## About Bugzilla
Bugzilla is a "Defect Tracking System" or "Bug-Tracking System". Defect Tracking Systems allow individual or groups of developers to keep track of outstanding bugs in their product effectively. Most commercial defect-tracking software vendors charge enormous licensing fees. Despite being "free", Bugzilla has many features its expensive counterparts lack. Consequently, Bugzilla has quickly become a favorite of thousands of organizations across the globe. Product demo can be found at [https://bugzilla.ninja/](https://landfill.bugzilla.org/) . **Reviewed by:** Nitin B. | Software Engineer III, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

The suggestion it gives to make sure the bug is not duplicated while filing a bug is excellent when compared to other defect management tools available in the market.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

Editing one's comment is not possible in this tool and also highlighting certain datatypes in a different colour is not possible. If there is an easy way to add just Bug scrub comments and maintain it separately, that would be great.

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bugzilla is helping us to file and track the defects. It helps developers and testers to improve product quality by allowing them to collaborate better. It has certainly helped our product to mature.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter R. | Director of Development, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

I do like the API for creating custom dashboards to bypass the Bugzilla interface. You can also do a lot of saved searches and reporting based on the data, and it is definitely the right cost! It is also very much a bug tracking system, which it does well.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

The interface is very clunky, it can be slow and it is difficult to manage and group tickets as well as project groups past the top level. It is not very intuitive and the searches are difficult to manage at times. Often there are conflicting search criteria based on how well your users adhere to your best practices. It can get overwhelming for organizations that have large backlogs of bugs and enhancments.

**Recommendations to others considering Bugzilla:**

I would definitely research exactly what you need and what is out there. Bugzilla is a really useful tool if you are just looking to have a bug ticketing system for your engineers and or development team. It doesn't work as well as you veer away from that core competency. But for the cost and in terms of a product that will help your teams organize their bugs, it is a good product.

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it for managing our software bug tracking. It is a solid tool for this endeavor. Unfortunately, we are also forced to use it for our project management and that is not its intended use. It has few if any integrations so most of the tooling we have to manually build to integrate with other project management systems we may utilize.

First, we used it only to track errors, but with the time we also optimized working processes, monitoring, and reporting.I control the work of other departments and receive weekly reports by e-mail.

Its easy to file bugs, track the bugs based on reporter, assignee, dev, and we can create multiple sub releases under bugzilla for tracking bugs under each specific release, thereby minimizing the effort for any management leader to go and look each bug. Its widely used in most of the software companies, and day by day more number of users are depending on bugzilla for their every day bug activity :)

**Reviewed by:** Haresh S. | Software Developer, Computer Software, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2017

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

Email notifications are perfect and on time without any delay or hassle and suits the need perfectly.I normally used the advanced search option to keep track of all the errors and wide range of formats for the bug list ,11 localizations in the tool help me to fix and recover the old lost data and most of the times provide informative reports and information and a lot of add-on which makes the tasks easier

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

Sometimes it is pretty slow ,outdated and inefficient and lags a lot ,bug navigation complexity is more and less of customization and i could use only the pre-built in features and not much more than that and the plugins are also limited which is quite a troublesome experience for me

**Recommendations to others considering Bugzilla:**

Has patch viewer, supports bug fix in different file formats ,and also does automatic duplicate bug detection which identifies if there is a mismatch in the data and could potentially watch other mainstream data

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps a lot in test case management with help of an extension called testopia and can be used for ERP as well,The maintenance of the website is continuously taken care by the bugzilla and provides suggestions as well

 ### 37. Bugzilla reliable but old and outdated

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Darshak T. | Lead Software Architect, Telecommunications, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 08, 2018

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

Its a reliable and well used product. allows for pretty much any customization. Was the workhorse for many dev teams in the past. Due to its long usage history, the interface is well known.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

The code base is now old. Compared to systems like Trac and Jira, it feels very clunky. Any customization besides the very basic stuff requires changing the code.

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used bugzilla as a defect tracking system for a long time. At that time, it was the only system that we could customize to our needs and was critical to our operations. We have since then moved over to other modern systems.

