**What do you like best about BackBox?**

I appreciate that BackBox keeps our branches connected, allowing me to restore service quickly when a device fails. The version comparison feature is particularly useful, as it shows exactly what changed and when, which saves me a lot of time. I like that BackBox backs up and manages network equipment configurations without any hassle. Its clear interface makes daily operations simple, even with a large number of devices to manage. The automation features, especially for scheduled backups, compliance checks, and configuration comparisons, are quite effective. BackBox is reliable—backups run smoothly, and restorations are straightforward when needed. I also value their support team, which is responsive and knowledgeable, crucial in avoiding downtime in a network environment.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

A few of the more advanced features carry a longer learning curve, especially for unusual scenarios or deeper integrations with other tools. The interface, clear as it is, could stand to be more customizable for particular use cases. And depending on the scale of the infrastructure, processing times on larger operations leave some room for improvement, though they remain acceptable in most situations. The trickier ground has been building custom automation scripts for less common device types across our branches and wiring BackBox into our other management tools, where the setup is not always obvious from the documentation and takes some trial and error before it behaves as expected.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

I really value how BackBox handles backups, configuration management, and compliance checks all in one place, allowing them to run on a schedule which takes the guesswork out of keeping everything consistent. The automation reduces the margin for human error, providing me real peace of mind. Plus, having centralized control greatly contributes to the reliability and security of our network without adding extra complexity to my day. Automated backup verification engine verifies that all network configuration files are readable and uncorrupted. Our firewall parameters are checked periodically without affecting the running system. Our multi vendor infra has granular recovery options for disaster recovery scenarios, we appreciate that.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

When loading inventory reports for a large number of managed network elements, the interface responsiveness is reduced. Custom script builder does not highlight syntax and validate errors in real time for proprietary command lines. To make changes to compliance policies that are advanced, you need to click through several nested configuration menus that lack modern visual layout. The notification agent may send duplicate alert messages every time there is a consecutive network discovery.

Our crew manually collected configuration files from hundreds of various switches and firewalls, each week. All collection is automated here and the snapshots are securely stored in an encrypted repository. I love the platform's feature that checks syntax and confirms rule changes are sound before they're implemented, reducing guesswork and allowing experienced team members to delegate tasks without close supervision. The change log is a reliable reference for tracing or rolling back any alteration, and the rule checks ensure invalid changes are caught before reaching live devices. The initial setup was quite simple, taking a few days without major problems.

Over time, building custom integrations for very specific or unusual network hardware can grow somewhat involved, and writing those definitions from the ground up calls for a fair degree of in-house know-how. In certain cases the platform would also benefit from sharper situational awareness when planning an operation, such as recognizing what traffic is live on a link before a change is laid out.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

Its platform offers an extremely reliable way to schedule and run automated configuration backups for an almost unlimited number of network and security vendors at once. Its one window view enables us to have visibility across our entire global infrastructure from one pane of glass. The automatic validation is greatly appreciated, as it ensures that all saved configuration files are uncorrupted and fully usable for immediate restoration, in case of system failure.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

The initial setup is very complex and involves lots of manual scripting to set up custom backup hook for non-standard legacy hardware. The internal alerting system does not allow us to filter the alerts very granularly - which is creating us a lot of annoyance in the form of repetitive notification e-mails for minor non critical events. The log viewing interface seems very cumbersome and slow to navigate when encountered with failed automation tasks and a tight timeline to troubleshoot the logs.

It reduces the noise of configuration drift, and automatically implements corporate compliance baseline and hardening guidelines throughout all connected infrastructure. **What do you like best about BackBox?**

BackBox helps me not to have to think about using backup for network devices every day. I like it because it can save me on having to do a lot of scrambling when a config is accidentally changed. Once one gets used to the layout, it seems pretty straight forward. It also makes it easy to review the backup history when I want to determine what's different.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

There are a few areas that are a little tired and vintage in BackBox. It's functional, but on the surface, it's not particularly modern or user-friendly. It may take a little patience to set up, particularly if you have a combination of various devices. I also hope that some of the errors could have been explained in a more straightforward manner.

