MS has implemented a shipper tool to address this demanding service. If you want to create this component what you will have to do is search in the marketplace storage account. Storage account has 4 different pieces, the first one is Queue storage, you need to implement Queue worker you can use this tool and implement its messages with Javascript, python and .Net frameworks. The second one is tabular tables, if you need a table to store data without relations and integrity this tool will fit your demand. You can integrate it with API of your application so when user needs access, application generating SAS token with required access level and redirects users there. Token have limited lifetime, so when it expires it can`t be used to access BLOB Storage anymore. It can be used to keep files of SQL Server databases installed on Azure virtual machines, in this case speed of work with these files increases significantly and performance grows. You can manage your BLOBs directly from Azure portal, but you can also use Storage Explorer tool to make your work more smooth. You can keep your VHD files, backups, application files, source code and packeages and whatever you need. You can even put data files for your SQL Server databases and attach these to SQL Server running at Azure Virtual Machine, and it will give you significant increase of speed. Security options are great, you can grant and revoke access using powershell, you can even create tokens for temporary access, so you will not need to revoke access, when token expires. Virtual Network integration was added recently, so your storage can be accessed within VNET, without need to send traffic outside of your resource group. Different replication options can provide data resiliency on desired level without unneeded spend of funds. Different access methods could be useful in different cases. You can access your storage using PowerShell, Azure Portal, Storage Explorer tool by Microsoft and even SQL Server Management Studio. All BLOBs could be accessed directly from Azure Portal or using Azure Storage Explorer. Storage is very fast, much more fast than even SSD drives of your virtual machines. Actually these drives are also BLOBs, so you can move these betwenn machines simple detaching and attaching corresponding BLOBs. BLOB can be at hot and cold tiers, for operational and archive data respectively, so you can get even less costs of keeping unused historical data there.
