## Basecamp Reviews
  ### 1. Not good experience

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Karol S. | Customer Success Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

It worked pretty well as long as there were 5-10 employees within the company. It's affordable and easy to manage, and I'm sentimental about it as it was my first tool in my first job.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

The bigger the scale, the more significant the communication problems using Basecamp. Also, the UI was always a bit heavy for me, the colours etc. It wasn't great to start the day off looking at Basecamp.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It addresses the communication matter within the company, and that's the first tool we used, the to-do list. It helped us open our minds to a different management patters.

  ### 2. Just go away Basecamp.

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rhett B. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The only main seller for Basecamp is in its name and history in this space. That's about it.

Basecamp was revolutionary when it first came online and sure, it probably helped organize and build successful companies in the past. Rework was and still is a great book by the founder of Basecamp but it seems that after the book's release, they failed to follow or even eat any of their own "dogfood".

A rough breakdown IMO of their success and downfall...

1999: Founded
2001 - 2007: Cool stuff
2007 - 2013: Golden Years
2013 - 2017: The struggle into stagnation
2017 - Present (2022): Dinosaur era / Extinction

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

* This is the nostalgic old tool that longtime marketing managers and PM's rebuy whenever they need to quickly source a project management tool. It's just familiar and routine to them. It's god-awful for the actual people working in the trenches (I'm forced to use it for a sub-contract client's projects, which has severely impacted my time and broken my project management processes. I use Plutio).

* The product and UI have not changed one bit to adopt new and proven UI practices

* No noticeable updates. It resembles those times when you go to visit your great uncle's house and it still has the same smell, decor, layout, etc.

* It's a one-way, non-customizable experience. You either stick to using their concrete framework and lack of customization options or you can't play in the Basecamp sandbox

* Chat function lacks any editing, rich text, or reaction features (emoji's are here because they 100% have become a faster way of communicating thoughts)

* Highly unorganized linear flow. For example, if you have to find a document or thread topic from weeks prior, you have to go back up the stack and then navigate downwards through other modules, rather than just have a stagnant floating menu or variables

* Chat has no code or additional text formatting options

* Markdown is not supported

* Basecamp's website is really slow and the lack of a modern JS static framework is noticeable. This is both time-consuming and highly carbon inefficient when it comes to a website and server having to reserve all of the page's files when a new tab is opened. Switching between pages is obnoxious

* File uploads and downloads are slow

* Notification emails are often lost or not sent (lack of granular preferences too)

* Integration with other file management solutions seems non-existent

* Search feature is very limited and not regex friendly, no advanced filter options

* Repeating from another user's review: "Team Activity overview on any given project seems to be about 70% whitespace. You have to scroll quite a bit to see everything."

* No actual desktop client so you're forced to use it in a browser

* There are few integrations so tracking projects and work requires a ton of copy/pasting and using other tools alongside this

* Overpriced

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Take a look at Plutio, Notion, Monday or any other modern project management tool.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They still exist for old-school managers to satisfy their familiarity with web 1.5 products. BASECAMP DOESN'T BENEFIT my company. It is eating away at our internal time and productivity.

  ### 3. I did not understand it

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shalisha H. | Founder & Senior Repair Technician, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Basecamp was rather difficult for me to use. It was not simple or user-friendly. I did not understand why my organization needed to use it instead of just using Google Docs and/or GroupMe to stay in contact.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

It is not simple, at all. I did not like the interface of this application. I believe that I am very tech-savvy; however, this application was not user-friendly. I dreaded using this app and refused to use it all together.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were using Basecamp in order to assign tasks to an upcoming Urban League Christmas Gala event. I truly did not see a use for it when we stayed in contact and kept each other up to date using GroupMe.

  ### 4. Not recommended for large teams

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

It's easy to share a status update with people or create a new board to organize a project. Everything is shareable internally as a URL and you can customize the layout of things pretty easily.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

It is terrible for organizing lists, filtering through tasks, collaborating on large projects, etc. The UX of this product is dated and very hard to navigate once you put a lot of projects / updates in it.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Look at Monday.com instead. Have used it at a prior company and it's a much better product for large teams look to collaborate on projects and priorities.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is supposed to help our company work asynchronously, but I'm fairly tech savvy (for a non-engineer) and it has caused more of a burden for me than it has been a help.

  ### 5. Not my cup of tea

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Having a central place to meet for work tasks

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Just didn't care for the layout and design.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None, that why we are using Monday

  ### 6. Almost worthless

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The only thing that seems to work well are the "to-do" lists and automatic check-ins. However, any project management software is going to have checklists, and there's plenty of automated check-in software which integrates into other tools (such as Slack).

