**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

with HTML and CSS. It doesn’t feel bloated, so it’s easy to jump in and get things done without digging through a ton of unnecessary features.

I also really like the Beautify and Beautify on Save features. Being able to automatically clean up and format code keeps everything consistent without having to think about it, which is a small thing but makes a big difference when you’re working through a lot of files.

The interface is very straightforward as well. Everything is where you expect it to be, which makes it a solid option whether you’re doing quick edits or working through a larger project.

Overall, it’s just a reliable, no-frills editor that works really well for day-to-day HTML and CSS development.

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

This is one of the best editors I have ever used. Easy to install. Easy to setup. Suitable for HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, Python as well as C,C++ and Java.

I use it mostly for developing web applications using PHP.

Moreover, the editor is completely free to use.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

Brackets is just an editor and not a full fledged IDE. So you will have to try other options for building and executing code. However, extensions are available which can help you out.

The development of Brackets has been discontinued and new versions are not being released anymore.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

Try it once. You will love it.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Brackets primarily for developing Web Applicatoion using PHP. All code including HTML/CSS and PHP, is being done on Brackets. Also, Brackets has good support for Javascript as well, which makes it easier to write client-side scripts.

It takes more time to open large files; sometimes, it hangs between XML file codes and has fewer default themes. I prefer dark themes, so I am ok with the default dark theme; it won't assist with proper code suggestions

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is brilliant and suggestive while working with frontend tech files; it is time-saving with an auto-completing code feature, theme customization is big feature i have seen which helps me create my own customised theme

I have been using brackets for more than 1 year. I am not a programmer but I need to coding, related to my company works. At first, it was very difficult for me to edit my code in wordpad or notepad. After all I decided to find a solution for my problem. I searched over the internet and found brackets. I wondered as it is a free tool! Brackets stand out from other code editors because of it's ease of use, intuitive UI, live preview etc.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

Sometimes when I try to edit some part in a large code, bracket become stuck and not working properly as it do for smaller codes. Previously, I tried to edit a stylesheet which contains too much styles and bracket closed unexpectedly.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There are lot of pros to say when it is about brackets. First of all it is free to use. It saves my time by having an intuitive UI that anybody can understand easily. It's live preview optione helps me to edit code according to the preview as both can be done in same time.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rohan S. | Technical Lead, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

The most helpful feature that I like the most is how it goes to the specific declaration of function if you click the call of the functions. Also, almost unlimited extensions play a crucial role in keywords for development. The folder system in the sidebar helps stick to the project. Its search for specific words from the whole folder feature is astonishing.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

There is nothing to dislike about this. I have been using it for a long time and it's doing its job perfectly. Although, the only thing that I faced was understanding the right extension for the right development environment. Still, this is on me not a reason to dislike.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's solving almost all the issues I faced when I was working with other editors. Like Visual Studio, it's not bad but Brackets is very light if we compare both.

it has a easy to use UI, this was the first editor which i used, when we want to run php files we need to go to browser and write path but this is not the case with brackets, we can select index file and click on that button and it will run it.

  ### 17. Brackets- "Designed for designers by designers"

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Timothy L. | Owner / Operator / Technician, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 01, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

Brackets satisfies my development needs, and It is designated straightforwardly by Web architects and front-end engineers. Tools are integrated into the editor, that makes design in the browser simple to perform. Brackets centers around designers utilizing Javascript, CSS and HTML.

Fast Edit, for instance, one of the program's primary highlights, permits inline altering of CSS. Place a cursor over an ID and press a few keys, and you'll
have the option to see all of the CSS selectors with that ID in an inline window. It's much cleaner and neater than managing pop-ups. Live Preview,
one more of the program's champion elements, allows you to see changes made in CSS and HTML quickly on the screen. What's more Brackets likewise puts a solid accentuation on providing preprocessor support. Fast Edit and Live Highlight work with LESS and SCSS files which Adobe claims makes them more straightforward to work with. It's a cycle considerably less cordial than the straightforward customization and topic decisions presented by other message
editors however Brackets really does likewise give augmentations that any designer can make. The most famous incorporate Emmet, a fast HTML and CSS work process, which designs Javascript, HTML, and CSS documents, and record symbols for Brackets' document tree. There's additionally an augmentation for GitHub.

