## Blackboard Reviews
  ### 1. Blackboard for the Rescue of Training & Development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rahul K. | Blackboard Systems Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

The current capability of AI that recently featured is by far the game changer for us. It helps speedup the course and assessment delivery that are designed using the AI structure and questions. From User Interface which is super easy to use for anyone, the third party tools implementation are all just amazing and super easy. Intergration is another thing that I love the most. Customer support is as a smooth as it should be.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I won't say I hate but one thing that needs to be improved is the Reporting framework.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rolling out thousands of courses across 30 plus programme and 80 plus subjects to 5000 plus students studying on campus or an online mode are not an easy task. We need a scalable, easy to use, easy to implement and equally easy to integrated solution for our LMS. This is where Blackboard comes in to the picture. The way the platform is designed and the features it offers not only makes the admin task super easy but also helps academics to manage the overall academic operations as well.

  ### 2. Bb Ultra

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rachel S. | Senior Instructional Designer and Senior Lecturer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Calendar tool = makes it easy for students to see when assessments are due, and the auto reminders are great
Gradebook = being able to post all at once or as you go is handy
Peer Eval = student feedback on each other's work is sometimes more impactful than teacher feedback
Built in rubric = make no more questions about "why did I get X grade"
Analytics = easier to track each student and assess projects. If grades are low, is it because of questions or students?
Partner = LTI tools for integration are easy to use, so long as they (3rd party vendor) haven't changed something. When they do = you have to resync or sometimes remove and then add again. Which can play havoc with the grade book, if you don't download a copy of what you had already before doing this. I learned the HARD way.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Grade book gets very complicated if you want to drop more than 1 lowest grade. If you use weighted categories, you have to make a weighted column for just that category, then have the overall grade be the total of what each of these is to get accuracy. I have to convert mine to PTS for each category so that the students can understand and verify against Excel calculations.

Additionally, if you teach multiple sections of the same course and merge so that you only have to upload in one = the grade book is a beast to separate these out and track each by course.

The lack of the ability to create and use your own badges, and lord forbid you mess up = means you can't edit them, you have to start all over again. Having a badge designed for "XYZ" requirement that all students in a program must complete is needed. They could then share that badge with all of their professors and not have to complete the assessments multiple times or upload screenshots as proof. Being able to auto-populate or follow the student is needed.

If I set up an assessment to be a completion grade, it should not require that I manually type in a number. I should be able to select the cell with my mouse and choose either complete or not.

Messaging via Bb, when we need to do this through Outlook, so thatthe legal team has a record of all communication. Plus I don't need yet another APP to track messages. I already have email, Zoom, Teams, etc...

Being able to upload video and audio files as attachments should not be allowed. They should all have to be uploaded to the My Media and then deployed.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Transparency of course expectations and grades. No more what are we doing, what did I miss, what is my grade. It puts ownership back on the students.

  ### 3. Highly Recommended for Learning & Development

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rahul K. | Senior Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Oh Where to start, I mean there's so much useful tools and features that makes our learning operations so smooth. From easy navigation, to complex business operations through Genius SIS, from scalable platform solution to integration to third-party tools and icing on cake, the support that we get. This is an all rounder easy to use, easy to implement scalable platform that any L&D or an institution need. Blackboard has evolve from just another LMS to must have platform and now with feature pack with AI capability.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

The reporting tool still needs to improve which I am sure will be on their priority list. This is one of the area where pulling the report still depends on tools like Illuminate, Power BI and/or Direct Database.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With complex academic structure distributed in more than 10 campuses. We have over 5000+ courses to rollout every year. From updating the materials to rolling out the changes to each of the courses are very challenging and time consuming even when you have a global team. This would not be possible if we do not have the Blackboard capability to realtime rollout of any changes. This has been a one stop solution for our complex needs of academic operations, this not only saves hundreds of hours but also makes our life easier.

