Team foundation server is a best tool to provide source code management and handling with great team collaboration features and it covers the entire application life cycle. Initially we have to download support packs and installers and that is the worst part while deployment of Team foundation server. As every now and then it failed to download and we have to start it from the scratch. Offline installer pack is also available and to install it we have to have hands on command prompt and run few power shell scripts. Rather than looping in the inexperience deployment vendor i should study and deploy the product by myself as it will save a lot of time, i think so the vendor that we opt for deployment have very limited expertise. It is a very comprehensive tool, but it has a very steep learning curve; a lot of time needs to be invested in training the entire team in using the tool. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

You can configure to a large degree the datapoints, organize tickets into iterations (or sprints or whatever you would like to call groups of tickets), there are lots of metadata capture points so that tickets can be organized and tracked. There is robust search functionality. You can assign tickets to various users, including have a dev owner, qa owner, etc. Users can create their own queries to track work and tickets.You can also receive notifications via email if a ticket is assigned to you, or a ticket to which you're assigned is edited. If two people are editing a ticket at the same time, this can cause issues, as you might spend 10 minutes entering or updating the information only to find out it has already been updated by someone else. Like SharePoint, Microsoft hasn't figure out a good way to allow for simultaneous editing of content.

In this case, you'd need to open the ticket in another window and manually copy and paste over information that might still need to be updated. Also, when entering data on a ticket, you can paste rich text, but there is no way to edit or clear rich text. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What I most dislike about team foundation server is that sometimes it takes too long to load.

The location of buttons isn't the most intuitive. There's also a fair bit of general functionality that's missing that you would expect from a version control tool. However it's widely accepted that TFS isn't the best version control system out there. For our project it satisfies what we do. For much larger projects you'd definitely need to investigate a bit. I always Like the tree structure TFS presents. Easy to label branch merge, When integrated with visual studio the best plugins are available. I see the visibility that a bitbucket or Git presents but i think TFS still would give them a run for their money. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