Reconciliation and negative deficiency of topics, including that attempt to imitate Dreamweaver. Brackets has a lot of adaptabilities, and Adobe helps designers to design extensions and get everything rolling.

Website specialists can utilize Brackets cheerfully in the information that they're involving a content manager worked in light of their necessities.
They know that their need to see the after effect of their altering has been thought of, and they don't need to venture around choices.
It also includes a manager for designers utilizing dialects that they needn't bother with. It's an exceptionally valuable and free instrument for
composing HTML, Javascript, and CSS.

PROs
A rich library of expansions made by different designers.
Upheld by a significant programming organization.
Looks great on the screen, you'll see that Brackets has been made for you.
Various addons you can use to improve usefulness.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

Brackets is focused on visual designers and front-end engineers. On the off chance that you're hoping to compose any other code, you'll think that it is
restricted and pointless. Be that as it may, if you're a website designer worried about making things a solid accentuation on visual highlights.
Your in luck.

CONs
Restricted on the off chance that you're not a designer.
Brackets is still in early development stages.
Ocassionally you might run into the odd bug once in awhile.
Addons at some point require direct assignment to work correctly.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

Try it. It's free to download. Free to use.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Currently, I help update Brackets by reporting bugs to Adobe, and development is slowly starting to gain speed. The rest of the Bracket community participates by designing extensions to help the user integrate other extensions without user intervention.

  ### 18. Amazing IDE for Web Development with live preview.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vipul G. | Web Engineer (Trainee), Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

> I like to use this IDE whenever I am coding a website as cleaner UI than some other text editors available in the market and it also has a live preview.
> With live preview we can easily load our content on the webpage it doesn't require refreshing the page whenever we make some changes in the code it just reflects there automatically.
> It has a nice color scheme to reflect the different tags, functions, etc.
> We can split the editor into two workspaces and it is really to hand if you have to make some comparisons or you have to take references from one code file to another.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

> There are fewer extensions as compared to the vs code.
> Sometimes the live preview doesn't open the page instead it will show an error "unable to preview the file".
> And it hides the taskbar and the notifications bar which is sometimes better for focus but sometimes it annoys as well.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

> Use its live preview it will make your development handy.
> Consider saving all the files in one folder then it will not show the error while live previewing.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

> I can do a live preview here which means I don't have to refresh the page again and again whenever I make some changes, it saves a lot of time and makes the development easier.
> It also creates the workspace so we can access all the files of that folder from the editor itself.

  ### 19. One of the Best Code Editor and It is Open-source and Free!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ajay R. | Content Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

Brackets is great for working primarily on web-based applications, it has minimalistic UI with great and clutter-free user experiences. There are also option to add plugins and change themes as your requirement.
Brackets is an open-source application, and you can download it for free, and I used to lot for web projects.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

What do I dislike about Brackets? It is a great code editor, and have a good reputation in the open-source community. However, currently, the most popular application is VS Code by Microsoft and it supports Windows, Mac and Linux even the web, and using VS code you will feel that Brackets are missing many popular features. Using VS code you can do almost everything, but Brackets limits you to web development projects.
Okay when was using Brackets before the VS Code, I feel lagginess on UI, but it's okay to do all work without any interruption.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

Have slow PC then use brackets

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Brackets is still great for working on a web project, it has a live preview and many other plugin features. It works with every type of PC, even if you have a slow one. I was using Brackets on my old HP laptop, which is very slow compared to the modern computer, and at that time Brackets was an awesome tool for me to build something extraodernary.

