Each scan delves into the information and dependencies for all software, hardware, network, storage, and versions, providing IT with the context needed to create an application map from any piece of information about it. We can also track end of life and end of support for our software very easily as well. ### 11. Integration with CMDB has improved with the new sync functionality. **What do you dislike about BMC Helix Discovery?** Add-on licensing - especially with the buzz around cloud discovery - this requires add-on pricing in order to enable this functionality **Recommendations to others considering BMC Helix Discovery:** Support for issues or defects has some improvements that could be made - time to resolve, for example, but have also seen improvements in this area in the last year. **What problems is BMC Helix Discovery solving and how is that benefiting you?** Application Modeling for applications that exist in two different countries, eliminating manual entry for items. ### 12. Being able to identify all aspects of the IT Estate, Perform Software Modelling and provide a huge amount of data. BMC Discovery can also help with troubleshooting root cause analysis and also provides changes it the software and hardware components of a discovery run. BMC Discovery has good integration with AD and is also extremely secure in the way it discovers and stores data. The ability to use the credential vault means that the person installing and configuring the appliance does not need to know anything about the credentials being used to discovery. Everything is communication over secure connections, and has huge scalability potential, being able to deploy multiple scanner appliances and also discover all types of platforms, windows, unix, switches, load balancers etc... BMC Discovery appliance means rapid deployment, importing a VM takes minutes and configuring is very quick. The only challenges involved appear to be getting past the security team, however once everything has been explained the way Discovery works, it usually passes and after that deployment is very quick. **What do you dislike about BMC Helix Discovery?** Reports are somewhat basic but provides a high level of data, charts could be improved. If you want to discover custom software, TPL patterns are required to be written although templates are provided although a benefit to this is how flexible and specific they can be. **What problems is BMC Helix Discovery solving and how is that benefiting you?** Discovery unknown IT estate, model software and use for license management. ### 13.
