I also feel like there are a lot of functions that my team is not actively using, so we need to make time to lean in and find all of the functions that could help. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** The roll out from DBV to NXT has been excutiating for all concerned. It has taken longer, and we have all essentially been beta testers to a raw product, which builds in suspicion and fatique among users. I fear that the move from DBV will involve losing some flexibility and functionalioty that we depend on in DBV due to decisions made by the developers (such as not moving over the Mail function which I use all the time, or the solicit codes which is not the same as permissions). Much is being promised but there is natural skepticism in the user community due to how long and painful this 10 year process has been **What problems is Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** we need a CRM and we know NXT is the future so we are embracing it. We have reviewed other products and the price point for migrating is very high so we are giving this product a better try to see if all of the promised features help. They build something out 90%, release it, and call it good, but miss transitioning the remaining 10% of features that users need to be successful. Blackbaud does release new innovations to the web view that are otherwise unavailable in database view, however. So, you win some but lose some. Hopefully they will successfully transition everything over to the web based platform in time. Customer support is also deteriorating over time as they plan to move all tech support to India, and to people that have never used the platform in their day to day lives. **What problems is Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** It has made it easier for our front line fundraisers to navigate their portfolios and do simple data entry into the database. I come to my organization from a higher education organization previously that had a wealth of donor data, metrics. In this organization we are building in a smaller form and the fundraisers and users are more heavily focused on volunteer engagement. Finding the rhythm and features that support that structure has been difficult, but I know the options and functionality are there. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** Lacking customer support. We only have heard from our BBCRM team when it has been time to renew. The graphics that are included on the dashboards are really helpful to see a high-level view of fundraising dollars. The list functionality is getting there--it's not quite as robust as a query, but I can see how it might evolve. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** It's costly and prices small nonprofits out of utilizing it. Customer support is lacking, and it's difficult to get a hold of someone if you run into an issue. Blackbaud RENXT for Non-Profit Constituent Management **Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Individual & Family Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2017 **What do you like best about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** Raiser's Edge NXT is a web based version of your RE database that houses everything you have recorded about your constituents, including biographical information, giving history, staff interactions and multiple other pieces of information. RE makes it very easy to navigate a donors record using common terms like Bio, Addresses, Relationships and Gifts. The most important aspect of NXT is that it is web based, so the information can be accessed from anywhere, and on any device. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** If you were a user of the Raiser's Edge (database view) before upgrading to RE NXT (web view), you are going to notice a lot of quirky things about RE NXT that need to be addressed still, if there is even a plan to address them. One of the most concerning things is that the terminology used between the two views of RE can be different. Additionally, when uploading attachments to the Media tab/tile of a constituent record, the attachments are only visible in NXT if they are added from the original database view. If your fundraisers are adding attachment vix NXT remotely, they are not able to be seen from the database view, and often get added twice becasue data folks add them in the proper way without realizing they were already added in NXT. The reporting capabilities in NXT do seem to be much more modernized, but there was a good 6 month period of time where revenues from database view and NXT did not match. It took months of working with a product support team for them to identify a "code problem" on the backend of Raiser's Edge that was causing a doscconet between the two. Unfortunatly, due to that situation, and so many countless others, I do tell our fundraiser's that they cannot trust revenue figures from RE NXT without running them by me to double check from the database view. RE NXT has the potential to be a great tool, but Blackbaud is a huge company and they often seem to be very focused on "the next thing," rather than focusing on trying to enhance the current thing. Or in some cases, just make the current tools work properly. And once you're locked in to a multi-year contract with them, you're kind of on your own with problems and frustrations, and their customer service is terrible. **Recommendations to others considering Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT:** If you are considering RE, then you are likely a non-profit executive. Between Blackbaud and Sales Force, you really only have the 2 options. I do not know Sales Force, but can tell you that Raiser's Edge is a fantastic tool. But you need to be willing to shell out the cash for it and all that goes along with a relationship with Blackbaud. **What problems is Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** I don't entirely know I would say they are solving problems. They have a product - one that is needed in the non-profit world, but they also aren't one of few providers any more. A decade ago, I had a different Outlook. When I moved to nonprofit in 2012, Blackbaud was one of two major providers of software like Raiser's Edge for organizations that were larger. That was about it. Over the last several years, so many new players have entered the space. Now, Blackbaud is falling a bit short with their offerings, and very much overshooting with their pricing, with their current customers taking in excess of 30% increases this past year, and these 30%+ increases have some organizations seeing double digit annual increases. Many customers are leaving. Becasue there are so many other options popping up in the market, who are doing it better, cheaper and make extracting info, integrating with other software and navigating the tools easier. I don't feel as if Blackbaud is benefitting me or this organization in any way. They are simply a provider of software that we have and use daily. And given our longstanding relationship with them (nearly 15 years I believe) making the move away from them is going to be a solid 2-year journey. Now, if they can become more competitive in the pricing (a 50% cut, at least), beef up their customer service and focus on enhancing the way the tool works, they could easily become a viable option again. ### 12. We can capture biographical info, schedule actions, record wealth screenings and next steps. It is very easy to build opportunities and track the donor cycle. With seamless integration of email marketing, online giving, and Peer2Peer fundraising, there isn't a duplication of effort by staff. The ability to set up reporting dashboards is also great. