for manual checkups with clients. This feature enhances my efficiency and streamlines the process, allowing me to focus more on strategic tasks. Additionally, integrating Outlook emails with the ability to quickly tag teammates, even if they are not directly in the email, is a practical feature that aids in maintaining effective communication and collaboration across the team. Overall, these aspects of Canopy have made a noticeable positive impact on my work, leading to improvements in billing and receivables handling.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The smart intake feature for the tax organizer does not display data from the previous year. also I noticed there isn't a central way to organize the list of tasks, which makes it harder to keep track of everything.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to improve billing and receivables and manage client requests with follow-up rules efficiently, reducing manual checkups and organizing open items.

  ### 3. Intuitive and Integrated Project Management Solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love how Canopy provides transparency between staff members on project status, which greatly enhances our team collaboration. It serves as a 'one stop shop' for document storage, workflows, time entry, and invoices, truly streamlining our operations. The client request feature is particularly impressive as it automatically reminds clients of tasks, which saves me a lot of time. The user experience is phenomenal, with an intuitive and sleek design that makes navigation a breeze. The support options are useful, easy to navigate, and responsive, ensuring that any questions or issues are addressed promptly. Canopy's web-based nature solves multiple problems for us by combining the functionality of several softwares into one platform. Its ability to track and notify effectively is a notable advantage. Despite the steep learning curve initially, I have grown to love the system. The seamless integration with our email and the API with the IRS to pull transcripts adds tremendous value to its functionality.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I would love a way to print client requests without relying on the 'print screen' button, which feels cumbersome. Additionally, it would be beneficial to have the functionality to set a due date for client requests while still sending reminders if the tasks aren't completed by the due date.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy provides project transparency, streamlines document storage, workflows, and invoicing. It auto-reminds clients of tasks, saving me time. It's web-based, combines multiple software functions, and excels at tracking and notifying.

  ### 4. Revolutionized Our Workflow with Superior Data Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pam A.

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I appreciate Canopy for efficiently managing client communications and streamlining our workflow, especially in tax preparation and bookkeeping tasks. It significantly saves time by putting essential information at my fingertips. The internal communication tools allow anyone in our firm to easily check the status of tasks and access necessary documents, eliminating the need to track down staff or dig through files. This integration of tags and document tracking enhances our ability to respond to client inquiries promptly, right during calls, thereby increasing productivity. Another aspect I find impressive is Canopy’s interface, which far surpasses our previous software, Intuit's Link, by connecting individuals with businesses seamlessly and offering time-keeping functionalities that are crucial for our operations. The transition to using Canopy was met with initial resistance from some staff, yet they quickly adapted after recognizing its superior data management capabilities. The training videos helped create an internal knowledge base, leading to a smoother and more efficient system use. I also appreciate its ability to link with Outlook for email connectivity, further enhancing our operational efficiency.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I would like to see the tax organizer in Canopy be more customizable so we can ask the specific questions we'd like to ask, such as those needed for tax law changes. Additionally, while I didn't handle the setup personally, from a user standpoint, there was a learning curve. We had staff resistant to change, although they eventually adapted after participating in training and understanding the data management functionalities.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to streamline client communication and data accessibility, saving countless hours by organizing workflows, tracking documents, and allowing immediate access to information during client calls.

  ### 5. Streamlined Client Management and Effortless Workflows

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda C. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy helped us streamline and consolidate our tech stack. It has made it easy to access and view everything for all of our clients in one place, including notes, emails and files. The workflows have transformed how we work and the note feature on our workflows has reduced the back and forth internally. The automated reminders for signature and payment are a huge time and energy saver and our A/R has never been so consistently clean.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The main drawback I find with Canopy is the inability to create custom fields that can be searched within tasks. Since we don't utilize the billing features of Canopy due to its lack of integration with our existing software, having searchable custom fields would be essential for us to track our projected billing.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy has brought all our processes together in one place, making it much simpler for us to analyze client data and monitor outstanding tasks.

