  ### 5. "It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph K. | Owner, Director, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2015

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

"Configurability."

Every vendor on the market likes to suggest that their product can be configured as much or as little as a client wants, but there are no other products on the market that offer the degree of pre- and post-implementation that BrassRing does. Through the deployment of user-generated objects like candidate forms, workflows, and automated rules I can use the BrassRing system to build a self-contained Executive Recruitment practice in a system that is otherwise configured to process 10,000+ hires in a year.

Others have mentioned the strength of the communication templates; the combination of blurbs, automated messages, templates, and some targeted user training provides a greater degree of flexibility for rapid, responsive and effective communication than most solutions as well. While social media integration is poor and the application process desperately needs work, it is a mistake for organizations to confuse application experience with CANDIDATE experience. A candidate wants to be heard, know that their application has been reviewed, and get timely and honest feedback; the communication tools therein are excellent for supporting the entire process.

That all being said, I should probably explain the title of this review. Yes, *I* can build an implementation that does all of these things, but not every organization has (or can afford) someone dedicated to designing, configuring, and maintaining advanced functionality in the system. The Workbench back-end platform is arcane to say the least, and requires dedicated resources that not every organization has. It is up to current or prospective IBM Kenexa clients to evaluate the extent of their investment, and the sort of return they require. If you run a large-scale recruitment process with many variations and complexities, an investment in time and effort can yield results that other systems cannot offer.

One last thing to note; BrassRing is one of the few ATS on the market that still supports a simple recruitment matrix for end-users (although you'll most likely need a power user to build it). This may seem like a small or trivial thing, but if you have a large recruitment staff with high volumes, this is a feature that you will want and need.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

For starters, IBM Kenexa BrassRing on Cloud is a terrible name for a business application.

Beyond that, as other commentators have noted, system performance can be sluggish at the best of times. This can be true of any SaaS application, but I have seen service degrade to the point where the system begins to fail. Similarly, I have at times struggled working within the Kenexa and later IBM support model, where a clear lack of resources have left me waiting for timely support or simply having to sit on my hands.

The biggest challenge that BrassRing presents however is that some of the technology is clearly dated; the application experience in particular is clunky, and not suited for social-media inclined users. Social Media integration within the back-end is limited too, although this is less of a concern for organizations engaged in professional recruitment.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

Know your recruitment practice inside and out. Don't design the system for the recruitment practice you have, design it for the practice you want; have your recruitment experts at the table at implementation as it is much easier (and cheaper) to design pre-implementation than post.

Don't engage this software if you just need a tool to collect and route general applications, BrassRing is best suited for large volumes, customized workflows, meeting regulatory burdens, and evolving business requirements.

Do engage the right people to support it; the system has extensive capabilities but does require dedicated professional staff with expertise in software, business processes, and recruitment in order to get the best value from the system.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having worked with BrassRing at various organizations for nearly five years, I have found the system to be an industry-leader when it comes to designing complex, dynamic, and multi-level recruitment practices. If your organization needs a tool that will allow you to simultaneously hire hundreds (or thousands) of mass-market candidates and fill selected hard to fill roles, you'd be hard pressed to find a system that supports both.

  ### 6. Kenexa: Time to Up the Ante

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Aviation & Aerospace | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2015

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

Kenexa (previously outstart) is easy to use when it comes to PowerPoint-esque development, especially for large groups of developers with a few people who know all of the ropes for when anything big comes up. It's laid out well and it can support large amounts of content, with multiple people looking at and editing the same courseware at the same time. It's online so easy to access.

The review capability is great as well, as it is all done online in the tool.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

Kenexa just needs to catch up with other programs that offer more flexibility and access. They seem to have JUST caught up with PowerPoint in terms of animations and interactions, and that tool is as old as time (I'm pretty sure, right?).

It takes a lot of effort to set up courseware and requires programmers and experts in the program. Even layouts, despite adding visual tools, aren't easy to figure out. While development is easier once it's in progress, it's not easy to start.