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** Customer service/support doesn't *always* know what updates have happened to the system and why glitches or bugs happen. You also still can not pull the same detailed lists from NXT like you can from Database View via a query/report. There also is no way to easily bulk update actions or add campaigns and appeals. These are major issues that need to be resolved for NXT to be fully usable for fundraisers. **What problems is Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** Generally speaking, Raiser's Edge NXT is very easy to use. We are able to keep track of our donors, pull some reports, email donors, and take online donations. We also use it for ticketed events. ### 14. IF its current features sufficient meet your needs, the option to not have to use additional software and then sync/integrate/import data is a great benefit. NXT is more useful and user-friendly for front-line fundraisers than back-end data management or gift processing. There are also some good integrations for features it does not have, such as Double the Donation for workplace match giving. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** NXT specifically continues to be limited compared to its older database counterpart (RE7), which is essentially a requirement to use instead of NXT for all but basic fuctions, from gift batch entry/management to reporting. And while the available data syncs quickly between the two, many fields or options to edit are either not available in NXT or are named differently, which can cause confusion when collaborating. Many features remain farily basic, uncustomizable, nonexistent - for example, ecard options for tribute donations - and/or cost extra to have access to, like advanced reporting features (which are also not very intuitive for non-advanced users). Even the smallest improvements are extremely slow to be implimented/released - literally taking years. **What problems is Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** The ease of cloud access and visual appearance is helpful for our front-line/major gift fundraisers. They are more likely to record Actions and Notes than in the old database view. NXT is making improvements to its gift processing, batch, donation form, and email marketing features, but we currently just use this as a backup or for a specific campaign, as it doesn't have all the features we need for day-to-day gift processing or email marketing. The donation form is of the "FundraiseUp" style which has shown to have a better conversion and donor experience. ### 15. In addition all third party addons use the web api's which webview is built on but we still function in database view. therefore none of the fields match between Web view and dba view. currently due to our issues we struggle doing anything with OTC and reccuring gifts **What problems is Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** the move to webview from DBA view but they are doing it over more than a decade it seems and things change daily and a lot of the times they realse part of a solution that gets us almost there but not all the way. ### 17. We are especially grateful for Blackbaud Cover and Donor Cover. If you don't know what those are, you should find out! (months later, I still find this to be true) **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** We are very disheartened about the significant cost increases associated with this product. In some cases, this will be the downfall of Blackbaud. Non-profits must consider their bottom line and this is getting out of control. Additionally, technical support services have suffered a lot over the last few years. As a long time (20+ years) user of RE & Blackbaud products, I often feel like I know more about the software than my support agents do. I wish there was a better way to access a comparable level of support. It is easy to write checks and to balance them. I also do not like their 1099 process as you have to switch from web version to the other version to do 1099's. Example: when you update someone's event RSVP status on webview, it does NOT update on database view. Webview is more intuitive - database view is very outdated looking and clunky. However, many things can only be done in database view (ex: complicated queries, etc). Can not add a pledge in webview, etc. These issues come up all the time in our office - Negotiating pricing is a nightmare. You can create seemingly endless categorizations for the various constituents your organization deals with, which makes managing relationships so much easier. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** The software feels extremely unforgiving to learn if you were not taught by someone with experience, and it seems that many organizations like mine do not have the money to pay outside consultants to learn. It was easy to edit in real time and had the bare basics of donor information. **What do you dislike about Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT?** But the con of the interface of NXT was that it was really basic. Also, the back-end was outdated and very 90s programming. It was impossible to navigate through and you had to reconfigure from the back-end to reflect the front-end, which included inputting new donor or company information. Unlike Salesforce which outlines very well the interactions and relationships of accounts and contacts, Raiser's Edge was more of an information dump rather than a tracker. **Recommendations to others considering Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT:** I would recommend the Salesforce Lightning as that is what our organization uses to track donor information, relationships, and gifts. **What problems is Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our nonprofit used it to track donors and monetary gifts.
