Cloning apps & slots, swapping settings, and how they network all change too rapidly. The file system easily locks up when trying to do maintenance and the system is provisioned with every version of every programming language... If you use Azure Worker Role, it requires that each app has its own servers. Across multiple deployment slots you can select which branch should be deployed from your linked repository (we are using GitHub). Our production server was not deployed to directly, but was swapped with the staging slot after testing of a new release was completed. This meant zero downtime, which is great for our users. **What do you dislike about Azure Web Apps?** The user interface changes on what seems like a weekly basis, and it is slow in anything but Microsoft Edge. Improving performance across all modern browsers would be appreciated. The designers at Microsoft seem to like moving items to different parts of the interface, which makes it confusing when you're trying to find something. If there's something that we want to do, Azure has a solution for it. All stored in the cloud so we don't have to manage our own servers. Super easy to set up a new service and test it out. The pricing is pay as you go and very affordable. Oftentimes there is a free version of the service. **What do you dislike about Azure Web Apps?** With the amount of services they offer, occasionally something new will come out that will somewhat overlap with what an older service does, and it can be difficult to figure out which one to use. It's easy and has basically everything you could need (even for non .NET developers. They support PHP and Node). The documentation for first time users is excellent and easy to follow. With their Software Development Kit (SDK) it's easy to develop a true cloud oriented application and the option to deploy from a Source Control Management (SCM) makes it a breeze to have your code live. In my experience it takes roughly 30 minutes from signup to full deployment, including blob storage, queues, Content Delivery Network (CDN) and search. By now Microsoft Azure offers a rich suite of online services to facilitate all your application requirements and if it's not provided directly by Microsoft Azure, there are plenty of 3rd-party services you can integrate seemlessly into your application architecture. **What do you dislike about Azure Web Apps?** It's hard not to like Microsoft Azure as they have created one of their best products ever with their cloud offering. The one thing I find a bit confusing is the new portal to manage your cloud applications as it uses shifting blades which confuses me a lot and doesn't always work. But the old management portal is still around to do the heavy lifting and the SDK to fine tune what's needed. **Recommendations to others considering Azure Web Apps:** Even if you're already using other cloud solutions, give Microsoft Azure a spin. Use their Azure Web Apps to quickly deploy your web applications to the cloud. You won't regret it. **What problems is Azure Web Apps solving and how is that benefiting you?** We're a small business where time is a luxury commodity and deploying applications to the cloud should take away the burdon of maintaining your own servers. With Microsoft Azure's PaaS offering, we only need to focus on our applications knowing Microsoft takes care of the infrastructure and platforms running our applications. This is a huge time-saver! Also when we're building a Proof of Concept (PoC), we deploy it to Microsoft Azure to show-case it to our clients as it is that easy. Just hook your Microsoft Azure account to your repository on GitHub or Bitbucket and go! Your code is live in less than 30 minutes. ### 29. If you want to get up to speed quickly, especially for Sharepoint, Azure is the way to go. Setting up a web app is straightforward and it supports multiple technologies - java, .net, php. And they support wordpress which makes getting up and running even easier. **What do you dislike about Azure Web Apps?** I don't like the way the transition from free to pay-as-you-go is handled. I've had to call support multiple times to resolve issues related to going from the trial or free to pay-as-you go. Documentation should be better. And the ability to create virtual private networks after setting up servers. **Recommendations to others considering Azure Web Apps:** If you're building on a MS platform then Azure is a great choice. On thing to keep in mind - make sure the networking infrastructe is architected and built before building any VMs. Its impossible to add VMs to a virtual network after the VMs have been created. **What problems is Azure Web Apps solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am working on a healthcare startup and Azure allowed us to get off the ground quickly and build on a solid platform. When doing development having the tools work with you and not against you is a huge plus. With Azure and Visual Studio you can build, deploy and debug in one place and it works. **What do you dislike about Azure Web Apps?** Pricing Model - Half the time I can't predict what something is going to cost. It reminds of cell phone plans, and trying to figure those out is just as hard! **Recommendations to others considering Azure Web Apps:** If you're running Visual Studio I don't know of anything better for end to end development. And as Microsoft includes more open source development options I see things getting better in that direction. **What problems is Azure Web Apps solving and how is that benefiting you?** Where to start - first off, not having to manage servers is a huge benefit to myself, my company and my clients. Microsoft keeps the servers up to date and I don't have to spend resources on doing service patches, hot fixes or anything else like that. Also since Azure is in such high use a problem that's found by one program, when fixed, benefits all the Azure users. ### 31. Microsoft is investing a lot on it as a key factor of his cloud business, both for internal and external products. The amount of support that you can find online is continuously growing as more people start to use and gain knowledge on the platform. What I like the most is how Microsoft is continuously pushing new features to its platform, and its fully integration with Visual Studio IDE **What do you dislike about Azure Web Apps?** Some new features are still on preview, which means that they might not be available as a stable version or you might not found easily support for them. Moreover, since there are no standards for cloud providers, you are bound to Azure really soon once you start using all his powerful features. This means that if in the future you want to run your solution in another cloud provider, you will need a lot of work. Even tough this is not an Azure-specific problem, I'd like to see a much more portability of solutions between different cloud platforms. **Recommendations to others considering Azure Web Apps:** Review prices and features offered and planned based on your solution\application. It has some limitations for specific cases but with rapid enhancement releases those small constraints are covered. **What do you dislike about Azure Web Apps?** Certain constraints could become annoying, but again those cases are not the mainstream cases. Hybrid Cloud support is one of those features that was originally suffering from a constraint (only one VPN could have been established by Cloud Service). **Recommendations to others considering Azure Web Apps:** The main challenge you would face in migration of existing applications to any Cloud vendor is to understand that you need to re-architect your application for Cloud. Old fashioned monolithic 2-tier architecture is not the right architecture for Cloud. **What problems is Azure Web Apps solving and how is that benefiting you?** I've migrated an entire Saas line of business to Microsoft Azure.This includes a Website, a Rest API , a slew of SOA services and multiple SQL databases. The benefits are on-demand scalibility and availability of a Saas line of product consists of multiple web clients and back-end processors. all of this is hassle free infrastructure (Paas).