For some people the lack of organization in basecamp is a plus. You can put things wherever you want. But unless you and your colleagues are good at planning your own organization rules and following unenforceable rules, everything will be chaotic within a week.

It's really easy to setup basecamp and have something workable within a few minutes. If you're a startup with 1-5 people this might be a good tool to slap together an MVP.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

There are so many things.

* The product feels abandoned. I haven't noticed a single update in a year.
* Highly-opinionated flows. If you don't subscribe to "the basecamp way" of doing things (aka: Shape-Up), you're going to have a bad time.
* Chat has no edit feature in the event you make a typo, or press enter too early
* Chat has no reaction options (emojis). This leads to a chat experience where you're encouraged to be less expressive with one another, and requires you to reply to acknowledge something (which pings everyone).
* Chat formats all multi-line messages as quotes. Sometimes it seems to randomly nest quotes.
* Chat has no code formatting options
* No syntax highlighting anywhere
* Markdown is not supported
* Website is slow. Switching between pages is obnoxious, so I always end up with 50 basecamp tabs open.
* File uploads are slow
* File downloads are even slower. I've waited more than 10 minutes for a 30 second screen recording to buffer (and I'm on gigabit internet).
* Search feature is very limited
* Team Activity overview on any given project seems to be about 70% whitespace. You have to scroll quite a bit to see everything.
* No swimlanes to organize tickets as progress is made on them. We've had to integrate a bunch of bots to simulate the behavior by moving things between custom task lists.
* No real desktop client. There's an electron app which locks you into their website, but it doesn't do anything special or load anything faster.

It seems like basecamp may have been a good tool in its current state about ten years ago. However, since every company developing software already uses some form of git, the features of github, gitlab, etc. and they have almost all the features as basecamp, there's no reason to use basecamp. Your git platform of choice + slack is going to have more features, and odds are you're already using them.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use basecamp for project management, permanent communication, documentation, and product development.

From my understanding, the company I work for now used to have no project management software before they introduced basecamp to the mix. In that regard, basecamp is better than nothing. But beyond other tools I've used in the past, there are no noticeable benefits.

  ### 7. A tool and company that have failed to modernise

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2021

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Sharing access between users is straightforward, and the search functionality is really detailed.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

There's almost too much flexibility with organisation and management, leading to messy systems with no standards, and then not enough functionality beyond basic lists and text.
More recently their internal policy has made a marked departure from our own company values and it has soured the experience of using the tool at all.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We've used Basecamp for a long time to manage projects in dedicated folders, and it has been helpful to have a directory of documentation for projects. We've also used Campfire for live chat.

  ### 8. Nothing Special - Decent Platform

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Victoria T. | Account Manager, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2020

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

I guess it is fairly simple to use and organize. I also like that you can customize your dashboard to see all of the boards relevant to you and hides one you no longer wish to see. The internal chat function is also helpful when reminding someone of a specific deadline or issue.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

This program does nothing special. Basically all of the other programs that are used throughout the day include services that encompass all that Basecamp does making Basecamp redundant for many things. Support was tough to get in touch with - I actually fixed my own problem with a quick google search while waiting on a chat response from support. I also had to turn off notifications. Even if nothing happened, I would get 2 emails a day updating me on all things that happened within Basecamp.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

This program is helpful if you have no other programs to organize files or communicate with team members. The program is not necessarily good for larger companies but can be utilized by certain departments for internal organization.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basecamp mainly solves issues with communicating with our Executives. Certain departments use this for organization and sharing specific dates, documents, and items with members of the executive team all in one platform. Basecamp also improves organization for some of our departments that do not need access to our main document storage platform. This, in turn, also makes the search function more easy to use.

  ### 9. The Juice Isn't Worth The Squeeze

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bryan P. | Head of Marketing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Unfortunately nothing. It was handy about 10 years ago. But over the last 5 years, there have been so many alternatives (that are far superior).

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

How some companies can still use older versions that what's actually current. It gets confusing switching between the different versions on different projects.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nothing

  ### 10. Somewhat helpful workflow management.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Broadcast Media | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Basecamp is helpful to keep track of workflow. It is also helpful to know the progress of projects and status of completion.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I think basecamp is messy, it is not very user friendly and requires too much time to enter projects.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

It’s helpful when all people who use basecamp actually use it.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use basecamp to keep track of projects and avoid tasks falling through the cracks. I realized that it is beneficial because we have limited email space and communicating through basecamp saves email space.

