The pricing is very competitive. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** After purchasing licensing for one module or another, you cannot automatically obtain a trial for other items. EG: If you have a workstation or VM backup license and want to try out the O365 backup, you will need to buy a license (or possibly request a trial license manually). Linux support is still a hit or miss (mostly a miss), when there is a new update (resulting in a broken backup server). **Recommendations to others considering BDRShield:** Please consider using Windows for the on-prem BDR as the Linux version still has some backend issues that will pop up more frequently than the Windows version. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** With every Linux on-prem BDR server update released there appears to be a number of issues that require a reinstall. Further there have been unresolved memory leaks for the Linux on-prem server that are not resolved. Stick to the Windows on-prem BDR. ### 2. We usually get immediate reply from the support team. We try to push the product to take Virtual Machine backup which is mostly required at customer place. We haven't configure integration with any other apps so not sure how it works. If possible, please schedule a Demo session for the same. Pricing is good in Oman market. The biggest advantage is that we get Perpetual licensing as it help us to convince customer to buy than any other Vendors such as Veeam/Veritas/Acronis. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** As there is not much of talks in the market, no one really knows the product which becomes difficult to put in front of the customer. May be you can do an event and we can invite our customers to know more about your products. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mainly the file server backup which is very important backup. It helps to immediately restore it as and when required. As i mentioned earlier, pricing is the advantage in Oman market and Perpetual license is plus point as well. ### 3. Customer Support was quick to answer questions I had about cloud backup. It is used daily to backup our data as well. All are very easy to implement. Just pick an existing Server from our Infrastructure, install the Software, log in and GO. So I defined a destination Drive for my Backups. After this set up the Source-Server, picked my virtual machines and the Backup-Folder, defined the times to run the backups and how often and... done.... Ok it is a bit more to set up, but it is easy! **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** Without help from (really helpful support!), I would be baffled about the licencing and what I need for our environment. **Recommendations to others considering BDRShield:** For us, it was a thing between usability and pricing. We tried different vendors like Iperius Backup and Veeam, but they were not like Vembu. If you consider trying Vembu, write everything to the support you need. I can easily transfer VM to a backup point at any time. The Failover and Failback function let me have different choices to recover, like is it permanent transfer or temp one, and return to a replicate version. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** I can't change task name once it's created. I need to delete old task, so I can set a new task name while creating a new task. The Failover and Failback is based on that source VM is corrupt or off, so when I click failover, Vembu will turn on target VM, meanwhile doesn't force the source powered off. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sometimes VM works no well while applied an update, I can easily failover to a replicated point. The restore job, however was done in a flash and up and running in minutes. Something you would really want when you are in dire straits. Getting up and running using the appliance was quite easy. You do have to request the appliance though. Configuring a backup or replication job is quite easy. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** The interface is inconsistent with the status screens as a low point. You really have to go look for the right one and even then Vembu recommends to keep them closed for performance reasons. A bit odd, in my opinion. The whole interface experience has a bit of a learning curve that may not be for everyone. An interface designer would certainly have some tips and tricks here. Not being able to configure network drive mounts to central storage from within the interface is really a lack of functionality and a serious fail. You need serious Linux CLI skills to make that part work properly and you can't really go live without it. **Recommendations to others considering BDRShield:** All in all it does what it needs to do, it has some quirks and it does leaves things to wish for. I've used the free version to backup a tiny two-node Hyper-V HA cluster. Installation was a breeze and in less then an hour, everything worked as planned. **What do you dislike about BDRShield?** Nothing really. For my limited purpose, it just worked right out of the box. **What problems is BDRShield solving and how is that benefiting you?** I manage a few small HA clusters at different sites across the country that, in essence, run just a single application on one VM. The application has to run on-site and on-line backups are not practical (limited bandwidth) in some cases and not possible in others.