  ### 20. Best Text Editor for developers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manu V. | Senoir Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

Brackets is a simple text editor developed by Adobe. It supports almost every programming language and provides suggestions, corrections, and syntax highlighting depending on the programming language we type.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

Brackets is a good text editor and built with all the necessary tools needed for a text editor. Til my use, no issue is worth noticing and impressed with its rich features. The support provided by Adobe is excellent. They are improving the product with every update.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

Brackets is a good text editor built with a lot of features. As a developer, I'm delighted with this text editor and recommend others try this.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Brackets for writing CSS and HTML codes for developing front-end design. It is straightforward to use, and it comes up with a lot of plug-ins for CSS and HTML, which makes it easy to write CSS and HTML codes. I'm getting proper code suggestions, shortcuts, error highlights, etc.

  ### 21. The Simple, Light-Weight, and Free Code Editor for Anybody

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andi S. | Website Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2021

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

When it comes to software, Brackets is about as lean as it gets. There's not much to it and it takes virtually zero effort to hop in and get started on a project. That said, its open-source nature makes it even more powerful thanks to an active community of supporters.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

Unfortunately, Adobe has ended its support for Brackets as of this year. This leaves the application and its future somewhat up-in-the-air and that worries me because it really is powerful on its own but the concern that it may suddenly lose support entirely if the community moves on to other projects is very worrisome.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I like to use Brackets to create my HTML/CSS necessary projects outside of our web provider's internal platform since Brackets does not inject extra code while you're working. Once I've finished inside of Brackets, I can move the code to our web platform and let our providers add whatever code they need in order to make it function on our websites.

  ### 22. Great for newer coders

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Seth Matthew M. | Grad Student, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

What I really like is that brackets feels like a modern text editor. Granted, text editors are supposed to be fairly simple and paired down, but this text editor actually feels like a pleasant, modern piece of software

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

To be honest, there's really not a lot that I dislike about it. It seems to fulfill my needs really well. The one thing that I wish it did was that it made the debuggin in tools more easily understandable and that it could execute files rather than just write them

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been using Brackets in connection with PyCharm in order to write some scripts that will allow me to scrape web data from a few new sites for analysis. I have also been using it for some linguistics research to analyze the data in JSON files

  ### 23. The Text Editor We Need

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sujith S. | Senior Software Development Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

Brackets provide a lot of suggestions while writing codes, and it supports all types of programming languages. While we type the code, it shows suggestions and corrections that make it easy for developers to write efficient codes. It doesn't need any previous experience to use its tools and features. Even a beginner can quickly get it.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

Till now, I'm very much satisfied with brackets support, and they are providing timely updates for improving user experience. In the past few years, they improved a lot, and as a user, I'm satisfied with their support.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

I would recommend developers to try Brackets if they want to experience a smooth coding interface, and it's completely free and provides timely updates with features. It is the best tool for writing HTML codes now.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Brackets for developing web applications. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, JAVA are the main programming languages I write using Brackets. It supports all these languages and provides additional tools to run and check the corrections in the codes.

  ### 24. Easy, intuitive code editor

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Olaf S. | Marketing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

One of the most appealing features of Brackets is its clean, minimalistic interface. The result is more coding "real estate" within the program interface and less distraction from UI elements.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

So far, I can't pinpoint anything specific that I dislike.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Brackets to update and edit PHP, HTML, and CSS website files. Downloading the files from an FTP program like FileZilla opens them directly in Brackets, allowing me to make the required edits quickly and easily without wasting time. Color highlights within the code help me quickly identify where there might be an error with an opening and closing tag, for example.

  ### 25. Great and handy as a Tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaditya Saha G. | Software Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

The visual appeal of the product is much more than just an editor.Offering just the right amount of help required rather than nagging on with features available.