  ### 11. Organizational platform that looks clunky

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The use of notifications is good and setting up deadlines. This gives everyone accountability.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Basecamp is not my favorite platform to use as it looks very old school. There are other platforms I prefer that the teams find easier.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

There are other platforms that our agency finds more useful. However, it is up to the teams if they like this platform. Our agency personally does not. However, this may be good if the industry changes more to a WFH model.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The agency used to have Basecamp, but we have shifted away as it was not useful and we moved over to other easier methods.

  ### 12. Basecamp is great for your grocery list

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shannon F. | Senior Project Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The interface is easy to use, you can't deny that. It's nice to be able to use keyboard shortcuts within the program to quickly search to projects or content you're looking for.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I don't even know where to start. Having moved from an enterprise-level project management software to Basecamp, I really find it to be lacking. It is a single axis system. It's fine if you manage tasks that aren't sequentially tied or dependent in any way, but if you manage a large volume of complex projects, it's only going to cause you headaches. There is no native time tracking solution, you must purchase additional integrations, and the reporting functionality is non-existent. There is no native way to view all tasks for all team members, only one-by-one, leaving limited visibility into tasks, priorities, or time tracking as it relates to an individual to-do.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Don't switch unless you are truly just managing individual lists of to-dos that are INCREDIBLY simplistic in nature.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The only problem we solved with Basecamp was to move to a system that was so simplistic that it was impossible to not know how it functioned. Past that, it's only caused headaches for our resource and project management teams.

  ### 13. Not my favorite team organization platform

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa J. | Associate Planner, Government Administration, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Basecamp has a cute inferface, and has a way for a running chat with other team members or collaborators. You can organize by dividing each section however you wish

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Basecamp is not intuitive, or highly customizable, Although you can divide each section the way you need it to go, if you don't remember where you put something you have to search around. Once you click on each section, there is a long running chat between team members which I feel email could do exactly the same thing. It's not easy to use and the platform is highly dependent on the administrator of the group.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

I like Basecamp for what it does, if you want to keep things impartial and away from personal email or from other team members knowing your phone number. Emailing and texting can achieve the same outcome, and it is not easy to use. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used Basecamp for a non-profit team organization area, but we all started using email and text messaging instead.

  ### 14. "Okay" Project Management

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew E. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

I would pretty much consider Basecamp as essentially a Forum. I am able to create and comment on message boards, upload media like documents and how-to tutorials and more, and I am able to integrate it with my Outlook and Calendars. It also has a platform for an online group chat that allows me to talk with other co-workers who are online which is handy.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I do not like how this program costs me $99 per month. It is just unnecessarily expensive. All of these products nowadays have recurring subscription costs and to be honest, it is getting annoying, especially when they cost as much as this does. For something like this, I wouldn't even want to spend more than $50 per month. We have enough expenses as it is and to have something like this that raises that expense costs up by a lot is just not even close to good.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This program allows us to be more productive and keep things in order, keep track of things, and more. It allows us to build our own forum for our company and collaborate with and advance our output. Compared to some other competitors of Basecamp, we are also saving a lot of money as others tend to charge multiple hundreds for the same or worse.

  ### 15. Too Social Networky

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

I used to love it back in the day, before circular avatars and overly softened design. It was simple. It made sense. Now there's really nothing I like about it.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Almost everything. When Basecamp re-designed several years ago, their focus was on making the interface too much like a social network. Every user has a circular avatar. Emphasis seemed to be put on discussion and posts and less and less on productivity.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Switch to something else. Freedcamp is better. Trello is ok. Basecamp is overpriced for what you get.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was using it to manage projects. I couldn't take advantage of any benefits because it wasn't productive anymore.

  ### 16. Basecamp

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The communication tracking in the software is helpful. Allows for easier tracking of participation.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Not much, I was a third party on a project

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were on a project and the vendor initiated the program

  ### 17. WARNING - Basecamp's Significant Policy Flaw Could Cost You.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

It is a project management software that is maybe better than nothing.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