**What problems is BackBox solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When something goes wrong or someone changes something wrong, I don't lose my network settings thanks to BackBox. It provides me a safer option to roll back rather than reminiscing my settings and values back via memory. This saves time, and less stressful outages. It also makes me more confident that I can follow any changes rather than making wild guesses about what went on to happen.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

The automatic network device backups are a lifesaver, no more of having to remember to back up with CLI commands. 200+ routers/switches are backed up daily, and it works perfectly, even with such a diverse vendor mix as Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto. We've been able to use the one-click restore twice when we've had some misconfigurations, last month a junior engineer fat fingered one ACL and we rolled back in less than 2 minutes.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

It was a pain to find and categorise hundreds of devices manually, but it was worth the effort. Using older firmware versions (such as legacy Cisco IOS) can sometimes result in errors when backing up that need to be manually retried. The UI is functional, but has a bit of a dated feel to it and navigating between device groups could be more intuitive with newer cloud tools.

**What problems is BackBox solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before BackBox, we would be living in fear of undocumented configuration changes, and using spreadsheets for backup tracking, until a failed switch exposed our "backups" as 6 months old. Now, instant rollback and versioned histories are available for all devices, automatically backed up. The change tracking has also eliminated the blame game: If a firewall rule caused an app to fail, we'd quickly be able to identify the specific change and who made it.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

I really appreciate how BackBox takes the manual backup grind off my hands by automatically pulling configs from around 400 devices nightly instead of having to log into each one. It has been a lifesaver for audits and change-management, especially with config versioning that helped us prove PCI remediation in a day rather than a week. The pre-change backups provide one-click rollbacks when a push goes wrong, which is comforting. I also love that the alerts catch unauthorized changes early, allowing my team to focus on more impactful projects. The integration with our SIEM and ticketing systems is seamless, automatically generating tickets and helping us stay on top of things. The installation nearly drove me up the wall. Standing up the server and getting credentials and device profiles configured took far longer than I'd budgeted, which dragged out our whole rollout. I'd also be remiss not to mention the customization ceiling. When we wanted to tweak certain settings, the options just weren't there.

We have been running through our large firewall fleet without a problem with the automated configuration backups. Restored failed network devices in just minutes from encrypted repository files. The ability to execute custom scripts helps to deploy critical security patches at once.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

The web console crashes very often during large scale scheduled network discovery. Customizing hardware inventory reports creates mangled data without important fields. An upgrade to the central management server will need to be performed with unacceptable weekend downtime windows constantly. Technical support will turn a blind eye to imminent issues with broken vendor API connections.

I really appreciate how BackBox solved the lack of consistency across our fragmented estate of client networks. It standardizes backups and health checks, making processes much smoother. The platform has significantly shortened the ramp-up time for new engineers, as they no longer need to learn every client's setup from scratch. What stands out for me is how well it handles the messy reality of our client networks, managing diverse setups from one interface, which used to require jumping between multiple tools for config changes. The cross-vendor support allows me to run the same backups or change workflows across various devices without learning each native tool. I also like the pre-flight checks, which prevent bad commands from hitting production, saving us from potential damage. The initial setup of BackBox was pretty smooth.

Reconstructing a sequence of events takes more digging than it should. All possible configuration archives are automatically analyzed and tested through the five step verification. Our engineering team saves time creating custom scripted payloads when they're not necessary after three thousand distinct pre built automations. We can push Unified OS Image upgrades to dozens of distributed firewall clusters at once, during unified maintenance windows.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

Deep regex patterns that are executed on text databases of several gigabytes slow down tremendously in the terminal logging engine. Custom automation builder doesn't have any interactive visual logic validator, need to run rounds manually to find minor formatting bugs.

**What problems is BackBox solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There were unverified disaster recovery baseline, and inconsistent device management patterns on each of our multiple physical locations within our security operations department. BackBox brings all our firewalls and routers worldwide together into one auditable automation solution.

I find BackBox extremely valuable for maintaining compliance and network integrity. Its continuous, automated verification gives us assurance that every device across our distributed environment stays compliant with our regulatory policies. I love how it catches deviations the moment they happen, which has dramatically shrunk our audit prep time. The automatic validation of device configurations against our policy templates is excellent because I don't have to manually oversee each device, and it flags any unapproved service or non-standard security banner promptly. **What do you like best about BackBox?**

I like that BackBox has a great dashboard that's easy to use and understand. The newer version has an easy setup that allows us to build out automations. It's like a single pane of glass, so we can log in and make sure all the devices are being backed up and compliant. The initial setup was fairly easy, just needing to set up the credentials to log in to devices and pull the backups. BackBox is very easy to work with and very open to ideas and suggestions, always pushing to improve.