 ### 38. Bugzilla Overview

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2017

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

The ability to sort and search for bugs depending on project, name, or assignee. I also like that I can create unique links to send to coworkers for quick access to chat about or assign bugs as well.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

Overall, I love all aspects except for the actual interface - I think it's a little outdated and could use a design/UX redesign to look more sophisticated

**Recommendations to others considering Bugzilla:**

Love using this site to organize our QA bugs by project, and having one place to categorize and access all of our QA bugs.

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bugzilla helps our business by being able to group and categorize all bugs we need to fix for projects in one place, making it an organized and specific way to assign work to our developers.

 ### 39. Keeping the Bugs under control

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 06, 2018

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

Bugzilla is a good tool that every software company should consider investing in implementing. It's easy for both technical and non-technical users to navigate and my favorite thing is linking incidents to a particular bug, so you can easily quantify the magnitude of an issue.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

There isn't really anything in particular that I dislike. I haven't tried to use the mobile app.

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The very crucial thing this helped us with is getting a scope of the quality of the product and then which items we should correct first.

 ### 40. Easy bug tracking tool

 ### 41. Good enough

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2017

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

It's easy to use and cheaper than most bug trackers. It's rarely down.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

The task search is clunky and it took a while for me to see the results that I really wanted, it defaulted to me seeing the list to tasks that are assigned or in progress, once the task is "Resolved", it would be out of my default list. There is no send email function. The email function would really be helpful in sending bug details to our QA and BA.

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use bugzilla mainly for tracking bugs in our software. It's easy to use so anyone new can get the hang of it.

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2017

The advanced search filters on a wealth of fields, allowing for a high level of granularity. You can sort the results by a number of fields, as well. You can include multiple emails for update notifications so all involved stay in the loop. You are also able to customize your filters and access them quickly. There's also a built-in shortcut for listing all of the entries that you logged. This helps with older bugs that you may have forgotten the details on.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

It's sometimes difficult to wade through the search results if your search parameters are not precise enough.

**Recommendations to others considering Bugzilla:**

It works well for technical-minded people.

 ### 46. Too basic, ugly interface, not the most intuitive.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Market Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2017

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

It was free! It was also easy for our developers to understand, easy to identify bugs/issues, with comments, notes, etc. We enjoyed that you could add screenshots and comments.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

It was no frills, and hard to use. The interface was not pretty. I could not identify how to set up work streams or assign / add followers. It seemed too basic for us. Other PM tools in my past have been much easier / robust for my teams need.

**Recommendations to others considering Bugzilla:**

Be sure to map out exactly what you want from a Bug tracking software - as in a checklist of sorts. Then, review 3-5 and pick the one that fits your needs most.

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking bugs and issues during the development process of an iOS & Android app.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elio Q. | Community Lead, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2017

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

I like that email etiquette is applied on Bugzilla by the way it feels. It feels like sending an email to colleagues, but this happening in a bug tracker. It might lose a lot of casuality this way, but it actually is a great way to avoid clutter.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

User Interface is outdated and needs vast improvements. The initial learning curve is quite steep as well. I had a hard time refining my search settings when searching for bugs, which might be a little bit of an experiment.

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Bugzilla at Mozilla and it's a great way to track things without too much clutter. We can work on issues and bugs from our emails as well if needed, which helps a lot when there are various communication channels.

It needs more integration to other services.

 ### 50. Track bugs with Bugzilla

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason C. | Email Marketing Specialist, Financial Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2017

**What do you like best about Bugzilla?**

Bugzilla is a very useful tool for detecting bugs quickly. My previous team used it and it was a great tool to have for any size businesses. It was simply a versatile, affordable bug tracking system. The platform comes with a standard list of default bug statuses and resolutions which was very helpful. Giving visibility on the bug's statuses and resolution parameters made it a lot easier for others to go check the updates instead of being bombarded with emails.

**What do you dislike about Bugzilla?**

The user interface can be improved to be more user friendly. It takes long to load at time, so it would be nice to see a fix on that. For first time users, it can be difficult to navigate and create a bug ticket.

**What problems is Bugzilla solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a great affordable bug tracking tool to use. It definitely does its job (to track bugs), but also it helped with organizing bugs by statuses.