  ### 6. One-Stop Solution for Secure Document Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Patricia M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I absolutely love how Canopy serves as a one-stop place for all my accounting needs, making it incredibly convenient to manage various tasks seamlessly. The platform's ability to organize tasks is invaluable to me, especially in efficiently handling my accounting responsibilities, bookkeeping, taxes, payroll, and even consulting. Creating tasks for clients and having a secure place for both storing and receiving documents enhances the collaborative process and ensures data security, which I find very reassuring. I also appreciate that Canopy allows me to manage my time more effectively, which is crucial in maintaining productivity in a busy accounting firm. Moreover, the initial setup was pretty easy, allowing my team to integrate Canopy into our workflow without any hassle.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I wish the task filter could be more flexible. Specifically, I would like the ability to move tasks up and down based on what I'm planning to do each day. This limitation impacts my ability to efficiently prioritize and manage my daily activities.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Canopy organizes our tasks efficiently and securely manages document sharing with clients, making it a one-stop solution for our accounting needs.

  ### 7. Time-Saving, Secure, and Efficient with Stellar Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tammy W.

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I find Canopy to be incredibly beneficial for several reasons. The ease of sorting information through custom views simplifies my monthly workflow, allowing me to avoid complex reports and access frequently used information with just a click. Features like this are especially useful for tasks such as sending out client birthday and business anniversary cards. I also appreciate the features 'Scan to Canopy' and 'Print to Canopy' for their remarkable efficiency. These tools enable immediate document uploads without saving files to a local computer, enhancing both time management and security by minimizing the risk associated with storing documents in multiple locations. Furthermore, the customer support offered by Canopy has been superb, making the user experience even more satisfying. The help section is an excellent resource, which further adds to the product's appeal. Lastly, when compared to previous tools we used, the setup of Canopy, despite its challenges, was much quicker, cutting our setup and training time in half, and contributing to a more streamlined transition.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I would like to have an option at the time of upload to make documents visible to clients or not. This would cut down my time by being able to choose on a file-by-file basis on whether or not the file is viewable by the client.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to streamline client communication, saving time on form submissions and transcript retrieval, while enhancing security with instant document uploads.

  ### 8. Robust Features and Insights, But Recurring Task Issues Need Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

Canopy provides a wide range of useful features, from a secure client portal to the ability to set up recurring tasks and manage client requests. We can create tasks that help us define workflows for onboarding, bookkeeping, tax tracking, and all other areas of our business. The Insights feature is especially valuable, as it allows us to visualize and monitor our key performance indicators.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

We encountered several problems when trying to use custom dates in recurring tasks, and unfortunately, customer support was unable to resolve these issues despite numerous exchanges. This made it difficult for us to keep track of certain requirements. Additionally, the inability to modify a recurring task that was created from a template has also been problematic.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This platform serves as a one-stop shop for managing all aspects of client engagement, from billing and file uploads to handling client requests. It also supports internal processes by making task and time tracking more efficient.

  ### 9. User-Friendly Interface and Outstanding Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

The interface is very user friendly and easy to learn. I also appreciate if I do have a question, support is always quick to respond with either a link to an article or an answer to my question directly. I have even hopped on calls with support to help sort out questions I have as well.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The only downside I have is that Canopy is difficult to use with other platforms. They are an all-in-one system, which is fantastic, but while they are working on creating new features it is very difficult to try to use other platforms and have them integrate with Canopy.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy has helped our firm create clear workflow for all of our users. It has helped ensure tasks are not missed and helps our users understand what is assigned truly to them to work on. Canopy has also helped with our AR significantly. The automated billing reminders and easy payment platform have been fantastic to ensure payments are made timely by our clients.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathon B.

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

This automation is particularly beneficial in our tax return process, where it sends timely emails at various stages to keep our clients informed about their progress. Additionally, I appreciate the ease of navigation for clients within the portal, which enhances their experience and reduces confusion, making it a seamless process for them to stay updated and engaged.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I have experienced some issues with Canopy regarding billing and deposits not being processed correctly. Better communication is needed on how the payment fees are charged, and the practice of running test transactions that can confuse customers should be avoided. Additionally, while the initial setup was relatively easy, it was also quite time-consuming.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy solves document handling inefficiencies and saves time through automated workflows, ensuring clients are updated on tax return progress.

This integration means that we don't have to juggle multiple tools, simplifying our processes significantly. Additionally, Canopy is particularly beneficial for our clients, offering them a streamlined experience in managing their business with us. I also appreciate the seamless integration capabilities with other tools like Power Automate, which enhances our workflow building. Overall, Canopy stands out as a comprehensive solution for our business management needs, and I rate it highly as a platform.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find the lack of a chat feature for client communication through their portal or app to be a significant drawback. Additionally, the reporting capabilities need improvement, as the current options do not effectively meet our needs. While the initial setup of Canopy was easy, configuring the task workflows required considerable effort.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Canopy consolidates our business needs into one platform, streamlining client engagement, workflows, time management, billing, and document handling efficiently.