Nothing really doesn't work. Just hoping for more AI integrations to automate more things in the future.

I love the nightly config backups feature of BackBox. It gives me peace of mind knowing every router, firewall, and switch is backed up with a clean snapshot every night, which is especially helpful when unexpected changes occur. The bulk config push is another feature I appreciate, as it simplifies updating multiple devices swiftly. The vulnerability scanning capability is also valuable, as it identified a CVE on our edge firewalls even before our last pen test.

Setup was rougher than expected. The UI gets the job done but feels like it was built by engineers for engineers, and the reporting module took me a while to wrap my head around. **What do you like best about BackBox?**

BackBox really has you covered with its own simple vulnerability scanning and penetration testing features. Having the option to set up scans and get reports means my time isn't always lost on some boring, manual checklist. The whole kit of parts there, like the exploit library, lets us test against actual attack stuff. I feel like this all helps me spot problems before anyone else knows about them, so it saves a ton of time.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

Getting the system ready to go with BackBox can be tricky sometimes, especially when you do not know what its unique structure does. I also found out that getting it set up to work with our stuff takes way more time than expected, especially if you don't know what its whole structure does. And now, even the parts we like can be a little tricky to find on their menu.

**What problems is BackBox solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Now our security is way better because all this happens automatically. We were always here taking apart different tools and had some gaps that let everyone get to know about us. Now we have a whole place where we can check everything and even run tests on them.

BackBox is also ideal in the automation of network device backups and configuration. Its capability of scheduling and checking backups on a wide variety of devices, such as firewalls, routers, and switches is a colossal time-saver. The automated checks of compliance are also greatly appreciated by us, to make sure that all configurations are in line with our security policies.

Although very strong, the initial configuration of BackBox may prove to be very complicated, particularly when it comes to dealing with a very heterogeneous network setup. The user interface is rather functional, but a little dated, and could use a more modern, user-oriented update.

Our issue of manual and intermittent network device configuration backups has been completely solved with BackBox. In the past, we used a combination of personal scripts and manual processes which tended to result in old configurations and long recovery times in case of an outage. BackBox performs well with its network automation. It also verifiably files all our critical device settings on a nightly basis giving us peace of mind and continuity. I particularly find it to be very valuable in that it is able to automate configuration changes across multiple devices with a single action, which saves a great deal of manual errors. In addition, its proactive nature of detecting and rectifying security vulnerabilities keeps our infrastructure resilient. This is an automated and thorough network hygiene solution that is priceless.

Although it is, in general, an excellent tool, the initial setup and configuration of BackBox may be somewhat complex to a beginner user. The user interface is powerful but not the most intuitive at times particularly when using its advanced reporting options. Certain older and more niche network devices can only be integrated through the custom scripting option, which is an additional step. It is not a deal killer, but it does translate to higher learning curve as compared to expectations.

The greatest benefit of this software to me is that it eliminates the aspect of repeating the same network activities again and again. Setting up configurations was tedious, but currently, I can count on the functionality of automation. The features related to scheduling of tasks are sufficient to my requirements. I also combine it with SolarWinds that helps in keeping things in check. It has made my daily work to be more structured and easy to handle.

I do not like how BackBox may seem limited when working with a very specific network configuration. One of the things that I like about BackBox is that it assists in avoiding misconfigurations of our network devices. Our online retail IT setting is full of routers and firewalls that have to be constantly updated and the platform is perfect in ensuring that any change is documented and backed up. With alerts and versioning and data provided by SolarWinds and incident tickets provided by ServiceNow we have the opportunity to identify problems before they can impact service.

A weakness that I have observed in BackBox is that it is a bit cumbersome to write reports on several devices simultaneously. At times, to get a consolidated view of all backups in our IT team, we have had to manually export data in the platform, which will add additional work.

The most appropriate thing about BackBox is that it guards our infrastructure, backing up all network devices automation. When it comes to the management of IT systems, I was involved in the process of manual backups that were costly in terms of time, and in some cases, the configurations were lost. BackBox offers a scheduled backup, a versioning facility and automated restore which is a massive relief.

My experience shows that one of the weaknesses of BackBox is that not all external alerting configurations can be configured automatically. My favorite feature of BackBox is the manner in which it looks after repetitive network tasks in an organized manner. The implementation process was not disruptive because it was seen as controlled. We have connected it to ServiceNow and our alerting systems within the company so that changes and backups are synchronized. I spend almost every day on the platform, which demonstrates how it is an important part of my everyday life. My work is much more predictable due to the number of features that are oriented to device configuration and policy validation.