Kenexa also needs to work out a lot of kinks, in both development and in exports. They have a few too many bugs/limits. For example, you can't copy and paste from word else hidden html code ruins exports and causes crashing. They need to start looking at xAPI tracking as well, since it's the future.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

It can take a while to see improvements in the product, so expect that what you see is what you get. Determine what is most important to you in terms of development - large scale with great collaboration and review functionality- or a higher level of interaction and flexibility. This will help guide you in your decision.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Large-scale development with a high threshold for content and easy access by developers and reviewers.

  ### 7. Average product coupled with terrible customer service

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kori C. | Director of HR Operations and HRIS, Information Technology and Services, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2015

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

Kenexa/Brassring fills the applicant tracking space with more tools than you can shake a stick at. It would appear to be robust and can do all things for all clients.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

Where to begin. There are so many things to dislike. Let's start with the customer service. It is simply awful. My poor account rep was stuck in a lose/lose situation. He had to marshal internal resources to help with many of my problems...and he didn't have the authority to do it. So, as a customer it took forever to get simple things done. He was also saddled with so many clients he was put in a position where he was slow to respond. I can't think of a worse support model. Kenexa is generally disorganized. Poor communication at all levels is the norm.

The technology is cutting edge 1998. Unfortunately we are living in 2015. Kenexa Workbench is a joke. It was designed for Kenexa people only so it is all put together haphazardly. It is difficult to use. Some functionality is held with the Kenexa rep to do so you can do 90% of a set up, but you need Kenexa to do the other 10%. Nothing is simple. It requires multiple steps to do something as simple as add a value to an existing drop down list. The whole admin function needs to be blown up and started over. The product itself is adequate. Recruiters struggle to use the tool. It should be easy to find and disposition candidates. Yes they can do it, but it is difficult to do so compared to many, many other ATS systems out in the world.

The onboarding product 2xO should be pulled from the market. It is a horrid piece of software slop no one cares about (not even Kenexa). It is by far one of the worst pieces of technology on the market today. If the leadership at Kenexa had souls they would immediately decommission this worthless piece of crap, apologize for allowing this stain to exist in their company and return every penny of the customer's money.

It took four months to do the initial mapping and configuration for 2xO. It took ONE YEAR from that point to "go live." Out implementation person quit Kenexa because of this. No one is happy with the result. It is slow, awkward, clumsy, counter-intuitive to use. It is the only piece of software where it is actually faster to have the new employee fill out paper than it is to use this stinky piece of software. If you get stuck with this piece of crap, you have just been told by your organization that they HATE you and you should find another job soon. They have set you up to fail and will blame and fire you over this. I would only wish my enemies the task of implementing 2xO.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

Don't do it. There are many better platforms that have more functionality, easier to configure and use, better customer service for less money.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A single international applicant tracking system which would allow us manage our entire recruitment function. That goal was met...but any wish for a user friendly system was somehow missed in the selection process. At best all I can say is Kenexa/Brassring an extremely average company and technology. So, if you're looking for vendor and technology solution that is outstanding in mediocrity, then Kenexa is just the company for you! Sign up now and keep your expectations low!

  ### 8. My Kenexa Experience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lina D. | Recruiter, Field Talent Acquisition & Kmart Pharmacy, Retail, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

Utilizing Kenexa Brassring (now IBM) as our ATS at SHC - the best feature is the communication email template we can send over to multiple candidates with one click! Easy way to stay in touch with our candidate pool and coordinate phone screens in a more efficent manner.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

Our posting feature sometimes has issues. I'm not sure if it is a Kenexa problem or due to server error.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

Kenexa is an easier ATS to use then Taleo or PeopleClick. However, in onboarding our candidates have issues with their w4 forms typically so you may have to follow up during that step in the process!

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We utilize Kenexa Brassring (now IBM) as our ATS. We are hiring candidates for our store locations - both Kmart and Sears. Candidate tracking is essential for a TA organization and Kenexa has helped us achieve it. Thank you!

  ### 9. Kenexa: ATS Solution for International Company

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brett K. | Global Resources Functional Lead, Construction, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

Kenexa is a versatile applicant tracking system that allows global candidate flow tracking without sacrificing regional autonomy. We have been able to customize the system to fit my company's needs.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

It seems that recently our customer service has declined over the past few years. Our designated Kenexa consultants are less helpful in creating results based solutions to fit our needs.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

It seems like Kenexa is pushing the configuration responsibilities back to the clients over the past 2 years. If you don't have an internal work bench user team, Kenexa could be hard to implement.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

EEO Compliance, Candidate Sourcing, and Universal Global Requisitioning are all major successes and benefits to the proper utilization of Kenexa for our recruitment needs.

