What do you like best about BuddyPress?

As a web developer, I like how Buddypress provides flexibility to handle and customize roles, members, member related features, forum like feature and easy implementation. I like the way BP integrates group discussions and private messaging. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about BuddyPress?

The Buddypress support. Once I had one strange problem on my client website and it took about 2 months to resolve that. I, on behalf of my client, contacted Buddypress technical support many times and the responses were very much delayed. Finally after posting problem to different online forums, it was resolved. Recommendations to others considering BuddyPress:

When looking for solution of your problem with Buddypress, instead of asking to their support, ask in forums like Stakeoverflow. Also don't use too many add-ons but build your own solution. Install Wordpress then make it Network site and then install Buddypress (from my personal experience) to avoid some common issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is BuddyPress solving and how is that benefiting you?

I've had couple of clients who wanted to have a website with social media like features, want to use a theme and Wordpress. So instead of building from scratch I suggested him and used Buddypress. Then he purchased a Buddypress based theme. That was so easy. He had some custom requirements and those were mostly possible due to variety of hooks available. After development is done, he can now use add-ons for some functionality and ask me to customize some add-on which does not completely fulfill his requirements. So a benefit for me and him is he can easily add/remove some features just by add/remove of add-on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
