The visual representation of compiled is great as well. The default class file created is also nice for new students. It also hides some confusing parts of the file structure so that students don't need to understand .java vs .class files. The ability to run methods using a gui with parameter input is great for learning how to test code. **What do you dislike about BlueJ?** The only downside I see is that it is not an IDE that is used in industry so eventually students will need to transition to a more complex IDE. **Recommendations to others considering BlueJ:** This is great for introductory Java students. If you are looking at this IDE the other one I might suggest you consider is Replit. The color-coding of classes and loops makes it very easy to organize the information for a beginner and helped me stay productive in coding when I was not very familiar with the ins and outs of programming. **What do you dislike about BlueJ?** The simplicity of the GUI is geared towards beginners and thus becomes harder to use as one becomes more proficient with Java. If a program is terminated automatically due to some error/memory error the JVM keeps running. You have to manually switch it off/stop it to execute a program again.