  ### 12. Unified Platform, Exceptional Client Experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam M.

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

The client portal is fantastic, simplifying the management of client interactions, including the convenience of paying invoices with just one email click, no login required. I am excited about Canopy's future developments, which promise to transform it into a robust ecosystem for client data management, CRM, communication, and AI-enabled insights, essentially becoming our 'client brain.'

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

Right now, creating projects en-masse in the workflow system that can then be self-sustaining is not feasible. It requires a lot of manual updating of templates month to month and year to year.

I use Canopy to integrate our backend and frontend processes, saving $7,000 annually by replacing four different softwares. It offers a user-friendly interface for clients, simplifies invoice payments, and soon will enhance CRM and AI insights.

I appreciate Canopy’s ease of use, which greatly simplifies my accounting practice management tasks. The ability to design new task templates easily and assign users to subtasks makes managing tasks efficient. I find the multi-subtask templates particularly valuable as they allow me to create detailed workflows and track statuses effectively. These features are essential improvements over the previous software, OfficeTools, which lacked updates and was difficult to modify. Overall, Canopy’s user-friendly nature and integration capabilities significantly contribute to a streamlined and productive experience.

  ### 17. Customizable Workflow Solution, Needs Clarity on Licensing

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian P. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I like that Canopy can be customized and allows for different levels of authority to be assigned to different team members. This feature is incredibly helpful for coordinating and collaborating with various members of the team. Moreover, I appreciate how Canopy integrates all client emails and communications, which streamlines processes and enhances team communication. Additionally, I found the initial setup of Canopy to be pretty easy, which is a significant advantage. These aspects make managing workflow, projects, and people much more efficient.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I don't think there's alignment between what our licensing shows and what services and fees we are actually using. This situation makes me feel uncertain about whether I'm paying the appropriate rates. Despite being a longtime customer with legacy rates, I desire more clarity and simplicity in the licensing process to ensure we are only paying for the services we are actually using.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to manage workflows, projects, and people. It provides transparency, enhances communication, and reduces emails. I appreciate its customization and authority levels for team collaboration and integrating client communications.

  ### 18. Canopy the Game Changer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giselle A. | Accounting Operations Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really enjoy the ease of using Canopy. It has, to me, what feels like a straightforward design. Navigating through the program is easy and brings a modern feel. The client portal is definitely my favorite feature. It’s modern and easy for clients to navigate, which makes the entire process smoother for our firm and our clients.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I feel like the implementation meeting for canopy could be a little longer. The meetings are an hour long, but I feel like they can be 15-30 minutes longer. During the implementation process, a lot of questions are asked which can eat up a lot of the time. It feels like most meetings there was an abrupt end because our implementation specialist has to go to another meeting immediately after.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has helped to condense the amount of accounting software to use. Canopy helps to consolidate CRM, document management, client communication, billing / invoicing, and workflow management all into one program.

  ### 19. Simplifies Workflow with Key Features, But Customer Support Lags

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laura C. | Accounting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

What I like best about Canopy is how it keeps everything in one place. It makes it easy to organize client information, share documents, and manage tasks without jumping between different tools. The e-signature feature, especially with KBA, is also a big help because it keeps the signing process secure and simple. Overall, it streamlines my workflow and saves a lot of time.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

What I dislike most about Canopy is how long it takes to get help when issues come up. As a paying customer, the slow response times are frustrating. The initial setup was also very challenging, and the limited support during that process made onboarding much harder than it needed to be.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps me bring client management, document storage, task tracking, and timekeeping together in one place. Having everything centralized streamlines our workflow and cuts down on extra steps. The eSignature tools also add a layer of security and make the process more efficient.

  ### 20. Simplifies Management but Needs Smoother Transitions

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda S. | Firm Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love Canopy for its comprehensive client management, billing, workflow, and file management capabilities. I find Canopy exceptionally easy to use, and its simplicity is a standout feature for me. It avoids unnecessary complications, which enhances my overall user experience. These aspects of Canopy contribute to my high satisfaction and preference for this software over others.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find Canopy lacking in certain necessary features, particularly in the context of tax software, which is very client-number-centric. It doesn't naturally support this unless you find workarounds. The transition from more complex software to Canopy has been tedious, highlighting the need for better migration tools or processes. Additionally, I encountered significant challenges with the initial setup, where the document transition did not go well. I had to execute many tasks manually, contrary to what was initially promised.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Canopy provides a one-stop platform for client, billing, and file management, reducing the need to switch between programs, and it is easy to use.