  ### 4. Blackboard ULTRA Streamlines Learning Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John P. | Owner and CEO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Blackboard ULTRA offers a sleek and intuitive interface that enhances the overall user experience. The streamlined navigation makes it easy to access course materials, assignments, and grades. The integration of various tools such as Collaborate for virtual classrooms and the mobile app for on-the-go access are particularly beneficial. The platform's ability to support multimedia content and interactive elements fosters a more engaging learning environment. Additionally, the analytics and reporting features provide valuable insights into student performance and engagement, helping educators tailor their teaching strategies effectively.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

While Blackboard ULTRA has many strengths, there are areas that could be enhanced. The system occasionally experiences performance issues, such as slow loading times and occasional glitches, which can disrupt the user experience. The customization options for course layouts and themes are somewhat limited, which may not cater to all educators' preferences. Additionally, the integration with third-party tools and applications could be more seamless to avoid compatibility issues. Improving the user support and documentation would also be beneficial, as users sometimes find it challenging to navigate certain features without adequate guidance.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blackboard ULTRA is designed to tackle several common challenges in the educational landscape. One of its primary strengths is streamlining course management. Instructors find it much easier to organize and manage course materials, assignments, and grades, ensuring that everything is in one accessible place for both them and their students. This organization helps students stay on top of their coursework and access the resources they need without hassle.

The platform also significantly enhances student engagement. By supporting multimedia content and interactive elements, Blackboard ULTRA makes learning more dynamic and interesting. Features like Blackboard Collaborate enable virtual classrooms and real-time interactions, fostering a more connected learning environment.

Accessibility is another area where Blackboard ULTRA excels. It includes features that cater to diverse learning needs, ensuring that all students can fully participate in their courses. Additionally, the platform's performance tracking and analytics tools provide educators with valuable insights into student performance and engagement. These insights allow teachers to tailor their strategies to better meet the needs of their students.

Finally, Blackboard ULTRA offers integration with various third-party tools and applications. This integration enhances the overall functionality of the platform, creating a more cohesive and efficient educational experience. By addressing these issues, Blackboard ULTRA helps create a more efficient, engaging, and accessible learning environment for everyone involved.

  ### 5. Blackboard as an Instructional Management Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Blackboard continues to be a robust and reliable instructional management system, offering a wide range of features that support both in-person and online learning environments. One of its standout capabilities is the platform’s seamless support for multimedia content, which enhances the teaching and learning experience for both students and instructors.

A particularly valuable feature is the ability for students to submit video assignments directly within the platform. This is especially beneficial in courses where verbal communication, presentation skills, or demonstrations are essential components of the learning outcomes. Students can easily upload recorded videos or use integrated tools like Kaltura to record and submit their work, allowing for more dynamic and expressive assignments.

Equally impressive is Blackboard’s support for instructors to provide video and audio feedback on student submissions. This capability brings a personal, human touch to online feedback, fostering stronger instructor-student connections. Instead of relying solely on text comments, instructors can clarify complex points, offer encouragement, and convey tone more effectively through multimedia responses.

The discussion boards in Blackboard are another area of strength. They are well-organized, easy to navigate, and support threaded conversations that promote meaningful peer-to-peer and student-to-instructor interaction. Instructors can moderate discussions, embed media, and structure forums in a way that aligns with course objectives and encourages active engagement.

Overall, Blackboard offers a comprehensive, user-friendly suite of tools that support innovative and interactive instruction. Its support for video assignment submission, multimedia feedback, and robust discussion boards makes it a highly effective platform for both traditional and modern teaching approaches.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Blackboard is cumbersome to students as it has so many bells and whistles for them to access.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Offering students a LMS that provides them access to many tools and content.