  ### 10. Best ATS I have used yet!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anthony Q. | Talent Resourcing Consultant - National Accounts, Food & Beverages, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 19, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

I like the split screen dashboard. It makes for easy multitasking (working while phone screening). I also like how the tool seems proactive. Ie if you choose phone screen a reusme and phone screen for pops up.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

Its a little clunky...like all ATSs'. Lots of clicks, lots of pop up screens, waiting, loading. But the end result is always seamless.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

Mess around with it!

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Kenexa helps me work fast and as a Talent Resource Conslutant part of my job is to think and work on the fly. This tool makes organizing easy and helps me stay on track and meet my goals.

  ### 11. Easy to use a little complex at times.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

It allow you to track the progress of a potential candidate from start to finish. You can track communications to each candidate to see when you email or last contact the candidate. You can pull resumes from different sources by using keyword searches for the type of employees you are looking to hire

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

I found the system unnecessarily complex. I thought there was too much inconsistency in this system. I found the system very cumbersome to use.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

Small recruiting and more HR use then mass recruiting use.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are recruiting for Agents that want to own their own small business. We get alot of different types of people and resumes. Resumes from all over the state.

  ### 12. Simple ATS to use

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Avni P. | Global Talent Acquisition Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

I used Kenexa Brassring in the past and I liked it's simplicity. It was fairly easy to use. The communication email template in Kenexa could be sent to multiple candidates which was great. It was also good to stay on track with the candidate pool.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

Slow processing is quite common with Kenexa. There were multiple times where I was logged off and had to sign in again. I also don't like the fact that their is no social media integration. y

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

In my opinion, Kenexa does not have too many dynamic features. It would help if their is a scheduling tool inside the ATS itself.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Depending on company size, Kenexa Brassring is good for mid size organizations.

  ### 13. I've been using Kenexa for almost a decade, and at 3 different companies!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

Kenexa has the science and the art! The process and system are the science and Kenexa partnered with us to make it feel like our culture and worked closely with our business leaders to help iron out any issues so that we would have support from our business leaders. This was key and not something that other RPOs offer.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

Implementing an RPO isn't a silver bullet to hiring. It takes time to implement and business leaders using the process need to invest their time to share feedback in order to incrementally improve.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a process that would allow us to measure our hires against a performance profile to ensure that we were getting a return on our process. In addition to doing this, retention and job satisfaction are higher not to mention overall client satisfaction.

  ### 14. Kenexa Testing software very useful for pre-employment testing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

When I worked in a unionized environment, we did typing and data entry tests in addition to assessing Word and Excel skills. When I first started we didn't have software to do this so everything had to be marked by hand. According to the union, each employee had to be given 2 chances to write the test, so the candidate often had to wait around while we marked their first attempt. When we switched to Kenexa Prove It!, the results would be emailed to me immediately with no delay. Not only could I compare scores, I could also accurately compare how long each candidate took on each question to see what areas they struggled with. The whole process was incredibly efficient and saved ourselves and the candidates a lot of time. It also allowed us to test at our remote locations much more easily. Managers outside of HR didn't need to worry about trying to mark exams for us-they simply needed to set them up on a computer and walk away until they were finished and I confirmed the results had come through. I also liked that the tests could be personalized depending on the skill set needed for the role.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

The UI was a bit outdated and it was confusing for candidates who were not the most computer literate when to start the test. Many accidentally started the test without realizing and received poor scores because they didn't realize they had clicked start being taking a moment to compose themselves before starting a timed test. Having more clear instructions and a more obvious start button would help.
Would also like to see a list of actual questions available rather than just a vague question list-this would make it easier for managers to pick out the questions that relate the required skills more easily.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were trying to automate our testing process and make it easier for testing to be completed at locations that didn't have HR on site. It also allowed testing administration to be controlled by one person for the country, rather than each individual setting up and marking themselves. The time saved from marking alone was a huge improvement.