A disadvantage of BackBox is that certain complex workflows need more technical scripting expertise slowing down the assimilation amongst junior team members. As part of the implementation, we discovered that some jobs could not be customized as easily as they were supposed to be customized. This affects our work as it introduces additional procedures when we are in need of deploying new automation operations fast.

The greatest benefit of BackBox to me is that it paves consistency in network operations. I use it day by day to support configurations throughout routers and security appliances, a level of manual intervention is minimized. We matched it with our service desk platform internally to record the results of tasks in order to comply. The implementation was a matter of planning, but once it was done it became part of our routine. It is able to maintain stable infrastructure due to its automation capabilities.

The thing that I consider difficult about BackBox is the preparation that has to be done at the start. Determining the type of devices and establishing correct credentials was more time consuming. Our frequency of use is high and so even slight set-up errors impacted on scheduled tasks. The features are robust, but the features can cause the environment to be technical. This added work load to our network team at the initial stages.

I like BackBox since it will provide our IT department with assurance in recoverability preparedness. The version history of automated backups of the network devices or server that has gone down means that we can have the networks reconfigured in a short period of time. It has enhanced our daily workflow, and the characteristics of grouping the devices and controlling the storage allocations have helped us to preserve the compliance as well as prevent any inconveniences during the updates or maintenance windows.

The ability to control the complexity of groups of devices and backup versions at the same time is the primary disadvantage to me. Making sure that devices were carefully mapped to schedules during rollout was necessary. The mistakes are easily spotted because of the number of times that they are used on a daily basis, which might have an impact on the confidence with the system. This is because alerting is a simple procedure, hence additional time is required to verify the failed backups and intervention.

It's valuable because even a novice can use it with just a bit networking experience. I also appreciate their technical support which is very hands-on and helpful. Setting it up was very easy, and we managed to get it up and running within a couple of days.

I would like to see Backbox continue to mature toward a full configuration management across common network and security device types. While Backbox is very strong in back and very basic config management, there is a gap when it comes to declarative, repeatable configuration management at scale. I'd like to see functionality found in Ansible and Terraform which allows me to define desires config state, manage config drift, and apply consistent conf across many devices.  Would also be nice to see some sort of AI agent that would help automate all tasks within backbox

I really like BackBox for the basic tasks of backing up and restoring device configurations. Its ease of use stands out, especially the ability to create scripts easily to gather different information from equipment or push configurations to devices. Another great aspect is the flexibility around custom and additional scripts, which helps automate repetitive specific tasks. This is particularly beneficial for backups, pre/post-upgrade checks, and config validation. Initial setup was straightforward; once you configure a service account for backups with the first equipment, you can easily replicate this setup to add more equipment.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

I don't like the lack of visibility and reporting with custom reports or trend views. Troubleshooting is difficult when a device is not able to be backed up because the logs are not easy to read and sometimes misleading, it's like only the support team can decode them. The API integration for adding equipment at scale needs improvement, for example using a CSV file with authentication to add multiple devices at once.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

I like BackBox most for how quickly it lets you automate reliable backups and upgrades across many network and security vendors without needing to write complex code.
Its multi-vendor support and thousands of pre-built automations make it easy to standardize tasks like configuration backup, 1‑click restore, OS and firmware updates, and compliance checks across firewalls, routers, and other devices. The 5‑step backup verification and configuration comparison features give strong confidence in recovery and make troubleshooting “what changed” much faster during incidents.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

The UI can feel dated and not very intuitive for new users, which contributes to a steeper learning curve when you start building more complex automations. Integrating with ITSM, CMDB, and SIEM tools like ServiceNow, Jira, or external SOC platforms often requires custom scripting or API work instead of native, plug‑and‑play connectors. It also lacks built-in real-time monitoring and incident/ownership handling, so you usually need separate tools for alert management and detailed reporting.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

I find that BackBox is an intuitive and easy-to-use tool, which makes it accessible even for users with little experience. I especially like that the platform comes with pre-existing scripts, which is extremely valuable as it saves us a lot of time by eliminating the need to develop scripts or tools on our own to perform backups. This aspect makes the process more efficient and less laborious, significantly contributing to improved productivity. Additionally, I appreciate the support that BackBox offers during the configuration of the web part, which facilitates its implementation for those who have basic knowledge of Linux.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