"Warning" Basecamp give all rights to the person who sets it up. If the business owner is not named the "Owner of the Account", they are at the mercy of the IT guy. Without a court order, BC will pander to the employee/subcontractor over the business owner. I wasn't that happy with BC to begin with, but it is project management software that the IT guy suggested and now, maybe I know why, with this type of misguided policy. BC is very much designed to create and promote ransomware type situations. No telling what else is in their fine print, if they are purposely designed to be this blatantly biased for the employee and against the owner. You would think common (not so common anymore) sense would dictate the one who pays, is the rightful owner. Business owners, switch while you can. IT people - New revenue stream, set up business on BC for free, then hold them hostage until they pay.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Read the fine print if you can find it. Make sure you are the Owner not just an Administrator. Otherwise the BC owner will have all the rights to BC info that you have paid employees to populate and you'll have none.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When used, like any project management software, it helps keep everyone in the loop. However, if it is not intuitive and uploaded info easy to retrieve, then employees will avoid it as it seems to add more to their efforts with few benefits. Hard to get employees to use it properly. Too many redundant clicks to load a new project.

  ### 18. Too Busy for an Effective Software

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Basecamp is used by many colleagues. Thus what I like best is that we can all connect.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

It is just one more thing to look at. And it's too busy; there's too much in Basecamp which makes it hard to manage.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using it for keeping multiple committees' activities visible and synchronized.

  ### 19. Find another communication software

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Machinery | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The only thing I like about basecamp is the integration with outlook.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I really dislike the navigation of basecamp and all the extra unnecessary tabs.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

I would consider other methods.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am forced to use basecamp for some of my vender communication but I prefer trello.

  ### 20. We love Basecamp

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Venture Capital & Private Equity | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Basecamp is both freeform and structured. It gives us real flexibility in how we organize shared information on multiple projects and programs.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I would love to see a more comprehensive search function. Sometimes it is difficult to locate older files.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We just had folders of data before and now we have a real system for storage and collaboration, Basecamp has saved us several hours per day per person.

  ### 21. My experience of Basecamp is that it is "rubbish"

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sheila H. | Self-Employed/Freelance Credit Controller, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

I don't think there is anything I like about Basecamp. I used it for one of my clients and found it cumbersome and long-winded. There are other much more user-friendly applications out there such as "Xero", which is brilliant, and enables me to accomplish a lot more work in a lot less time.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

It's long-winded, cumbersome, creates more problems than it solves!

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Go elsewhere

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Rather than solving problems, I found it created problems.

  ### 22. basecamp... Eh...

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

not much. Using Basecamp did not enhance my project management abilities enough to warrant an astounding review of the product. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. Just another platform to have to learn and navigate.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

most things. It wasn't super user friendly. It didn't have anything new or exciting. No new functions or tools that can't be found in every project management platform out there.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

do your research

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

project management

  ### 23. Not very user friendly

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas B. | Associated Scientist, Hospital & Health Care, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

it can be helpful for organizing various teams and events.
It can also double as a way to share files and store institutional knowledge

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

It is not very user friendly and the interface is very confusing to use. Furthermore, it can be slow to upload files and accessing them can be a chore. It also sends way too many emails that are unnecessary.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

it was ok at organizing teams and sharing information amongst team members. But it was slow and not user friendly. We switched to using google drive and slack instead to accomplish the same goals.

  ### 24. Too much

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

You can keep project assets in one place

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I receive too many emails on subjects I don't need to be concerned about.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping everyone somewhat on task.

  ### 25. Useless

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

I do not enjoy using Basecamp. The unified interface is really difficult to navigate and understand. The layout is not user friendly.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I do not like how difficult it is to navigate through. The idea is nice but I would rather use Microsoft Teams.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Look for other options to collaborate with a team. Basecamp is super confusing.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am collaborating with various employees. The benefits is the tool it a great idea and one spot to store a lot of information.

  ### 26. Basecamp is okay

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

It's a fine system for project management, but it's not my favorite.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

It's difficult to keep track of projects and to see them all at the same time. There are too many steps, and it takes too long to go into each task to see the full picture.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Use trello or another system instead.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nothing really...

  ### 27. Rather hard to use

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Religious Institutions | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The ease of receiving graphics and finding graphics from the past.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

It’s not easy to use as a large team with multiple projects.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We no longer use Basecamp because as our team grew it was harder to use.

  ### 28. Too basic

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Organized themes / topics for collaboration

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Hard to navigate between sections. Not great visibility.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Was fine for housing meeting notes and agendas for historical reference

  ### 29. Run away from basecamp

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jorge S. | Solutions Architect, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2018

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Nothing... nothing at all. I can believe how many people had used this tool for so long.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

How to begin? Image trying to manage a project or any kind of initiative with a shared pen and paper notebook. Well, Basecamp is pretty much the same with the only advantage to having it online and shared among a team. Searching stuff in basecamp is a nightmare and keeping track of activities is useless. Whoever uses Basecamp for project management is simply trying to do ad hoc project management. And that is not necessarily good.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Use something else. There are plenty of better platforms out there.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Project management and client progress communications. No real benefits there as the process needs to be heavily complemented by a lot of human intervention.

