I have used it several times to extract and analyze data on mobile phones. The restoration of media files and instant messaging applications, whether deleted or not, in the artifact is interesting and useful. **What do you dislike about Belkasoft?** Chinese phones that are coded limit us in terms of extraction and analysis. There is also the recurring problem of software crashes during task execution, which sometimes makes them ineffective. **What problems is Belkasoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** Belkasoft had helped me several times to restore deleted WhatsApp conversations by a suspect, recover deleted media, and locate places where phones are used by thieves to take photos of their loot shares. ### 3. First off, Belkasoft allows seamless processing and analysis of device images while still staying in one app. Belkasoft also allows me to learn about the way forensic artifacts work without paying for a $1000 course by occasionally giving away free courses that are well worth the time spent. Belkasoft also hs many tools that work very well. For instance, Belkasoft X has itself and a GPT client integrated. They also have a Ram Capture tool that does the job well. Finally, Belkasoft has some top-notch tool-based training. **What do you dislike about Belkasoft?** I dislike that Belkasoft X does not parse out artifacts well sometimes. Occasionally, when I import images of Windows or Mac, Belkasoft X does not parse out the emails and other artifacts wel. This can be a dealbreaker sometimes, especially when I need emails for the case I'm working on. **What problems is Belkasoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** Belkasoft is allowing me to do rapid triage and deep analysis of forensic images. It is allowing me to crack cases quicker than if I were to be doing all of the processing by hand. Very straight-forward with no unnecessary options to choose from just to get started looking at the data. The speed of the processing of artifacts is impressive as well. You have full control over how deep you want to dig into the data at first launch with options to reprocess on-the-go as needed. A forensic tool should allow access to the data at the hex level, which this does, but with artifact parsing added as well. **What do you dislike about Belkasoft?** There are some features missing from the Hex Viewer which I am used to that I think can easily be added. Doing a deep carve of your data seems to create a "data source" for each found container file which can really over-populate the "Structure" and "File System" tabs. **What problems is Belkasoft solving and how is that benefiting you?** Having a tool that can acquire data and analyze multiple device types (computer drives/mobile device/cloud) is a plus. I also liked how Belkasoft as a company is easy to get ahold of and is available to help me if any issues arise while I work with their product. Belkasoft X is very useful as it has a wide array of devices it can process and it allowed me to review all sorts of digital evidence in one place. I was able to carve deleted data, build timelines, and visualize connections between evidence. I found it to be a simple tool to use and easy to get to grips with in a short space of time which is very important when working in a forensic lab. I found the interface clean and intuitive, and found the built-in viewers simple and easy to use. I am still in the early stages of testing it and all in all it's a great tool. Only problem is most organizations whether it be private, coorporate or law enforcement agencies have their "main forensic tool". Which in our case is Cellebrite. We've been using Cellebrite digital forensics tools since 2007 as well as our whole digital forensics team. Will I succeed in changing my organisations mind into changing our main forensic tool? I highly doubt it. They have invested very large amounts of money into our existing tools. However every digital forensics team needs MORE THAN ONE TOOL. The basics of digital forensics involve cross validating your findings with other tools. In our lab we currently use Cellebrite (Premium, 4PC, PA, Insights, Cloud Analyzer), Grayshift/Greykey, Magnet AXIOM & Outrider, Oxygen Forensics, and other SANS forensics tools. I will definately be pushing for Belkasoft X as a replacement for our MSAB tool that licensing was not renewed this past year.