I am currently wishing Canopy had the ability to limit what the client can see within the portal (client permissions).

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for time management, overseeing tasks, and interacting with clients. It helps me quickly respond to client requests with e-signatures, track engagement letters, and share files easily.

This ease of use and efficiency significantly enhances our practice management, making Canopy an indispensable tool for both my clients and myself.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find the engagement function problematic due to bugs, which unfortunately do not save my invoice descriptions. I also experience difficulties in creating templates, wishing it were more straightforward right after completing an engagement. Additionally, there is inconsistency with payment surcharges, which complicates financial processes.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for practice management, keeping everything organized in one package. It simplifies operations with its cohesiveness and user-friendly features, appreciated by clients. However, the engagement function needs improvement, such as template creation ease and maintaining invoice descriptions.

I really appreciate how Canopy consolidates everything in one place, making it incredibly convenient for project management, client communication, and document storage. It significantly eases the client communication process by enabling real-time interactions. I particularly like how the app allows clients to easily snap a picture of a document and upload it or send quick messages, eliminating the need for cumbersome emailing or scanning. This seamless communication feature saves a lot of time and enhances the workflow efficiency. The web-based software aspect is also fantastic, ensuring our clients have easy access to all the necessary features and information. Transitioning to Canopy was relatively easy for my team, which is a huge plus.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find that the document text boxes in Canopy are not working properly.

I use Canopy for project management, client communication, and document storage, all in one place, facilitating real-time communication and streamlining document sharing, which enhances efficiency in preparing tax returns.

  ### 24. Versatile Tool with Stellar Support

**Reviewed by:** Kaelyn W.

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really appreciate how responsive Canopy is to its client base. It's rare to find a software company that listens to its users as much as Canopy does and is always evolving. I love how it handles almost everything we need for our small accounting firm, from a built-in client portal and communication methods, to document management, client interface, workflow, time, and billing management. The comprehensive features save us from having to use multiple software solutions, making it very streamlined. The significant number of automation features is quite impressive, and the fact that they're incorporating AI is fantastic. They always keep up with the times and integrate useful features based on user feedback, which makes it a joy to use. Their continuous improvement and ability to keep current with user demands are admirable.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I experience occasional glitches with how Canopy functions, although I'm not entirely sure if that's due to my device. One thing I do feel that Canopy could improve is integrating a dedicated scheduling module. Currently, we use a separate system, Acuity, for scheduling, and having everything centralized within Canopy would streamline our operations further. This addition could also potentially open doors for more automation within the platform, enhancing the overall experience.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to streamline firm operations, integrating client communication, document management, and workflow. It reduces the need for multiple software solutions by handling tasks like billing and automations, serving as a one-stop management system for our accounting firm.

I truly value Canopy for its ability to keep all my documents in one place, which significantly streamlines my workflow. This feature ensures that everything is organized and easily accessible, boosting my efficiency. Additionally, I enjoy the tasks and automation functionalities, as they keep my workflow clean and uncluttered. These automation features simplify task management and help maintain order in my operations. By facilitating a more systematic approach, these elements of Canopy allow me to focus more on important tasks without getting bogged down by disorganization.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find it difficult to maneuver through the system at times, as the functionality seems to be a bit off occasionally. Additionally, I wish there was a due date list feature, which would enhance my ability to track deadlines. Furthermore, the initial setup was somewhat challenging, which made the onboarding process less smooth.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Canopy keeps all my documents in one place and streamlines my workflow, making everything clean and organized.

  ### 26. Centralized Client Management with Room for AI Improvement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan C. | Senior Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love how Canopy centralizes client information, documents, workflows, and client communication all in one place, significantly enhancing our organization. The use of AI and automation is a game changer, saving us a considerable amount of time that would otherwise be spent chasing down documents. This allows us to focus more on completing the actual work. I personally appreciate the Questionnaire feature and the client document request list. These tools are essential as they empower us to request information from clients and leave it to them to provide the necessary details at their own pace. The added benefit of automated reminders ensures that we do not need to continually follow up until the client responds, streamlining our communication process significantly. Lastly, the integration with Outlook adds even more convenience, facilitating seamless communication and timeline management.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I think the AI features related to organizers, questionnaires, and document lists need improvement. I want to be able to come up with a list of open items on a return based on what a client had the prior year, utilizing the data inputted into the tax return. Currently, ChatGPT is able to provide a better list than Canopy when testing these features.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy helps me stay organized by centralizing client info, documents, workflows, and communication. It saves time through AI and automation, reducing document chase efforts and allowing focus on completing work efficiently.

