## Azure SQL Database Reviews
  ### 1. Effortless Administration with Seamless Scaling

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jay C. | Business Development Executive, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Azure SQL Database?**

I really like Azure SQL Database because it takes very little time to administer. Automated backups, patching, and high availability are all handled for me, which frees me up to focus on other work. I also appreciate the elastic pool feature, since it lets me manage multiple databases with different usage patterns without overpaying. Integration with Azure Directory makes security straightforward, and the built-in performance insights help me spot issues and optimize queries more easily.

**What do you dislike about Azure SQL Database?**

There are a few areas that could be improved. To start, the pricing model can get expensive once you need more DTUs or vCores, especially when you compare it to running a VM with SQL Server. Also, some features still feel missing, such as cross-database queries. Finally, troubleshooting performance can be frustrating at times, since wait stats and query plans aren’t as detailed as they are with on-prem SQL Server.

**What problems is Azure SQL Database solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Azure SQL Database eliminates the headaches of managing physical servers, running backups, and worrying about hardware failures. From patching to high availability, so much is automated that I don’t need a dedicated DBA to keep things running smoothly. I also like being able to scale up or down quickly without downtime, which helps ensure we’re only paying for what we actually use. Overall, it saves me hours of administrative work each week and lets me focus on building and improving applications instead of constantly babysitting databases.

  ### 2. Easy to Use, Reliable, and Scales Well

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Azure SQL Database?**

The best thing about Azure SQL database is how easy is to work with. setting it up was quick and straightforward, and I didn't need to spend hours figuring things out. It has so many features that make managing data simple, and I use it frequently because of its reliable and easy. The great thing is customer support, they are responsive and helpful and overall, it's a good experience from start to complete.

**What do you dislike about Azure SQL Database?**

it's a bit expensive as your usage grows, especially if you need higher performance. Sometimes the pricing feels a little confusing too. Also, while it's generally easy to use, there are moments when advanced configuration can be tricky if you are not very technical. Apart from that. it works well, but cost and complexity at scale are the main downsides for me.

**What problems is Azure SQL Database solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Azure SQL database solves the problem of managing and storing data without worrying about servers or hardware. Before, we had to spend time and money maintaining on premise database, but now everything is in the cloud and scales easily as our needs grow. it also helps with security us a lot of time and effort and lets us focus on building applications instead of managing infrastructure.

**What do you dislike about Azure SQL Database?**

There are still some features that have not yet been developed, such as limited server agent functionality, and the absence of database mirroring or clustering. It also lacks certain traditional SQL features. Additionally, Windows Authentication is not supported, so you have to rely on Entra ID (with Azure AD). For legacy applications built on proprietary .NET code, support is significantly reduced, and in some cases, almost nonexistent.

**What problems is Azure SQL Database solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Azure SQL DB provides a fully managed platform, eliminating the need to worry about the underlying infrastructure. Transitioning from an on-premises SQL-based database to Azure SQL DB has saved my organisation significant time and effort. Its built-in high availability features, along with disaster recovery options, play a crucial role in ensuring our business remains operational. This allows us to focus more on managing client data rather than spending resources on database management.

Since maintaining physical machines and services are expensive and space-consuming, azure provides you with all those solutions in one platform, such as storage capacity, computation, data management, application management etc. Its pay-as-you-go model for paying for what you use is one of the best and very competitive in the market.

**What do you dislike about Azure SQL Database?**

One of the problems I faced with azure was that their customer support takes too long to respond. There was some payment issue my organization was facing and their team took almost 3 weeks to reply. I think that the UI can be improved. Sometimes it looks to outdated. Also, documentation can be improved for a new user it can be difficult to understand things with the help of their documentation. Hence, by providing better documentation, it can be easier for azure's users to understand how their services work. I have also faced issues with the network configuration. So, I think making it easier to set that up can improve the usability of Microsoft Azure's services.

**What problems is Azure SQL Database solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Microsoft Azure is solving the problem by providing all the solutions online (on the cloud) that helps in maintaining your data and work all at one place at a cheaper cost and reduce the risk factor of maintaining the physical system such as data warehouse, servers etc. All this is made easy by Microsoft Azure. it also provides security to our confidential data from attackers. I have used the azure SQL database and azure files extensively.

By using cloud-managed SQL, you can create applications that are specific to your company's requirements.
Hyper-scale storage and cloud computing without servers that can be quickly adapted.

**What do you dislike about Azure SQL Database?**

SQL Database is expensive up to a point where I'm unable to "sell" the management department on using it. It costs as little as 380 dollars a month for the most basic implementation (not intended for production use). In the event that you already have an on-premise SQL Database environment, convincing anyone to switch to the cloud can be difficult.

**Recommendations to others considering Azure SQL Database:**

Azure SQL Database is simply too expensive for small applications that use their own databases. Like a ten-fold increase in price. If all of these kinds of applications were to implement their own Azure SQL Database, we would cease to develop these applications because we would no longer need them.

**What problems is Azure SQL Database solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Deploying across geographies in compliance with PaaS relational database solutions for various products. It is an ideal solution to ensure compliance with various regulations and laws because it is possible to host the database in various regions.

  ### 45. Expensive luxury database

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Azure SQL Database?**

The fact that it's in the cloud makes this a lot less maintenance than a regular on-premise SQL database. But the regular SQL-Database is already very low on maintenance, so it's not that much of an advantage. What I like best is that you can tag columns as sensitive, and apply very easy masking to fields like email.

**What do you dislike about Azure SQL Database?**

I think it's very expensive. If you own an on-premise license (which you can import into azure, luckily), it's cheaper to implement an on-premise database. A cloud database is not all positive either, you need extra security and VPN gateways and every single thing costs you money. Also, you geta few additional capabilities, but you lose the conveniency of a fully functioning SQL Management studio.

**Recommendations to others considering Azure SQL Database:**

Always check if you really need a relational database instead of (cheaper) non-relational databases like Cosmos DB.

**What problems is Azure SQL Database solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main benefit is reduced maintenance and integration. No need to monitor disk size for instance. Also, azure offers integration with all other "goodies" in azure, like functions, queus, apps etc. If you have a large application hosted in azure, then it is very convenient to use the azure SQL database as well. There are more (cheaper) data storage options in azure of course. But SQL Server has a few advantages over them: the fact that it's a relational database, the option of integration through your local SQL Data Management studio, (easy) masking capabilities, labeling columns as "sensitive". The main advantage for a business is speed, since all these options can be easily implemented and maintained.

  ### 46. It is same as any other database and have some new tools but it needs some improvement

The best thing about Azure SQL Database is that it supports a broad range of applications and workloads. It also has the provision to scale our database quickly. Also, the built-in availability of SLA, dynamic scaling, and automatic performance are extremely useful.

**What do you dislike about Azure SQL Database?**