Features like Live Preview, Quick Edit, Quick View, Quick Docs and Code Hints for JavaScript, HTML and CSS. These features should help us to navigate, inspect and find the information we need at your fingertips

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

Serves the purpose of being a Web Development editor best, but for a person working on other languages this could not be a much sought after factor.
Adding plugins and customisations could be easier on the editor which would be an addon.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

Recommended for people working with the web and since written on javascript, added benefits and learning experience on the same.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working on web related projects has been a cakewalk, live previews and code hints for javascript are very good features.
If adept with using the editor productivity jumps by leaps.

  ### 27. Review of Brackets

**Reviewed by:** Anmol K. | Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

It has a very User-Friendly interface making it easy for users to navigate different things.
One of its features, which I appreciate the most is its Live preview feature which many other IDE's fail to offer.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

It has a long boot-up time which leaves a bad impression on the user working on it.
It does not have a lot of plugins integration which is quite a setback.
It sometimes lags when working on large projects.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using Brackets as a text editor for my C++ coding as I found it to be the most suitable with this language.
It has increased my productivity by 30-40 percent by only providing live preview which is just fantabulous.

  ### 28. Web Development Rookie

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2022

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

The most useful feature and what I liked best was the ability to quickly render the HTML code and open the webpage for it in a browser of my choosing. Also, I liked that I can open the webpage side to side to my code.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

I personally dislike the childish look of it. I first used it to teach elementary level kids HTML and CSS because the interface is very easy to work with but might be too simple for a professional developer.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

It's a good first step when beginning to learn web development

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I typically use it for small webpage development and tutoring students on the side. It's convenient for small to medium scale projects. I am not using it for business but only for personal use.

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

I like how it reveals when my html code is broken using colour coded type and the live previews that show how it will be seen to a customer. The preview windows are also responsive as they use Chrome.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

It would be great to get hints of why my code is broken, sometimes it highlights it as red but it could potentially give hints as to what would fix that particular bit of html.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

I believe that the way we use brackets at JD Outdoors means that it is useable by people who may not necessarily be fluent in HTML coding and new to coding in general.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have built several templates using brackets with placeholder types or images. This means we can quickly create comprehensive email campaigns, which we then upload into our email platform and send out to thousands of customers.

Brackets is just plain easy to use. It does what it was made to do, and it does it really well. Really customizable, easy to learn, and good online resources in case you have any issues.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

It can be easy to get carried away with customizations. Rather than keeping the program light and quick, it can be easy to download too many plugins and extensions. There are so many to choose from, it's a good idea to try a few different ones, but just remember to clean out the ones you don't end up using.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use brackets for building websites. I like the interface options for CSS and HTML especially. You can preview different things in many areas in the app, and that functionality is built-in by default.

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

It allows me to edit small scripts on python, bash and the eventual odd out in other language and configuration files without adding any clutter. The interface is really clean and easy on my eyes and combined with a good search function it allows me to focus on what I need to do easily. I was not a big fan at first, but my eyes really appreciate that it causes less strain after working on the screen for long hours.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

The only downside I can find only applies if you have a low spec machine, it is quite resource hungry compared with other text applications, specially when you open a file several thousands lines long, but as long as you have at least 8GB ram it should work perfectly.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Online Media | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Brackets?**

Hands down, my favorite feature is the live preview. For the kind of work I do, I need constant verification that my code is checking out and not breaking anything. Using Brackets solely for this feature has cut my development time nearly in half. I can't live without it. I also appreciate IntelliSense for all the various languages -- it makes switching between projects and languages a breeze.

**What do you dislike about Brackets?**

I do have an issue with live preview sometimes where it just stops working out of nowhere. I don't know why it does this, but it's incredibly frustrating and requires a restart. Additionally, I find it to be slow at times with specific files. I wish they provided color schemes with the software to make my life easier when I need to make adjustments.

**Recommendations to others considering Brackets:**

Look no further, honestly. This is a solution that meets the needs of most developers.

**What problems is Brackets solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm using Brackets to create websites for clients as a freelancer as well as for personal projects. It has introduced me to new languages and made the learning process less intimidating. Overall, it has been an enormous help to my business, and I have no intentions of switching code editors any time soon.