  ### 27. All-in-One Efficiency Booster for Firms

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kyle M.

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love Canopy for its inclusiveness of features which allows us to track time, bill clients, and store client data all in one place, thereby eliminating the need for multiple services. This all-in-one aspect boosts our firm's efficiency and aids in growth. I also appreciate the ongoing improvements, which demonstrate the company's commitment to staying current and relevant. The ease of setup and navigation of the site makes using Canopy straightforward and user-friendly. Moreover, its ability to link with QuickBooks Online and Canopy Drive enhances our workflow by providing a virtual drive for client files, thereby eliminating the need to access these files through a browser constantly.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find the use of AI in drafting engagement letters challenging as it currently lacks the capability to create drafts from templates or resources like ChatGPT does. I would like Canopy to have an AI feature that allows uploading documents, such as sample engagement letters, which the AI can use as a resource to draft customized documents. This functionality is crucial for generating tailored engagement letters that include specific details like fees, client names, year-end information, and service offerings.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to consolidate services like time tracking, billing, cloud storage, and client management, boosting efficiency and growth without needing multiple tools.

  ### 28. Robust Practice Management with User-Friendly Interface

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicole B. | Director of Operations, Accounting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I really appreciate how easy to use Canopy is, which simplifies my daily tasks and interactions with the software. The regular updates to Canopy impress me, as they continuously enhance the software, keeping it up-to-date with new features and improvements that significantly improve the functionality and reliability of our workflow. I love the templates in Canopy; they are a real time-saver, allowing me to avoid repetitive typing. This feature is particularly valuable when setting up new clients, as it automatically fills in the teams and roles along with project templates, making the client setup process seamless and efficient.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I don't like the search feature within the client list in Canopy. It's problematic because when I need to find specific clients among our 1,500 clients, the feature doesn't allow me to search and check mark multiple clients. Instead, I can only search for one thing or keyword and check one box, which is quite limiting.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to easily track project progress and client profitability, streamlining our practice management. The templates save me from repetitive typing, enhancing efficiency. It consolidates our software needs, combining three into one platform.

  ### 29. Streamlined Document and Client Management, Needs Better Integration

I really appreciate how Canopy allows me to manage everything in one place, greatly streamlining my workflow. The client intake process is simplified with the tax organizer that captures background information and reduces the need for back-and-forth communication. The ability for clients to upload documents easily, even from their phones, adds considerable convenience. The easy-to-use portal makes sharing documents with clients straightforward and efficient. Canopy's automated billing and reminders are incredibly useful, ensuring I stay on top of tasks and outstanding matters without manual intervention. I am excited about the upcoming AI updates for document checklists and questionnaires.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I want Canopy to reach a point where if a client checks something off on the questionnaire, it automatically prompts them to upload the corresponding document. Additionally, I want the system to send reminders to clients until they do so, which would save me 20-30 minutes per client. I would also love for Canopy to have better integrations, specifically with Juno and Drake Tax. Furthermore, the e-signature features could be improved with better OCR capabilities. Lastly, when I transitioned my firm to my own company, the migration process was much more manual than Canopy support had indicated. This process needs substantial improvement.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for automated billing and reminders, simplifying document management with an easy-to-use portal, and capturing client information efficiently. It saves me time on client follow-ups and organizes tasks effectively.

This capability enhances our workflow by consolidating these crucial tasks into a single system, which is efficient and convenient. I find the simplicity of the setup for the features I've used so far to be extremely beneficial, making it user-friendly and hassle-free to get started. I'm particularly impressed with Canopy’s billing feature, which works really well for our business needs. It can also automatically creates the next recurring task, saving time and ensuring that no steps are missed in our processes. These features help solve document management, workflow management, and time tracking, which are crucial for our firm's operations.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find that the firm billing, revenue, and reporting functions in Canopy could be much improved. Additionally, while the initial setup was fairly easy, it was very time-consuming since we had to migrate documents into client portals from a different program. This additional step made the setup process longer and somewhat cumbersome.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy for practice management, document management, workflow management, time tracking, and billing with customizable, automated task workflows.