  ### 15. Kenexa

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tania T. | Benefits, Compensation and HRIS Manager, Paper & Forest Products, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 07, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

The integrity of the data. The data is very accurate and supports our business goals of staying competitive and maintaining internal equity.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

Lack of support to update Enterprise model

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

We purchased the enterprise edition but never fully implemented the solution since we found little support from Kenexa and a huge workload due to an implementation. For what we paid we could have used a bit of handholding.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tools to ensure sound compensation practive. We have maintained compensation equity utilizing Kenexa.

  ### 16. Kenexa - BrassRing

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Chemicals | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

The system is user friendly, provide a vast range of Talent Acquisition support, from processing applicants, updating statuses, sending it to Hiring Manager with a click of a button. Best part is, if utilized well, their Data Insight Tool will be very helpful to generate metrics and for strategic planning year on year.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

It may have delayed responses from tech support if you encounter some issues, but none too severe. Also, depending on connection and number of users, sometimes you might experience slow load response.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Targeted more on the quality of hire, time to fill for each positions, and even to use it to discuss specific red flags of positions by refering to the JDs generated from the requisitions.

  ### 17. Functionality exists but UI and customer support is lacking

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 18, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

The system is robust and allows for a large scale of recruiting, like in a retail environment. It is also possible to integrate it with several other systems without a lot of effort.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

UI is clunky and the improvements are slow. There are many feature quirks (for ex. you can only ask the candidate for the date in dd/mm/yy format). Customer service is not the best, a lot of turnover.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

If you are looking for a simple, intuitive system, Kenexa has a long way to go. If you are a complex organization requiring a lot of information, Kenexa could be your solution

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recruiting process has been streamlined significantly

  ### 18. Good product but not right for true sourcing recruiting groups

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

I love the flexibility the system provides. There are 5 different ways to do one thing. The system speed is also great!

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

2xB is not made for recruiting groups that do passive candidate sourcing. Ex: there is no direct way to update a resume in a talent record. You have to add the candidate as "new" and then let the stacking logic recognize it as a duplicate.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

Make sure you have a competent IC when going through your implementation.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speed

  ### 19. Kenexa and a Recruiter

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

It keeps up completely compliment and tracks all paperwork seamlessly.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

From a functional standpoint, it is extremely finicky and downright slow. It's best used as a way to disposition candidates, instead of actually searching for candidates.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

Making it a more integrated ATS. Should be easier to do candidate searches, and provide a calendar application.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I hire account roles and digital marketing roles for a large advertising agency.

  ### 20. User Friendly!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

The employee engagement tool is very user friendly. The reporting function is very intuitive.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

It would be nice for the "super user" to have more control over updating fields and and information on the back-end of the product.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

Ask for an implementation guide. You don;t know, what you don't know. It can be very frustrating when setting up a system to later find out you had "options" for customizing certain fields, portels, etc.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Employee Engagement. The action planning tool is very helpful for preparing for meetings with management and helps with accountability.

  ### 21. Kenexa Review

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

I enjoy the ease of use and appealing user interface

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

Errors and slow processing happen often, and I've had situations where I've had to log off and log on again.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**

User-friendly and appealing user interface.

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recruitment

  ### 22. I enjoy using it more than some of the other products i have used

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Pharmaceuticals | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

being able to quiclkly go through candidate profiles

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

lack of searching capability. i find it clumsy to search for candidates in the system

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

staffing needs. not too many at this point

  ### 23. Kenexa BrassRing Not My Cup of Tea

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2014

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

It does allow for organizing candidates.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

not user friendly, looks old, not intuitive

**What problems is BrassRing solving and how is that benefiting you?**

tracking candidates -- being able to see a candidate through the hiring process

  ### 24. Slow but effective

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alejandro C. | Sales Enablement Leader, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2013

**What do you like best about BrassRing?**

It's easy to find stuff through Kenexa. I usually have more than 2-3 openings going on at the same time, and the fact that we can use Kenexa to sort out candidates makes it easy for me to go through specifics, either by Req # or by candidate type or candidate status. It also helps me communicate better with our recruiting staff as everything goes through the system.

The smart approval option is also a neat feature.

**What do you dislike about BrassRing?**

It's too slow. Also, not compatible with the latest Internet Explorer update.

**Recommendations to others considering BrassRing:**
