Black Owl has simplified every aspect of our lease accounting. We are a PE firm with 14 operating companies across multiple industries, and we previously relied on large, manual Excel workbooks to track hundreds of leases. Now, the ability to easily add new companies, set up users, and add or modify leases, along with the push-button reporting capabilities, saves us significant time each month and quarter. The UI is user friendly and easy to utilize. There is customization of reports in the lease hub which is very helpful when filtering data. I’d like to see stronger reporting solutions in Black Owl. Right now, the reports feel limited. While you can filter items in the Lease Hub and save those filters, the options for formatting and selecting which records to include are still pretty restricted. There are also a few small bugs in the reporting module that should be corrected. Black Owl is very responsive to suggestions and do an amazing job of implementing user suggestions. It’s very user-friendly and easy to navigate. Once we integrated over to Black Owl, it was very easy to learn how to navigate the system and teach other users how to use the system. Black Owl includes a journal entry integration that sends our monthly lease journal entries straight into the GL system, which has made our process much more efficient. They also offer a variety of management reports (roll forward, reconciliation, etc.) that are simple to use and helpful for tying our balances back to our Financial Reporting Tool. In addition, the Black Owl team is always willing to jump in when questions or problems come up, and they’re consistently knowledgeable and supportive. I really like Black Owl Lease Accounting Solution because the user interface is very user-friendly and attractive. I think foreign exchange is always kind of an ongoing improvement area. It's just naturally complex and very, very nuanced. They're taking steps in terms of scaling their size, which kind of has its own challenges. As they do scale and grow, their level of support and enhancement will, I think, be greatly increased in terms of turnaround. There are a few workarounds that I use in Excel right now that I would rather not have. That goes to just Black Owl's capability of turning around enhancements at a quicker pace, which I think comes with scaling. It also supports complex requirements like multi-entity and multi-currency reporting, foreign exchange impacts, and both lessee and lessor accounting in a single platform.

I love having every bit of information for each lease in one spot for easy access at any time, which is crucial for year-end reporting and disclosures on the Reviewed Financial Statements. I enjoy the ability to generate journal entries for one specific lease or for all leases, and I can import these entries directly into the proprietary software my client uses. The software is dynamic enough to create the file type needed for export/import if it doesn't already exist.