  ### 32. Comprehensive Solution for Tax and Accounting Firms

**Reviewed by:** Amiee F.

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love how Canopy integrates so many essential tools into one platform, which significantly simplifies my work in a tax and accounting firm. It effectively combines email, document management, project management, client portal and communication, e-signatures, billing, and payments, offering a comprehensive solution that ensures I don't have to juggle with multiple software. This integration allows me to streamline operations by cancelling seven other software platforms, showcasing Canopy's all-encompassing capabilities and ingenuity. Its ease of use, both for me and my clients, ensures fluidity and prevents the hassle of managing different platforms and logins. The task manager, in particular, is instrumental in keeping projects running smoothly, and the automation features are genuinely impressive. These features enhance team connectivity considerably, accommodating those working remotely to stay engaged and informed effortlessly. Setup was pretty easy, and I was able to transition from my previous software, Practice CS, which I found clunky and inflexible. Canopy's seamless integration and user-friendly approach make it a perfect fit for the firm's needs.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The only think I can find are two minor areas where Canopy could be improved. Firstly, there isn't a way to address a married couple together in letters or other documents; the system only addresses the main taxpayer, which can be limiting. Secondly, I wish there were more formatting options available in letters.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy consolidates multiple tools into one platform, simplifying practice management and reducing software usage. It eases client and internal communication, offers effective task management, especially for remote work, and integrates seamlessly with Outlook and Drake, boosting our firm's efficiency.

**Reviewed by:** Jason M G.

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I find Canopy extremely beneficial for its ability to streamline our billing processes, which were previously quite manual. This efficiency saves us time and reduces errors, significantly enhancing our operational workflow. I truly appreciate that Canopy is consistently evolving, with constant improvements and changes that keep the product up-to-date and aligned with our needs. The initial setup of Canopy was straightforward, allowing us to integrate it into our operations with ease, even though we had to adapt and learn some best practices on the go. Furthermore, the value we get from Canopy is tremendous when considering the cost, especially when compared to other products we use. Canopy delivers great value for money, contributing substantially to our productivity and overall satisfaction.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I find Canopy's product to be glitchy, which disrupts the smoothness of managing tasks and impacts overall efficiency. Additionally, the interface feels a bit dated compared to more modern alternatives, which can hinder user experience. Although the initial setup was easy, it would have been more beneficial if Canopy provided better guidance on 'best practices' or templates, as we had to learn through trial and error. Furthermore, it would be significantly improved by including a tax software integration feature, which is lacking currently and would enhance its value and usability.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Canopy streamlined our billing process, which was mostly manual, enhancing our efficiency.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I don't like the current time tracking system, which feels inadequate for my needs. Fortunately, they have agreed to build a better one, which is expected to be released soon. Also, I hope for further improvements in the client portal functionality. They have made some enhancements recently, but I believe it still requires more work to meet its full potential.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to centralize client data and track tasks, which streamlines organizing client files and month-end processes. The client requests feature automates document collection and due date reminders.

I appreciate Canopy's comprehensive, all-in-one solution which helps consolidate multiple platforms such as HubSpot, Onvio, Practice CS, Proposable, and CPA Charge into a single platform. I love that Canopy is working towards becoming the premier one-stop shop for tax and accounting firms. The automation features are great as they alleviate pressure on my support team, especially in setting up clients and projects. Canopy's cloud-based nature is very important for us, providing modernity and user-friendliness. Although the initial setup takes a significant amount of time, it is not too difficult, and the result is wonderful!

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

I think Canopy's permission settings could improve in granularity. Also, the initial setup process is time-consuming, which can be cumbersome during the transition from another platform.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Canopy to combine various software into one platform, streamlining project setup and alleviating pressure on my support team with its automations.

  ### 50. All-in-One Platform with Powerful Tools and Seamless Workflow

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Canopy?**

I love that there are so many options and tools that are all within the platform. One place to store sensitive information, request information from the client, create team workflows and tasks, etc. Overall, it is very user-friendly and can be quickly learned.

**What do you dislike about Canopy?**

The biggest problem I find is when a client uploads documents, they upload them to a specific folder on their end, like say by year, 2023, 2024, 2025, etc, but on our end, they a just in the inbox and we have to then sort them back into folders.

**What problems is Canopy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One platform to track multiple aspects of our clients' work and needs.
