Brackets is a very interesting text editor. What I like most is its application to detect errors in the code. On the other hand, it is a customizable software with good themes to improve the interface. Among other things, it has an excellent syntax verification tool. It may take more than a minute to start the application, compared to other editors such as Notepad ++ that start quickly. Built -in Live Preview is definitely Brackets' coolest feature.You get to view how the changes you make in your code will impact the app almost on a line by line basis. In fact, when you edit CSS, the tag that is being worked on at any particular point time will be highlighted. What is so amazing is the fact that now even changes in PHP can be visualized on the browser. This is obviously a big win because when brackets was first launched, it didn't even have support for backend languages like PHP and now it can even reload changes on it. Popup previews , especially with hex color codes, helps me to visualize and know the exact color that I am in search of. It also happens for images within the project structure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Brackets? The shortcoming of Live Preview is that it can only be achieved on a chrome window environment. This is obviously highly inconsiderate given the fact that developers try to imagine all scenarios of web usage where different clients use different browsers such as Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Brackets can only support web development languages in its out-of-the-box functionality which is not ideal because there are other languages used for other functions. Brackets' focus on front end development is a refreshing entry in a pool of editors and IDEs which mostly focus on backend languages like php and relegate html, javascript and css as afterthoughts. I have com to learn that is is exponentially easier to write design user interface modules on brackets than it is on any other editor. Brackets Live Preview feature is also one of the best things about it too. It enables you to view files in the browser with server behaviour instead of going through the file:/// format which a lot of times fails to emulate how a server would actually respond. And the fact that this can be achieved with the mere click of the mouse instead of writing up code for a server is actually underrated in my opinion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Brackets? Well, Brackets' biggest upside is also its main upset to me. The fact that it focuses a lot on the front end part of web design means that it does not effectively implement features that can assist in backend development. Brackets is able to achieve the simplicity as experienced on Notepad++ without losing core functionality such as expected in an IDE. It has an amazing plugins page from which you can find thousands of plugins that you can use to extend its functionality and thus achieve more in your User Interface development process. I also find Brackets' live preview one of the most direct features in an editor. I like the variety of plugins that can be used. There are many plugins that exist for Brackets, such as beautify, which essentially makes your HTML/CSS/JS etc. code look more appealing to the eye. Brackets is available for Mac, Windows and Linux and is a project started and maintained by Adobe. However, it’s not a commercial product but rather an open source piece of software licensed under the MIT license. Of course, the biggest benefit for users: Brackets is completely free to use. While typing, Brackets will propose code elements that fit your current input. You can accept the proposal at the touch of a button, which is a nice shortcut to writing everything out completely. What do you dislike about Brackets? The load times can be slower on older machines. However, that is kind of expected. In addition, it has good plugins such as CSSLint to highlight the CSS code errors and the parts that should be improved, and eqFTP, to transfer files from the editor to a web server. Sometimes, I have problems with the search commands, since you may not find matches for things as simple as an uppercase or lowercase letter.