  ### 30. Start-ups can be helped with it

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cezar A. | CEO, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

You can control files, user and documents with Basecamp

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Visual is ugly, hard to use, is not user friendly and I use other software at the same time that I can guarantee you it's away better.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Company tasks and stuffs, manage our projects

  ### 31. basecamp

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

multiple files may be shared with the team

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

hard to use, doesn't send automatic email when edits are made to shared doc

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None, it is easier to use googledrive

  ### 32. If Group Chat was a Labyrinth

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marin J. | Content Writer, SEO, Writing and Editing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Basecamp succeeds in being a one-stop shop for group project communication. Group members can send emails and share files to the project's Basecamp.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

The site is poorly organized and it is easy to miss pertinent information. When there is an online conversation, hundreds of notifications pour into your email. Turning off notifications means missing out on important updates.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Find another service. Work will inevitably fall behind when people miss message.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basecamp is designed to keep all of the information and discussion for a single project in one place. It is used to track progress on some of my periodical articles.

  ### 33. Basecamp

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Ability to access files and summaries of projects from any location.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Did not seem very organized, quite possible it was due to the person who set it up for the organization I was working for but not sure.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Make sure the person setting up projects is organized b/c if not it can be hard to follow. In my experience (which was less than 6 months) the projects looked like everything was just grouped together no order, logic or priority. I'm not completely sure if the issue was the program or the person in the organization who set it up and would be curious to give Baseline a second try.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ability to access files and summaries of projects from any location.

  ### 34. Previous Versions of Basecamp Wete Better

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2018

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The dashboard lookes nice ans organizing information was easy. The chat was also great to have.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

The client access was nothing but glorified emails. Baseball 2 was much better with allowing client to have access to projects.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organizing internal communication and Tasks around certain projects were great.

  ### 35. Not so hot.

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kenneth C. | Architect, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The web app has cute graphics and color scheme. The mobile app matches the desktop experience in graphics.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Not able to view documents in the app without downloading.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Team communications on 2 projects. No benefit to use. Email and text just has usefull.

  ### 36. Basecamp is pointless.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashlee B. | Project Manager, Communications, Non-Profit Organization Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The thread and search features are useful in finding conversation.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Everything else about the platform. It essentially does nothing that simple email and file sharing cannot do.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Don't.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our team interfaces with our outside web developers to manage projects. The benefit is that all conversations are archived.

  ### 37. Perhaps good for some applications, not great for law firm marketing by a third party

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Honestly, I guess the best thing about it is that it allows a communication blast of a recap of what happened the last week or whatever reporting period on which it works.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I don't feel like it really solves a problem that dropbox and email don't solve...

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

It may be a useful tool for some, but it is definitely not a useful tool for law practice marketing interface with our marketing firm. Everything seems too scattershot.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No business problems, but no real benefits realized. Perhaps it's just ill-suited to our application.

  ### 38. Basecamp is somewhat confusing

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brittany M. | Senior Account Executive, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 11, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Basecamp is not something I enjoyed using but the one advantage to using Basecamp is that everything was in one place!

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I really disliked basecamp and would not recommend it. I did not find it very user friendly

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

I would much rather use Google or Outlook as I find those tools to be more helpful and user friendly!

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allowed everyone to have a hub so that you could all connect in one space but I as I said I did not like using basecamp

  ### 39. It's okay, but definitely not the greatest

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melissa M. | Director of Social Media, Writing and Editing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

I like that you're able to have team members and create discussions. You're also emailed every time someone contributes to a discussion thread so you never miss anything.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I really dislike that you're extremely limited. You can't spend all day on this platform. There's just not much to do. You can't create task lists or keep track of time. It literally is just a website used to host a discussion board for employees.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

If you want a secure open line of communication between employees and managers or specific groups of employees, this will be perfect. However, keep in mind that this is pretty much all this website platform does.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Communication with employees and management.

  ### 40. Basecamp was a slower version of Slack

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Management Consulting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Ease of sign in - Basecamp is easy to sign in and get started on using. It was easy to set up teams and access across different companies/collaborators.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Basecamp was bulky to use. Our team quickly switched over to Slack because Basecamp seemed a little too "formal".

