I appreciate the ability to re-direct links or rename links. To keep branding consistent, we moved away from using individual links for each event and instead use the same link each year for recurring events. All we change is the back end URL so direct to the new landing page for the event each year. This has also been helpful when unexpected errors required us to redirect away from a location we had originally planned to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Bitly? I have not received good support when I have questions or concerns. For instance, I could not get clarity on the number of redirects or unique links I could make each month. I was unaware these limits even existed until I needed them and found I had reached that limit. What problems is Bitly solving and how is that benefiting you? The main platform we use for hosting events, job postings, etc., creates very long and ugly URLs. These aren't a big concern when they can be embedded into a link, but this obviously doesn't work for printed materials, and also makes it hard to share the link address easily or in a memorable way. In order to print relevant and useful materials, bitly cleans up those links in a way that we can provide a short, easy-to-remember link. It's accessible and tough to break! The automated creation from a spreadsheet of short URLs was amazing, and the free trial of the pro version worked brilliantly. The custom URL option was great, and really made my links unique and identified them as my brand. Online portal was easy to navigate, and the Chrome extension made a big difference when just grabbing a link from the web. Being able to remember the URL for my Vcard download and recite it easily was neat, and made me look very professional! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Bitly? It's hard to criticise anything about it except for the price. Unfortunately (probably because they were the first) they have a lot of competition standing on their shoulders, and therefore able to do it cheaper. For someone like me with a need for just occasional custom URL shortening, I couldn't justify the price, over the competition which offered the same thing for free (for now, I guess). Recommendations to others considering Bitly: I think if you're in the market for a URL shortener which you can absolutely rely on, and don't mind paying for that privilege (as well as being universally recognised and respected) then Bitly is the way to go. Whilst I know there are free options, the tease of having the custom URL was too great a perk to miss out on by going back to the free version after the trial (unless I misunderstood the offer). So yes, I'd recommend it, and I didn't even scratch the surface of the tracking and reporting features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Being able to write down important URLs like my vcard, my CRM backend login page, things like that, where otherwise I would have needed to save the link somewhere (and wouldn't dream of typing it out - I'd have made so many typos!). Then once you get bitten by the 'shortening' bug, I started shortening everything. I make online videos, so always need to shorten the delivery URL, but then I thought - why not shorten the Proposal delivery URL, and the invoice URL, etc etc, etc! The ability to see all of the user's links in one place! That may be because we all had a single user ID and a password. The site was pretty quick while navigating. Well, no customization is allowed to the Shortlinks/bit links once created! Of course, every tool provides customization to the landing URL/destination URL. And that was all with Bitly. The automatic link creation as soon as you paste the Long URL was a terrible feature. Before I could make changes to the URL/short link, boom! The bitlink is already created, and I can't change it at all! We just wanted a tool to shorten SharePoint links to publish them in the workplace and digital media. QR codes, too, helped reach customers and run promotions. Light analytics were a bit helpful to gain knowledge on if or not a promo is working in the first 2 days and if it didn't, we would switch the landing URL so that the promo gets going. I like that there is minimal customisation for the shortURL + the ability to see insights like number of clicks, source of clicks (e.g. email, SMS, etc.), and location of clicks. Recommendations to others considering Bitly: If you need a URL shortener, this is a pretty simple one to use that replaces goo.gl after it got discontinued. For shortening the URLs, it is simple and quick. One of the best features is that you can customize your URL (basic features) without having a paid account. After customizing a URL, it's not possible to change the links which is unfortunate if you make an error or need to update a link. Bitly provides content analytics on how the URLs are being used and allows you to keep track of clicks--which is helpful for tracking email links and click/open rates.