  ### 6. Blackboard is a leading provider in teaching and learning, offering excellent support.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Beverly M. | Distance Education Technology Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Our institution is making an exciting transition from Blackboard Original to Blackboard Ultra course view. The Ultra platform boasts a range of innovative features that our students are discovering to be much more user-friendly than the Original version. Remarkably, the support we receive from our dedicated engineering team is exceptional. They consistently address any issues I raise within 24 hours, and in the rare event of a system outage—something that has happened only once in five years—they mobilize immediately to resolve it. This level of responsiveness and commitment significantly enhances our learning environment, making it easier for faculty and students to thrive. The pricing dropped dramatically when Anthology purchased Blackboard.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

It is hard to come up with a downside to Blackboard. I must say slow down on the new features until we can catch up.

when my institute does not purchase a product., I get excited, and then my institution does not participate. Ex. Video Studio. I am still waiting for the video grading that includes screen share.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Dark Mode. I put the idea in the Idea Exchange and am so excited to finally get it. I am neurodiverse (ADHD) so Dark mode is a must have.

Blackboard Ultra is really intuitive and user friendly for the newer generation. Students have enjoyed using and have not needed much instruction to use the system well. It also adjusted to the screen size making it easier to use in tablets and smartphones. As a faculty user, I really enjoy the grade center and the ability to view all assignments for a specific student. We have never had issues with support, and they usually answer in a timely manner.

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I have been using Blackboard since 2008, starting with Blackboard Vista and later transitioning to Blackboard Learn in 2010. Over the years, Blackboard has proven to be an excellent platform for both students and professors. It is highly responsive, offering a user-friendly interface that enhances the online learning experience. The system provides robust tools for content management, assessments, discussions, and collaboration, making it an effective learning management system (LMS) for higher education.

One of its strongest features is the integration with other educational technologies, allowing seamless connections with tools such as plagiarism checkers, video conferencing applications, and grading systems. Additionally, the mobile accessibility through Blackboard's app has improved, making it easier for users to stay connected to their courses anytime and anywhere.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Although Blackboard is a well-designed LMS, there are some areas that could be improved. **Reviewed by:** Eugene B. | Professor of Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I think all of the changes to Blackboard Ultra are fantastic. It is a huge improvement over previous versions! The integration of AI in creating assessments is a big feature for me.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I think Blackboard needs to be designed with more of a focus on today's college student. The learning curve is too high and the kids just don't have the patience or attention span to devote to the tool to master it. They give up way too soon and have a sour attitude about it based on their user experience.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Improving assessment design.

  ### 18. Blackboard Ultra Features review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I wish there were a few more options for grading, like being able to set up quizzes and tests to have a percentage or number of points deducted for each day an assignment is late. I also wish you would be notified as an instructor if a late quiz or discussion assignment was submitted.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to put all the materials in teach for both my online course and on campus college level courses so students can easily access information.

Its modern design enhances usability, while the Collaborate Ultra tool offers a robust virtual classroom experience with high-quality video, audio, and interactive tools like polls and breakout rooms.

More and more LTIs are being developed, which allows me flexibility to work with other vendors for third party products.

  ### 22. Blackboard is a pioneer in learning management systems and has a very easy-to-use format!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sanjay P. | Musician (collective experiences), Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Blackboard is a wonderful learning management system. It was one of the first platforms I had started with when I began in my teaching career. I am online instructor for various colleges and universities and appreciate the ease of use, ease of implementation, number of features, and the overall lay out. Publishing software integrates nicely within my courses. My students and I appreciate how the navigation tools are laid out in such a way that it is easy to know where to go for such things as announcements, discussions, assignments, and the like!

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

One improvement that I think Blackboard could have is to more readily integrate audio and video in order to faciliate the use of a variety of multimedia-style discussions. There are tabs within the discussion board boxes. Still, it could be a bit more user-friendly.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I feel Blackboard makes it easy for me teach my students. My students are easily able to understand my instructions, complete discussions, and work on additional assignments. Everything is formatted in a comprehensive manner.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I like the Blackboard platform because it is intuitive, user-friendly, and easy to navigate. It also has a number of options to manage more complex functions. I was very satisfied with the platform and its capabilities.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Blackboard was not exciting or aethestically pleasing. In an age of rapid technological growth, it is important to present these platforms with the look and feel of advanced and modern applications.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blackboard was a useful tool as a Learning Management System. As an online instructor, I leveraged the LMS to facilitate my classes. I also appreciated that it provided a convenient way to meet virtually during the pandemic when Zoom licenses were hard to come by.