The execution of massive tasks could be improved by suggesting the inclusion of some notice or disclaimer when applying actions massively.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

The best aspect of BackBox is that I can maintain my workflow without truly having any additional headaches. Its installation did not disrupt our current system and its functionality matches what we need in terms of functionality. I rely on it quite frequently throughout the week since it merely makes things stable. The customer support was also quick whenever I needed assistance hence I never felt stuck during peak hours.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

What irritates me about BackBox is the fact that certain updates are rough during an initial period, and they slow me down until I become accustomed to it. Implementation of new releases occasionally disrupts my rhythm, particularly when I am closing tasks. I also believe that some of the features can be enhanced further, and therefore, I sometimes require external tools. Customer care comes in when I call but the hiccups still cost me time when I have business to transact.

**What problems is BackBox solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BackBox was simply eliminating the bother of re-examination of things that one could easily miss in the past. Its implementation did not interfere with our team, and the features align with the jobs that we have to handle on a regular basis. That is why it started using that significantly more often in our group, and it helped to lighten the day a lot. The customer support was able to intervene in a seamless manner whenever we were in need, thus making it possible to have things running in smooth flow without additional stress.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

I like that BackBox gives me a centralized, web-based interface that I can access from anywhere. Real-time operation makes it easy to see what’s happening and make decisions quickly.  Their support team is a major plus: the service desk is responsive, open to feedback, and willing to collaborate with us on custom scripts that aren’t included out of the box. I also appreciate their flexibility in adapting BackBox to support a wide range of non-standard hardware. That willingness to work with our environment adds a lot of value.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

BackBox is powerful, but it’s not yet a streamlined automation platform. I’d like to see it evolve toward a more cloud-style, infrastructure-as-code approach similar to tools like Terraform.  Right now, it lacks a true “snapshot” view of all configurations and a reusable template system that can be applied across different platforms. Common patterns exist, but the way they’re applied to different device types could be more standardized.  A more robust backend model or configuration database, plus meta-templates that can be applied to device groups, would make it much easier to scale automation. That would reduce the need to manually customize each device or configuration set and make on-the-fly changes far more efficient.

**What problems is BackBox solving and how is that benefiting you?**

BackBox gives me centralized backup, inventory, and auditing for our network and enterprise devices. It simplifies updates and collects statistics that other tools typically miss.  Its automation engine lets us handle many different operational scenarios from one place. While building the automation can be complex, once it’s in place, it’s accessible even to team members who aren’t programmers, which helps us spread the workload more effectively.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

I really like being able to access all the equipment from a single platform with BackBox. This makes managing the devices on the network easier, as I can unify, configure, and verify the status of our network equipment efficiently. BackBox has replaced the previous tools we used in the company, such as Cisco Prime and Cisco DCNM, demonstrating its ability to integrate perfectly and meet our operational needs without the need for additional tools. Moreover, although the initial setup was done by an external provider, it seemed to be a simple process where we only had to provide the necessary information to add the devices. This shows that BackBox offers a user-friendly experience from the start, which is a valuable factor for our technological infrastructure. These aspects are reflected in my willingness to recommend BackBox, with a score of 10 on a recommendation likelihood scale.

The information on the interfaces of network equipment is an area where there is room for improvement in BackBox.

**What do you like best about BackBox?**

I love how BackBox is easy to use, especially when setting up new backup and Intellicheck jobs, which has simplified training new users on the platform. The support provided by BackBox has been fantastic, always willing to work with us and assist if we have any questions, which contributes significantly to our positive experience. Additionally, the platform itself is intuitive and simplifies the process of building and automating new jobs or scripts, allowing us to focus on testing and automating tasks within our environment efficiently. Moreover, the initial setup of BackBox was straightforward, and while time-consuming due to the number of checks we've built, each check is individually easy to build, and BackBox support is always ready to help. The supportability and ease of training new users were key reasons for switching from Joval, and we've been very satisfied with our decision.

**What do you dislike about BackBox?**

I looked at using the vulnerability management tool in BackBox, and found that it doesn't add enough value compared to other vulnerability management tools to warrant switching from our existing toolset.

BackBox fills our configuration compliance auditing gap, simplifies network backup and checks, and is user-friendly, making it easy to train new users.
