The Basecamp 5 migration has been the worst product update experience in years of use dating back to Basecamp Classic Dozens of process-breaking workflow changes shipped with no opt-out or legacy mode Admin control over participant notification settings was removed; users must now manage their own notification preferences per project individually, destroying any ability to manage this at scale across hundreds of projects Project list access, archived items, templates, lineup, and other frequently used features were buried behind search bars and nested menus with no direct navigation Support response to every reported issue has been a consistent "sorry, that's the way it is now," with no acknowledgment that the changes broke real workflows Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Basecamp was very easy to use and very quick to load. However, the number of features to use is not so great. We used it very frequently since it was our number 1 platform for internal communications but it lead to different departments seeking alternative PMTs to add to Basecamp to make up for the features we were missing. All-in-all, it's an OK tool to use if you're just getting started with your company and you need someplace to add to-do lists. It is helpful for task management and having a platform where all employees can view each other's tasks which helps with collaboration. It is intuitive in it's layout which makes it easy to use. Basecamp was simpler than some other organizational tools that I've used, so the simplicity was nice for new people having to learn how to use it. If anything, it was easy to learn. It felt somewhat like having a bunch of Word documents organized into a tool - it really didn't do much for us beyond that. It was almost too simple and didn't feel worth the cost. It is nice that you can collaborate with people within your organization as well those outside of the company. It is simple to create folders and drag and drop files into those folders. Unless the projects that I've used just weren't set up as intended it was very difficult to determine who put what where and when. There was almost TOO much freedom within the program itself. You could turn on and off who you wanted notified when things were posted so critical information was missed. It is great in theory, but I think that a bit more control would be better. Its simple communications app does well. It does what it's supposed to do. I think this would be good for a small business with a small team. The Basecamp support is good. Basecamp is easy to use but does lack professional features and security in mind. Sharing documents is widely open and does not have granular options. The look and terminology of the applications feel a bit elementary. I think some businesses may like the app's simplicity, but for us, it doesn't fit well or provide any further benefits with other communication apps in our system. Security is limited. This application is for small businesses that do not require a lot of security around file sharing and access control. Our business is scaling, and the security level is increasing regarding user access and file sharing. The app does not have a well enough centralized admin panel. So when it comes to scaling and making new roles with different permissions access, well, it just can't do it. We also realize that we have other applications that can do the same features. The cost of Basecamp became our main point against it because when we compared it to the cost of acquiring Microsoft 365 (which includes Teams, Office, Lists, Planner. etc.), it made more sense to solve all our collaboration needs with Microsoft's tools.