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Basecamp works best for much larger teams, i.e. when 10+ people need to see the same message and reference it regularly. It is not as good for singular delegation or opinion tracking

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Team communication, keeping all conversations related to one topic consolidated to one place instead of following individual email chains

  ### 41. Limited features

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sharon B. | Sql Database Administrator, Marketing and Advertising, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 27, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Basecamp is easy to have discussions. It does allow for collaboration.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Basecamp is difficult to schedule and plan with.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Task/project tracking. Easy discussions.

  ### 42. Basecamp is very unorganized

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Basecamp is nice when you have clients that cannot get access to your internal systems such as Sharepoint or Confluence.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I feel it is very disorganized and not simple to find anything.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

I feel they need to organize things better. Campfire is a mess and its hard to tell who people are talking to. It is also hard to tell when a new update has been posted rather than just an unread document.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sharing documents with internal and external business partners

  ### 43. Antiquated Sharefile software

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taylor T. | Designer, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2016

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

You are able to share large files that our email server will not allow. The program allows for multiple uses inducing clients and project managers.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

There is a lot of front end work to set up projects and include participants. There is also no way to link this into your outlook mailbox. The interface is also confusing and is hard to organize projects.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to share large files and completed sets of building documents with multiple people at once.

  ### 44. Not that Great.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Music | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

It's a platform to publish a website. I like that it is easy to use, and anyone can use the back-face of the website with little training.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Basecamp isn't the greatest format. It is almost too simple and doesn't have many adjustments available that I have seen. It's also very gimmickey for me to use with other people. When something is gone, it's gone.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using it for website function. It makes a website.

  ### 45. Terrible software with a lot og GUI gimmicks that are just in the way

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Nothing! It was confusing me all the time, and it was really bad expirience to use it

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Basically everything, GUI usage, too much details which render app unusable and you easily miss important things

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Basecamp 3 is worse in every thing I mentioned

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used it for software development as quality engineer. Helped to communicate with team members

  ### 46. Basecamp Review

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The Basecamp interface was fun and engaging.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Basecamp was a bit disorganized - while a lot of people could post, the information shred was not well organized.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

We didn't purchase it but rather used it in conjunction with a vendor.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basecamp was used for a software implementation. While the implementation was successful, Basecamp did not help as much as it should have (based on its functionality).

  ### 47. Base Camp a bit cumbersome

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Online Media | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 09, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

I enjoyed the fact that we could keep all of our information in one place

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

it was cumbersome and awkward. It was easier to use a facebook group to keep everyone on the same page, and share docs (or google drive)

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

there are better tools out there

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

trying to keep everyone involved up to date with the same docs and information

  ### 48. basecamp

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

file upload process is easy for a project

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

I don't like the conversation trails on each project

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

communication between designers, etc.

  ### 49. Difficult to follow conversations

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2017

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

Keeps conversations in one consolidated place.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

Difficult to follow conversations and clients find it confusing to use.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

Huddle is MUCH better than Basecamp for Project Management and Media solutions.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Consolidating conversations and files, which is nice to keep in one location.

  ### 50. Not recommended for detailed project management

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tanya F. | Director of Executive Project Development, Hospital & Health Care, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 09, 2015

**What do you like best about Basecamp?**

The interface looked nice and it was fairly easy to set up and move between projects and tasks. Since Basecamp is web based, it made it easy for all users to access whether they were on location or remote. The speed was good as well.

**What do you dislike about Basecamp?**

There were no features built in for tracking or accountability. People could upload notes and documents, but there isn't reporting available for a way to export a project plan and easily track deadlines being completed or staying on point. I also couldn't connect budgets, costs or risk into the projects. The program became as convoluted as everyone just sending emails back and forth and users lost interest and stopped logging in.

**Recommendations to others considering Basecamp:**

If your company is small and you don't have corporate sponsors who want a status report that includes traditional tracking elements like a Gantt Chart, then this could be the simple communication tool you need to house everyone's notes and documents under one roof. However, if you need a task based plan that can export into Excel or something similar to show the dates and deadlines of all tasks, along with a timeline or charts, this may not be for you.

**What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was attempting to find a software solution that would allow project owners, sponsors and support staff to easily share project status, however, I realized that Bascamp was more of a communication tool than a tracking tool. I was not able to find much benefit in this product and had to abandon it since I had to use other project management tools for tracking and follow-up in addition to Basecamp, which in reality added a step for me to go in and check for updates and then manually update my project plan tracking documents.
